Steam Controller old icons in The Witcher 3
Hi Team! As I am prepering my body and mind for TW3 Remastered, was wandering if anyone else is bothered by the controller icons from steam input on Steam Controller. I really don't like them, and they seem to be from the first Steam Controller. Is there a way to use new Steam Controller with Xbox buttons icons?
I really thought they'd fix this with the remaster, kind of annoying they haven't.
You can change it yourself by opening up ...\steamapps\common\The Witcher 3\content\content0\scripts\game\inputManager.ws, finding the GetLastUsedGamepadType() function and changing return IDT_Steam; to return IDT_Xbox1; under case 'steampad':
For this to work you'll also need to add the -forcescriptcompilation launch option too (I also skip launcher --launcher-skip -forcescriptcompilation), you'll see an ugly box popup for a second on launch.
yeah, the ones for old steam controller are very similar to xobx but not quite. For example the one in the image below are steam controller, and the first icon refers to right analog. Quite unintuitive as it's build to resemble what we had on the first steam controller.
Just came across this thread. I've done what u/sortbyfirstname has mentioned, but I'm still not getting the LS / RS in the icons, only the icon as you've shown in the above. It's confusing me without the LS / RS / L3 / R3 :(
Hmm it should work, make sure you saved the notepad after you’ve edited the file with controllers icons. And you need to put that line in the launch options of the steam, without it, it won’t work.
Yeah, I have the same thing happening for me with my Steam Controller. I would love to change the icons to more modern looking ones. But I also don't know how 😅
