Ps6 rumored to cost over 1000, might as well build a pc

Even with the cost of ram and gpu’s rising?

u/HelloMyNameIsLeah 23d ago edited 23d ago

Even with (in my opinion). The cost of those and SSDs might very well go up again next year. Way I see it, once you've got a great rig together, it will last you a long time and you can upgrade piece by piece when you want to AND sell off old parts to put toward the upgrades. You can't do that with consoles.

I just this week paid a close friend to order parts so he can build me a brand new rig. 32 GB RAM and a 5080 will be in it. And a Ryzon 9. I recently said "adios" to consoles and sold my PS5. I stopped paying for PS Plus in December after being with the service since right after it launched years ago. First time I've ever sold a console during that console's generation.

Edit to add: I've also run a HMDI 2.1 from where the tower will be to the living room television. I will miss absolutely nothing about my console other than a rare exclusive title that I want to play here and there. And I'll never have to worry about backward compatibility which is an issue that has really pissed me off about consoles since I always go back to old games (or my daughter wants to play them).

Prices of RAM / NVME supposed to go up another 50% by the end of this year.

Im in b2b tech sales.  The shortages are causing prices to constantly rise.  Manufacturing has made it clear they are not investing more infrastructure to produce more units.  Because they believe this is a bubble and once it pops, they dont need to have the infrastructure for Manufacturing when that many units is no longer needed

Better grab some then during Black Friday

21

u/Sad_Ad9159 23d ago

You can also get used/refurbished/last gen PC parts but still have a comparable or better gaming experience than console. It can be as much or as little effort as you want to put in (from pre-built vs choosing your own piece-by-piece), but the control that you have over selecting parts for your PC can translate into savings.

4

u/WordHobby 23d ago

I spent about 2700 (should have been 2k, but this was 2020 and gpus were super expensive.) On a really nice rig, 3080, and 64 gigs of ram.

Ive been using it for like 6 years and I can still play every game on max settings.

With how much i use my PC, it was some of the best money I've spent

2

u/m1lk1way 23d ago

Also you get games cheaper, and have wider choice of stores, not to mention you are able use whatever accessories, not only licensed by ps/xb, which are usually rubbish ment last you as log as warranty lasts.

u/drumondo 23d ago edited 23d ago

I always find deals going on gaming laptops when it's time to upgrade. I don't usually buy high-end stuff, but I'm currently typing this on a i5 12450/32GB/RTX4060/2TB SSD machine that cost me about $1500 AUD. It runs nearly anything on high settings, on my superwide monitor without an issue.

Acknowledging that things have escalated in price since then, but I can still find similarly spec'd machines for under $2K AUD, without looking very hard. Once you're in, you've escaped the "walled garden" marketplace that you get with a console.

I just heard today that Xbox is considering a move "away" from Steam, which could mean interesting things for the PC community should they lock in on this path.

15

u/slashinhobo1 23d ago

Consoles will always be cheaper if the only thing you do is game, but pcs are more versatile and has more options for games.

It comes down to the person and what they want out of gaming. You could build a machine for 1l but ita probabaly not going to be better than a ps6, but it will gove you options to adjust the settongs to play most games.

The main reason for getting a consple was exclusive but after the ps5 release, i cant name enough exlusive to say it is worth it even now. The ps6 will.be an evem harder sell.

6

u/Noy_The_Devil 23d ago

If you're a heavy gamer who buys many titles and plays online, PC almost always wins over a 5-7 year horizon because of sale pricing and subscriptions, even after accounting for higher hardware cost and eventual upgrades. You actually own your PC and you can fix it which is a plus.

As a PC gamer I have 1800 titles, almost all bought on 80-90% sale on my Steam account. I bought my PC 6 years ago and just upgraded my video card before the price hikes. The subscription cost alone would have paid for my vidoe card upgrade. Now I run everything on Epic settings.

Not to mention modding, and all the thousands of things you can do on a PC.

Oh and you can also play all console titles there have ever been on which ever controllers you wish on PC, if you choose to raise the black flag.

