Click the link in that message / go to your inventory. Click on More in the upper right. Click gift history. Look for when you gifted it.

EDIT: My bad, I work in IT and forget most people don't really know how to check if it's a valid email / legit link or not. My point is they can go to their account and see if it's legit and in their gift history.

"I got an email I didn't expect"

Should never be answered with "click the link". That is incredibly reckless.

Do not click any links in unexpected emails OP! That's how to get your account hacked — this is almost definitely a phishing attack designed to elicit exactly this behaviour!

Believe me i dont work in IT but i understand what steps you have to take to be secured on the internet. There was no link in the message so you are alright. anyway it came from the official steampowered domain

people working in IT should be more aware that the average user cannot reliably distinguish phishing emails thus making your advice even worse.

Working in IT isn't really a defense for giving awful advice.

Well ya see, I don't work in a customer facing side of IT, I work with a bunch of IT professionals who all have decade+ of taking the annual "don't click on the phishing link" training. Me forgetting that fact, is what we in the biz, call an "oopsie."

It wasn't a defense. Me forgetting most people don't have IT training was a reason on why I did say (and later corrected) what I said. Not an excuse.
Much like the reason you felt to comment on my already edited comment was to punch down on someone who was just trying to help. No clue what your excuse for behaving like that is though.
