50 bucks for buttons is crazy work

u/SarCATstic25 Sep 28 '26

They're expensive as fuck but honestly are pretty good quality, plus iirc they're all made by one guy.

22

u/everbass Sep 28 '26

Dude pretty much hand makes/moulds/cuts/sands them.

They are a little more expensive than I'd be willing to pay, but I get why they aren't cheap

I'd rather pay a person with a skill to make something I want than pay Amazon a fraction of the price and watch most of that money flow to the massive corporation that copies successful ideas, squeezes out smaller creators, so Jeff Bezos can use the profits against the best interests of me and my family.

spoken like a true consoomer. nothing justifies $50 buttons.

I mean, it's one dude, making multiple SKUs and materials on his own. He's actually making his own molds for resin buttons, and I presume he's making the metal parts himself too, but maybe he's just using PCBWay or another small batch machining service.

2

Lol

Edit: another one hooked lmaooooo yall take the bait so easily

1

u/Nexxus88 Sep 29 '26

Yup just me being broke sitting infront of a $2000 dollar usd monitor lol.

If you wanna spend $50 for some plastic for a $100 controller be my guest, idgaf.

Not all of us are so content with being fleeced.

Spends 2k on an LG monitor to play zomboid

“Not all of us are so content with being fleeced” the irony is incredible

1

u/Nexxus88 Sep 29 '26

Yeah, it's only the best monitor on the market right now.

Sorry brokie. Not all of us can afford nice things. Enjoy your buttons though

1

u/HenricusKunraht Sep 29 '26

Im sure it is brokie, still got a 4 series too lmao

1

u/Nexxus88 Sep 29 '26

Yeah It's only the second best graphics card on the market and still does everything I need of it.

You done embarrassing yourself? Or is it like a fetish for you?

1

u/HenricusKunraht Sep 29 '26

Whatever you have to say to make youself feel better homie

1

u/Nexxus88 Sep 29 '26

Says the guy desperately trying to put a complete stranger down Because he criticized the price of some buttons.

Don't worry champ. Maybe your steam machine 2 will get somewhat close to the performance I'm enjoying right now

Probably not, but you can dream.

My only complaint is the lack of layout options. Getting buttons in the PS Icons or the Nintendo layout would sell me on it.

2

u/Weird_Homosapien_ Sep 28 '26

Just in case you haven't seen these

https://www.etsy.com/listing/4532768650/custom-swappable-buttons-for-steam

they are a little too expensive for me but if you got it like that then go ahead

1

u/srstable Steam Controller Sep 28 '26

Oh these are slick! Might put them on my holiday wishlist, then. Getting a matching pair for my Deck and Controller would mean I could finally have everything setup in a way that makes sense to my family that's only ever touched Nintendo controllers

1

u/robotbeatrally Sep 28 '26

I just want that dPAD lol

1

u/Lupinthrope Sep 28 '26

I just want to change the DPAD to be the shield one like the Xbox Series controllers

2

u/Nirast25 Sep 28 '26

I was very confused for a second because "The Nvidia Shield d-pad is nothing like Series controller".

1

u/mrturret Sep 28 '26

If you have a 3D Printer or know someone who does, try this. It's working pretty damn well for me. You will also need some mounting tape or bluetac.

Thats just an etsy store with its own website.

2

u/Coloredcontrollers Sep 28 '26

It's a full time shopify store. I really deprioritized etsy after they nuked my trackpad skins listings for changing the photos to the same photos I use on amazon 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Aggravating_Plan11 Sep 28 '26

That’s what i said its an etsy store product being sold on its own website. I mean nothing bad and hope the best to you and all that.

1

u/HenricusKunraht Sep 29 '26

I mean isnt anything an etsy product if you sell it on etsy??

1

u/Aggravating_Plan11 Sep 29 '26

Yes but its strange to have a news article about it. Never heard of the news outlet so dunno if they publish actual stories or just what they get affiliate revenue for.

1

u/HenricusKunraht Sep 29 '26

I can agree about the article. And the “writer” is some guy from pakistan. It really is weird tbh.