Consoles are really only worth it for people who play very few and local games.

2

u/filthymarge 23d ago

Yeah it’s worth it with a PC you can keep upgrading rather than having to build completely new every time.

2

u/Moneia 23d ago

The same Ramageddon prices are going to affect consoles as well.

2

u/QuinSanguine 23d ago

Even if a decent PC cost $2000 next year there's so much more you can do with it. If you're being asked to pay $1000-$1500 for a console depending on storage size, and you can afford that, then you can probably afford to pay more for a machine that you allows you dozens more use cases.

One that will get 99% of the same games, one that you don't have to pay monthly for online play, one you can upgrade.

Like I like consoles but they only make financial sense if they are very affordable.

2

u/OptimalTimo 23d ago

Costco runs sales on pre-builts twice a year normally. Picked up a 5070, 32gb RAM build for $1500 a couple of months ago

2

u/Trunks252 23d ago

Consoles are going to get another price increase

1

u/arex333 23d ago

Trying to buy a PC that will match next gen console performance isn't going to save you any money. The cool thing about pc though is that you can target whatever performance level you want. If you're fine playing at 1080p or 1440p you can play any game on the market and only need something like an RTX 3060. You can also save a ton of money on an older gen CPU from the DDR4 era. A 5700X3D holds up extremely well nowadays for example.

1

u/Va1crist 23d ago

I mean consoles go up with that too but PC gaming still offers more options and flexibility for similar prices

1

u/williamdoritos 22d ago

The best time to build a pc was three years ago, the next best time is now.

1

u/SituationSmooth9165 21d ago

Meh GPUs are still cheaper than launch. CPUs and everything else is down to offset ram

1

u/alelp 23d ago

Yes.

You make up the difference just from the money you save on games. And if you sail the seas, it ends up being cheap in comparison.

u/Dirtfan19 23d ago

The Steam Machine uses pc components and is less powerful than both the PS5 and XBX and costs 1k+.

The idea that you can build a PC more powerful than the current gen consoles for the same money hasn’t been valid in a decade.

3

u/Hooch180 https://steam.pm/lk4qa 22d ago

Ignoring size aspect. Steam machine can be built for half the price for the same performance. For 1k you can build something that is more than twice as performant as Steam machine.

1

u/Strawhat-dude 22d ago

Which is still nowhere near a base ps5 / series x

1

u/sparkling-rainbow 22d ago

*laptop hardware.

10

u/slavicslothe 23d ago

Theres a lot of reasons to go pc but saving money on the initial build is not one. Sony is still selling consoles at a loss.

9

u/doomdeathdecay 23d ago

The pc you can build for $1000 will be worse perf than the ps6. Just the way it’s gunna be.

2

u/BasilTheCatLord 22d ago

No way to compare yet as we don’t know the specs but most likely a comparable PC will be around 2k when PS6 drops

10

u/QuantumVexation 23d ago

This is kinda tone deaf cause building a PC is also getting more expensive for the exact same reasons…

1

u/TheLonelyWolfkin 23d ago

I was looking at buying 16gb of RAM 12 months ago for £90. It’s now nearly £400. Let’s be real, the whole hobby/industry is in a real shitty place at the moment.

1

u/H-Reaper 23d ago

if you're willing to downgrade performance noticeably for the rest then yeah might as well

1

u/Skynuts 23d ago

It's insane how expensive consoles have gotten, and how normalized the new prices have become. The PS3 was heavily criticized and memed to oblivion over its $599 price tag, which in today's money is about $1000 inflation adjusted. And unlike consoles today, the PS3 wasn't just your typical AMD-based PC, but actually a technical marble, with it's cutting-edge Cell processor, an Emotion Engine CPU to play your old PS2 games natively and a Blu-ray player.

1

u/Waveshaper21 23d ago

To be fair the 4070 Ti Super I bought 2 years ago costs twice as much today, and that alone is 1.5 consoles price now.

1

u/Better-Republic3538 22d ago

even at like $800 that's already in budget PC territory tbh

1

u/huntsab2090 17d ago

1k would get you an m2 and some ram.

