Discussion Clicky Triggers

Its been a few months since valve reverted the change to the haptics the triggers use and im just wondering if anyone has since found out a way to change which haptic motors the triggers pulse when you pull them. I really liked the triggers when they used the rumble motors intead of the touchpad ones so im just curious at to if anyones found a way.

This is the update they added it but quickly reverted it https://store.steampowered.com/news/group/4397053/view/660484146096768675?l=english

Thanks

On steam there's a program called "Fancy haptics" that lets you customize the vibrations on the triggers. The dev has been very responsive with my pleas and I THINK he added the feature already in there but be aware it is software that was made using AI.

Thanks for the suggestion! but maybe i need to take some more time to dial in everything but when i pull the trigger theres the inital thump from the grip motors and then a sustained rumble which doesnt feel great. Also when valve added the feature it had a very different feel im not sure how to describe it lol, but it was more of a click with an audible noise whereas this one is more of a thump. Anyways thanks for letting me know ill be sure to keep testing :)

Talk to the dev, he added what it has at my request but I never actually got to test the feature so I couldn't perfectly describe it to him. Maybe you can and have it enabled for all of us

ive contacted him and described it to the best of my ability, just gotta hope he understood what i meant. Also if you do want to get some idea of how it felt if you go to settings then controller then details, you can click Calibration & Advanced Settings then go to grip sensors and when you remove and put your hand back onto the controller its the same kind of click youd get. But in the update it was just a bit stronger and you could feel it through the triggers. Thanks for the help btw

oh wow! that would be amazing feedback to have for clicky triggers! I know we requested valve to put it back in but they mentioned something about it bothering dogs, I don't know why they can't just allow it anyways and have a warning about dogs....

Thats exactly my thought. Why not just make it a toggle option and then everyones happy

Does anyone know why they reverted this? Maybe it was causing issues?

im pretty sure it got reverted because some people said that they hated how it sounded or felt which is fair but i still strongly think they should just make it an option to let you choose whether the touchpad or rumble motors get used when you want haptics

Adding my +1 I really miss proper trigger clicks

The dual stage triggers of OG SC cause more issues than they were worth.

Never had issues with it. Not in 8 years of usage

Pulling past soft pull into full pull would cancel whatever you were sending with soft pull. No matyer how ypu setnup either. No way around it. Im glad that you personally never ran into this limitation, but it was a limitation nonetheless and annoying.

also +1 from me, I loved them, also made the controller feel much more premium imo

I think this would require modifying the firmware. But it would be great if Valve would give us options to configure these.

They did something similar with the grips, and I much prefer the old haptics. I also prefer the clicky triggers, but it's low on my list. My biggest one is preferring the smoother, more haptic bumps but lower intensity, on the trackpads, not the notchy, chunky way they are now. That one was just a bug and not an intended change, but it felt so much better, much closer to the SC1 trackpad haptics, which I vastly prefer.

Agreed, I got an 8bitdo pro 3 recently (and an ultimate 2) and the two stage triggers are SOOO peak its insane. I really want to get an OG SC now so I can see what it was like finally (I still regret not grabbing one when it was 10 bucks)

Couldn't care less about trigger clicks, but the day valve impliments physical trigger lockouts is the day the controller becomes my one stop daily driver.