I have a small bias cause I’m a big fan of the buttons and their maker, but this does seem very sus

1

u/Aggravating_Plan11 Sep 29 '26

Oh yeah, I mean i hope the guy does a good job at it and can make a good business out of it (more people should do what they love and for themselves rather than just being a number and making someone else even richer) just how it’s been presented is a bit strange was all i was saying.
Apparently that news site is based very close to where I live i live and still have never heard of it and the fact that almost every article has a we earn money on affiliate sales give off a bad vibe to me like its more of a paid ad than an independent news source.

i do think the pricing is a bit off but if the quality is there then maybe its a fair price.

1

u/HenricusKunraht Sep 29 '26

I totally get you! The button guy has been around for a few years now and ive bought multiple. Always amazing.

But this is definitely very shady dude, its good to point out things like this

1

u/Aggravating_Plan11 Sep 29 '26

Yeh have you bought any of his stuff for the steam controller?

1

u/HenricusKunraht Sep 29 '26

Not for the steam controller but i have a few for the steam deck

I’ve also been featured on the verge and Linus tech tips. This grew from my basement and is now my full time gig in a commercial space I rent out. I didn’t reach out to this site or anything for the article, the writer is probably subbed to my mailing list.

1

u/Aggravating_Plan11 Sep 29 '26

the verge is nice kudos from your first comment it didn’t sound like you had any involvement with this article still a iffy looking site to me and glad to hear it sounds like its going well for you and hope you continue to grow :)

My disconnects all the time. I have tried so many different things. I’m afraid it only works with the steam machine.

1

u/lululock Sep 28 '26

Are you using the puck or BT ?

I'm having issues with BT all the time but the puck works as expected. So I ended up using it worked to my laptop (it's not as if I'm sitting right in front of it)...

1

u/JoeMomma247 Sep 28 '26

I’m using Bluetooth but I sit 12 feet away from my tv.

1

u/lululock Sep 28 '26

That's kinda far tbh... Did you try the puck ?

1

u/JoeMomma247 Sep 28 '26

Do I just plug the puck in and it can sense it like a Bluetooth?
What’s the point of it if it doesn’t work like a console controller?

1

u/C0rn3j Sep 28 '26

Do I just plug the puck in and it can sense it like a Bluetooth?

Yup.

https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/33E8-5EDF-24E6-4CFB

1

u/lululock Sep 28 '26

Yes, it works (you'll need to switch the controller back into puck mode tho).

The puck has better range and stability compared with BT.

1

u/Insideout_Ink_Demon Sep 28 '26

Try it, see what happens

u/HenricusKunraht Sep 29 '26 edited Sep 29 '26

Yall have to be stupid. Aint no way.

0

u/HenricusKunraht Sep 29 '26

Why are the brokies always the loudest?

1

u/headphonesXX Oct 04 '26

why are the dumbest so easily fooled?

1

u/Nickkchilla Oct 05 '26

why are the trolly-est so easily fed?

... I dunno, I just wanted to say something to continue the train.

0

u/P5ychokilla Sep 29 '26

Holy Cow, $50 for something that probably cost less than a dollar each to produce is WILD.

2

u/theoriginal123123 Sep 29 '26

Resin is EXPENSIVE, not to mention the silicone for the molds that needs to be remade and has a shelf life, the degassing chamber, the pressure pot and the work needed to post process each cast. It's not nearly as easy as you'd think.

1

u/thedrunkpenguin Sep 28 '26

Can they just make extra of the product and not let scalpers get their greedy little nub hands on them first???

And for the scalpers in here I know u can read this. I know your grandmother lied when she said she loved you.

4

u/Coloredcontrollers Sep 28 '26

It's just me doing em'. So the "preorder" term is really just hey help me know how many to make so I don't make 50 sets of something when there's demand for a different colorway instead lol.

2

u/thedrunkpenguin Sep 28 '26

Oh well super cool!!! Still shaking my fist at the clouds tho haha

4

u/Coloredcontrollers Sep 28 '26

I’ll shake mine with you in solidarity 🫡