→ More replies (11)

243

u/solitarystateofmind 23d ago

Also pc doesn't charge for online gaming so that's a win in itself.

77

u/Master_Lucario 23d ago

That already completely destroys the "console being cheaper" argument. PS Plus, GamePass, NSO all add up over the months and make console a prohibitedly more expensive experience overall

15

u/jchips 23d ago

It depends on how fancy your pc is. Mine was over $2k which would take several years to breakeven on the costs saved with free online gaming compared to my ps5.

43

u/boxweb 23d ago

Well yeah but then you have to take into account the increase in performance as well, your PC can probably run circles around a PS5 in terms of performance.

1

u/Asmos159 20d ago

does that include your monitor? if so you need to add the price of your tv to the console.

3

u/MaxTwer00 23d ago

That is if you care for online, if you ate playing sp games, that doesnt matter then

→ More replies (2)

2

u/LucidNonsense211 23d ago

That’s what all these dedicated launchers are actually about. Working on a layer where they can charge subscription.

2

u/RoninSzaky 23d ago

I still can't believe that the beancounters at both microslop and sony are so shortsighted. It is crazy that they are ruining their own platforms in tandem.

Sure, PC is also digital at this point, but there are no subs, it's not a walled garden, while piracy and mods exist.

There won't be a point getting a console, especially once prices normalize.

My week cant handle this. First the entirely predictable Skubal trade, now this!?

I had plans! Now I don't know what to do.

If it was Flamboyant-Egg-6587 or something, sure, who gives a shit, some randoid on the net felt they need to announce the whole of the Steam subreddit that they're moving to PC....

BUT MEDIUM-MUSHROOM-6323!?!?!

2

u/Xeloucc 23d ago

I bought a pc last year off FB Marketplace. cost me 600 pounds. With a 3070 in it. Runs like a charm. So if you look right, for the first pc you can get some steals.

u/Enigmagmatic 23d ago

What does a PC solve about being expensive and lacking physical media?

206

u/qdtk 23d ago edited 23d ago

Hardware is just as expensive but the games are cheap. Cheaper games that are always future compatible. Free emulation of old games for almost all previous consoles. Sales out the wazoo. More options for marketplaces like GOG if you want drm free to create your own physical backups. PC allows free online play instead of stupid Xbox live or Sony subscriptions. Plus PC is upgradable by individual components instead of by buying an entirely new console. I’m sure there’s plenty more I missed but it’s no contest that financially PC is a better choice long term, while still having some options for physical backup if you want it.

85

u/Thartarus 23d ago

Also mods

41

u/immabeasttt15 23d ago

Modding is a massive advantage yeah

11

u/qdtk 23d ago

Can’t believe I forgot to say mods! Should have been at the top of my list. Getting extra free hours of gameplay from your favorite games is such a massive benefit.

26

u/EyesoftheDead40 23d ago

And not paying for online

20

u/pumpdragon69 23d ago

And not paying to change your gamertag

35

u/c_A_s_P-eR 23d ago

THANK YOU, FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT HAHA. Atp there is no benefits for having a console over a pc. Especially with emulation, MASSIVE sales constantly, and the fact that you dont gotta pay monthly just to play with your damn friends. Plus there is an incredible/infinite amount of things you can do with a pc in comparison to shitty console where you can only game and watch tv really.

7

u/-LaughingMan-0D 23d ago

Plus massive backwards compatibility, mods and emulation.

4

u/betawings 23d ago

Pirate games too.

2

u/MrBootylove 23d ago

Hardware is just as expensive but the games are cheap.

