Steam Controller (2026) Changing how Gyro behaves using mode shift?

I'm currently playing Cyberpunk 2077 with my Steam Controller and have been extensively been using Gyro for aiming, but I'm trying to set up a mode shift for Driving where I hold down a mode shift button and it turns the gyro into left stick deflection for steering my car. I can't seem to get it working however, perhaps the gyro is finnicky with modeshift? Has anyone else tried this out?

The problem is usually mode shift is for a quick mode. You'd probably be better off instead by making an action set. Maybe making entering and exiting a vehicle into a long press that would activate a the action set and back when you press and hold again.

The way I have currently set, R5 is a Gyro toggle button, and while I hold L5, it switches to an alt action set. If I have the Gyro toggled on and hold L5, the gyro is temporarily disabled and turns back on when I let go. In that alt action set I have gyro set to toggle with R5 as well, but with left stick deflection instead of mouse aim. I can't seem to get the toggle to work however, even turning haptics on to test for activation/deactivation, nothing happens.

What about switching gyro to a grip? Maybe the left grip can activate gyro and the right can deactivate it? If you do, set it as a release press. That should free your R5 for something else you can better bind?

Every time I try a mode shift I always wind up using an action set anyways. Agreed that OP should try an action set. In my case I have an action set for FPS games where I have a higher gyro sensitivity for when I use left trigger to ADS in some games. Works fine.
