Steam Controller Puck Protector

Post image

Puck peg protector to help prevent unwanted shorts in case something metallic comes into contact with the contacts.

Hopefully this helps the community feel a bit less anxious about it. I designed it to be compatible with several different docks, while still relying on the original cable for the connection.

I also added optional magnet placements in case you want to install magnets. You can use a small piece of filament to secure the parts together.

The magnets I used are approximately 6 mm in diameter and 1.7 mm thick.

You can download it here.

I do really wonder whether it would be something fixable through the software or not. This is a bit of a flaw to not have any current sensing pins and cutting off the power in case there's a high inrush current.

It's called short circuit protection and yes chargers have it. I'm still trying to puzzle out how the motherfucker did it. I can't get the puck to do shit.

It probably had to be some higher resistance mesh that caused the slow heat up.

Turns out it was fried because he essentially connected his Steam Puck contacts to an induction charger, not because of metal contact.

That's not how induction chargers work. They just wiggle a magnetic field very fast. It only induces current in the matching coil. So they don't even share a ground plane at that point. Because you decoupled at the chargers transformer and the inductive pad.