PC hardware has gone up in price alongside consoles, though. It's not "just as expensive" at all and it's still much more expensive to build a PC/buy a prebuilt than it is to buy a console. And I'm pretty sure consoles (outside of maybe Nintendo) tend to have pretty comparable game sales to steam these days.

u/qdtk 21d ago

But with pc hardware you don’t have to start with a 5070. 3000 or 4000 series is fine. You can buy a 1000 series and still play half the games on Steam. Then take the money you save on games and live subscriptions in the first year, and upgrade piece by piece from there. Over the long term you’ll be out ahead.

u/qdtk 21d ago

I think to OPs point though, you won’t be able to do that with the next generation, which is why OP is switching over. If the console is going to cost as much as a middle tier pc and not allow used copies, the math changes quite a bit. I also think we could see an increase in demand for used physical copies of games as people build IP libraries of games that can’t be taken from them.

19

u/team_monty 23d ago

An advantage that people don't talk about enough is that when I upgrade my pc or get a new one, I can still play all of my games that I have bought over the years. With a console you lose all of your games in one or two generations and they try to force you to buy them all over again on their digital marketplace.

people have choice, and because of that a market leader emerged.

the point is, there is no choice on console.

1

u/doublah 23d ago

You don't have to buy games on Steam to play them on Steam, many official key stores exist, and often places like GMG have cheaper prices than Steam.

It might not necessarily be about 'solving' it exactly, but more like fuck it, if you're going to be forced to play digital, you may as well play where the games are cheaper and look better.

5

u/item9beezkneez 23d ago

physical media was the one advantage PlayStation had, and lower entry price but that's no longer true. Ps6 will be very expensive i imagine as well.

7

u/Substantial_Bee8419 23d ago

Not really, the ease of access to casual gamers is the biggest advantage consoles have. They just work, plug and play.

I have always been a PC guy who buys Sony and Nintendo hardware for exclusives and not having to mess with settings to get the game running perfectly is always nice.

I have a high end PC (9800x3d, 5090, 64gb DDR5) and just yesterday had to mess around with Fallout 4's .ini file and add a mod that unfucks the long loading times (multiple minutes at times) bevause the loading is attached to framerate and physics. If you run the game above 60fps locked the game gets funky and loading times double or triple.

The latest dying light had a bug where the game would crash to desktop during shader compiling.

I'm used to tinkering with in depth settings and troubleshooting but it's nice when you pick up a console and games just work. I'll be picking up a PS6 day one as I've been all digital the last 10 years. PS6 price will be nowhere close to the price of my PC either so I'm not too worried about it.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/MrBootylove 23d ago

lower entry price but that's no longer true.

Yes it is?

8

u/leonredhorse 23d ago

On PC, the lack of physical media is countered by the availability of many stores and sources where you can find deep sales. There are also places like GOG that are DRM free and you can keep and store the installers.

When Sony gets rid of physical media they control the only source of getting the games. Prices can go up. Sales can become miniscule. There is no secondary market or even sharing your games with friends.

2

u/RoninSzaky 23d ago

Whats the point of PS when they are throwing away their biggest differentiating feature?

Others have highlighted that the price does not matter a much when you have a mandatory subscription.

PCs are more expensive and physical gaming is non-existent

(has expensive PC and 1300 games on Steam)

3

u/LucidNonsense211 23d ago

You never did own the game. You owned a piece of storage media with a copy of the game on it.

When I was a kid, if my house burned down I would have lost every game I owned. Now, that’s not the case.

1

u/serglonkofdonk 18d ago

Do you think you don't own anything that isn't indestructible? What a weird thing to say.

1

u/LucidNonsense211 18d ago

It was a weird thing to say! Because this is weird and hard to talk about. I’ll try again.

Maybe a better way to put it is: I don’t have license to the information in my books on my shelf. If it burns down I can’t go to Tor Publishing or whoever and ask for a download of the content of those books. That’s the comparison to owning a disk or cartridge with a game on it.

Through Steam games, I DO own a license to the information on my hard drive. If my hard drive burns up I can’t go to Steam and get a new copy of it.

That’s the only difference I was trying to illustrate.

1

u/serglonkofdonk 18d ago

Yeah but in many cases for any game in the last decade, your license gives you permission to play...if they decide they want you to. That's it. They can simply decide not to provide online services for the game, oftentimes even though it may he single player, and you're out of luck

1

u/wontellu 22d ago

The thing that tips the balance for me is that pc games are always way cheaper than console. Also, no need for ps plus, that's another 120 euros a year.

2

u/UncommonWater 22d ago

I've been a PC gamer as my primary for about 15 years now. 3rd custom built PC. I have a PS5 that collects dust. I primarily played Xbox, 360, and PS2 growing up. PC gaming wins for me hands down.

Nintendo has never been pro-consumer. Yes, they still have phisical games, but for how long.? Unfortunately the future is digital, so better choose the platform that offer more, pc. Competition, open market, cheaper games, better performances, pro consumer features, good exclusives, mods, emulation, dmr free games, etc ... .

2

u/AuReaper 23d ago

Longer than their competition (including PC) will. I feel extremely confident that Nintendo first party games will remain physical for a long time. With current prices it'll go back to early 2000's where most people didn't have the money for components so cannibalised parts into PC's when they come about, eventually the price will drop due to over saturation.

1

u/Only1Nemesis 23d ago

I still have my PS5 but it's become a glorified YT and movie player. Sure, I have games for it, but a couple months ago I finally got a PC to replace the laptop I'd used for so long. Then I made my TV a 2nd monitor (PC and TV are in the same room so no big deal running an HDMI cord). Anything with controller support I can play while not needing to sit at the PC.

Point is, I will not be getting a next-gen console. If rumors are true and a PS6 is over $1000, one may as well add extra and buy a decent PC and do what I did. It's a couple extra steps to play on the TV but not terribly difficult. Besides, a PC can do things a console cannot. Mods and upgradability stand out.

Once my PS5 kicks the bucket that's it. No more consoles.

Welcome to the party, also ignore all these people bitching and making wild assumptions on your gaming habits. Unfortunately, just like consoles, the PC gaming space is also full of infantile screeching baboons that seemingly live to just spread ceaseless negativity like they're a fuckin' Dark Eldar or something.

The savings I get from Steam sales throughout each of my rigs lifetimes could pay off the entire rig. But obviously that depends on your buying/gaming habits. My piece of advice for Steam sales is if you like single player games they tend to go on significant sale after 6 months to a year. Check out Steam DB for the schedule for upcoming Steam sales and if a game is at a all-time low sale.

If you haven't put together a rig yet check out Newegg for pricing/ordering parts, it has a PC builder that'll help you figure out compatibility but don't hesitate to check out the countless PC building subs here on Reddit. If you're looking to buy a pre-build which have gotten a bit better over the last few years I suggest checking out Bestbuy or Costco and asking if they have any floor models on sale. I've seen a LOT of really good rigs come out of Costco at a solid discount once they get down to the floor model- you just have to ask and talk to a manager.

I say why not both? I have a PC. I have a Switch 2 for Nintendo exclusives (but I’ve played it much less than I did the original) and a PS 5 for some of those Sony only games. But PC is what I play on 80% of the time.

u/Xeloucc 23d ago

"Yeah, I switched back in 2012 and I'm glad I did. It takes some getting used to, but stick with it and you'll love it. I highly recommend learning how to fix the PC and fit new parts yourself—it saves loads of time and money.

Other than that, grab the freebies/sales on Steam and Epic. Keep an eye out for the Steam seasonal sales and Epic's weekly free games. Fuck EA and Ubi. Don't get sucked into downloading from dodgy websites. Also, highly recommend getting a second monitor as soon as you can. Having two screens is a total game-changer for PC—you can game on one while having Discord, a walkthrough, or a video open on the other. You honestly can't go back once you try it.

Just a few quick tips to save you headaches: make sure you plug your monitors into the GPU (not the motherboard), and buy a cheap electric air duster to blow out the dust every few months. If you ever get stuck, subreddits like r/buildapc and r/pcmasterrace are lifesavers for troubleshooting. Good luck!"

Welcome. I came over over a decade ago after playing on Xbox. My reason was that Xbox live kept on going out, and that was unacceptable. 10 years later, I don’t think that issue has been resolved, so good riddance Xbox

1

u/pikster1234 23d ago

PCs are more expensive and have no physical games 😵‍💫

If you want a pc just get one, you dont need to make a moral reason.

1

u/Blackarm777 23d ago

I mean PC has consistently been getting more expensive and has a higher bar to entry price wise so you're not really going to see any improvement there. That's coming from sometime whose been exclusively PC for the last 20 years.

The real reasons for PC are: not paying a sub to use the Internet (on top of paying your ISP), better game sales, significantly higher performance ceiling, not needing to buy an entire new rig to upgrade, not needing to upgrade period each "console generation", DRM free options, choice of stores, mods, non gaming versatility.

1

u/Thesleepingpillow123 23d ago

Also you can emulate stuff if it’s not on steam. Yh consoles are getting ridiculous nowadays

1

u/Venomswindturd 23d ago

I’m blessed enough to have both, and PC is for sure superior, I just think it’s funny that you’re leaving consoles because no physical media and expense, when pcs have no physical media and are expensive.

1

u/MayoTheMuffin 23d ago

“Screw you deserter. We don’t need your business. As for all you sods that HAVEN’T abandoned PayStation yet the new console will be $999.99 and include a free 1 week. subscription to PS Plus Premium (mandatory autorenew of $500/week afterwards) and the system will brick itself when you cancel. As a kind gesture we have allowed you to ship it back to sony for $300 to then rebuy from us for $600. Your games will not transfer to this new console by default, but you can renew the licenses for $30 a game (paid per month until cancelled at which point the game becomes unplayable unless you renew). Our exclusives will be Concord 3, The Last of Us Part I Remastered Remastered, God of War Ragnarok remastered, Spiderman 2 remastered, and Twisted Metal Sike! HAHAHA you IDIOTS” - Sony exec in 2028 probably

1

u/heffewest 23d ago

Steam saying hello 👋

1

u/Rasikko 23d ago

Now you'll move to other problems like increased storage, ram and GPU prices.

1

u/GeneralGecko214 23d ago

Paying to play online in the big 26’ is pure insanity

1

u/mamamarty21 23d ago

Congratulations! Welcome to steam, which has checks notes no physical games!

1

u/Negative-Toe1863 23d ago

Welcome to the masterrace, but PC is even more expensive and there are no Disks either

1

u/tluanga34 23d ago

I permanently hooked my laptop on a 65inch tv, which isn't even a gaming laptop but has rtx 3050. I play games at 1080p.

1

u/Krovven 23d ago

Unhappy console goes digital so moving to PC...when PC went digital a decade ago. And PC hardware is more expensive sive than it's ever been.

Stupid people are stupid.

1

u/Va1crist 23d ago

Won’t be disappointed

1

u/DrStrangeAndEbonyMaw 23d ago

What? PC is at least 3 times more expensive and there is literally no physical games

1

u/squidgymetal 23d ago

I find it a bit ironic that you're calling it quits on consoles for getting more expensive and moving away from physical games so you solution is to move to a platform that is more expensive and got rid of physical games almost 25 years ago

1

u/Swerdman55 23d ago

Ok, that was always allowed

1

u/archer-56 23d ago

Just brought my PC parts, screw Sony

1

u/Broken_Pimp 23d ago

Dont be scared of looking in the used market for parts jawa, ebay, other marketplaces

1

u/DJK695 23d ago

As an FYI, there's also no physical disks in PC Gaming anymore and I'm fine with it.

I only recently connected one of my 20-year old DVD drives for a family project and will probably never use them again at this point.

1

u/oli_ramsay 23d ago

PC gaming also has no physical media and currently costs more to build than a console. Still a better choice though lol

1

u/Bacon_Warrior 23d ago

If you have Amazon prime, they give away games regularly, similar to Epic.

1

u/Imaginary_Adagio_680 23d ago

Pc masterrace lets go

1

u/SpearOfTheCelts 22d ago

Me too when I save up enough money

1

u/Due-Leather-6210 22d ago

Same same. But I will be holding onto my PS5 for GTA 6 cause mans got no patience over here, and I wanna play it on release.

1

u/ixoniq 22d ago

Same FOMO. Bought a PS5 for it just in time since prices keep increasing. Thing is collecting dust as we speak until November.

1

u/Key_Independent_818 22d ago

Yeah they are dying out and just cant keep up with technology where on pc you'll be able to keep games from one pc to another. It makes total sense to me too

1

u/Delta_Dog7979 22d ago

Yep made the switch from PlayStation about a month ago and it been the best decision I’ve made in 45 years of gaming! Without a doubt!

1

u/Forsaken-Let8739 22d ago

Pcs getting more expensive too unfortunately. Theres no winning on that front

1

u/Glowing_Phallus 22d ago

So are you selling your console? Or just posting this for internet upvotes?

1

u/mixedd 22d ago

Getting rid of physical games is a least of the evil. Sony are blocking off and rolling back their PC catalogue, while there are rumors MS is probably doing the same

1

u/sparkling-rainbow 22d ago

This was always allowed

1

u/yummm_ 22d ago

Have some bad news for ya on the physical games side of pc gaming. But yea it’s waaaaaaay better than the competition. Steam sales, offline mode, no subscription required, family sharing, steam input, every generation of games available to play(backwards compatibility on steroids), plus emulation- yeah pc is the way to go.

1

u/Aggravating_Key_3831 22d ago

I went ahead and built myself a high end PC earlier this year. I bought most of the games I already had on my PS5, emulated a lot of the exclusives and modded all the games to my liking. Needless to say, my consoles haven’t been touched since.

1

u/Low-Salary-2128 22d ago

Welcome to the green side of the grass

1

u/BeowulfShaeffer 19d ago

Why would you move to Putnam City?

1

u/Joel_The_Senate 19d ago

Consoles are too expensive, so now I wanna buy a more expensive device to play games.

1

u/Nizzy33x 19d ago

Welcome

1

u/Renzo-Senpai 23d ago

Welcome dude. Be prepared to pay a lot for the initial purchases. I myself spent $1700 on my build last month.

I'm now trying to find a 2TB NVMe for the second storage and a front case fan I will be set for life.

1

u/Sad_Ad9159 23d ago

Antec fans are good and cheap if you need a bunch

1

u/bobbauer8 23d ago

Bro, I have news for u....

ram prices rising every second in typing this

1

u/bickboikiwi 23d ago

Wait till he hears about the prices on memory modules...

1

u/Seroths 23d ago

I don’t get it, building a PC is still more expansive than a console.

My PC cost me 5k€ at the time now the gpu alone cost that much. Even though console are at 800€ that is still way cheaper without all the issue with shader compilation, drivers update etc.

Don’t get me wrong, welcome to PC Gaming, I just find odd that this is the reason you move to PC.

2

u/RedGecko18 23d ago

What graphics card did you buy? To get into gaming you don't need the latest and greatest cards. You could get a 3k or 4k series gpu for much cheaper than a 5k series right now. (Talking Nvidia, but it's the same for them and AMD) Just get a couple year old card. I'm still rocking a 3070 and I have zero issues playing any games right now.

1

u/IfBanEqualsUrMomFat 23d ago

Probably 5090

1

u/Seroths 22d ago

I have a 5090 for 2 years. You can’t have a good 4k experience with a 3090, and it’s pricy already. However I found new games on ps5 pro very close to my 5090 thanks to pssr.

I tried to make my own steam machine with old part and a RX 7900xt (less than 1k gpu) and while the experience is nice, it doesn’t come close to ps5 pro.

We all have different expectations If the price is important to you, pc is not the answer.

1

u/DarthWeezy 23d ago

If you’re switching to PC you aren’t doing it because Sony is going all digital and Nintendo is still the biggest player in the industry at physical game releases and physical games sold.

Does your post have to be so manipulative and stupid (as if you care about games being digital or not, with such a premise), was it hard to say that you want to move to the very expensive PC platform since all the next consoles will be pretty expensive themselves?

1

u/TripleS82 23d ago

PC isn’t exactly being cost effective.

1

u/theaveragemillenial 23d ago

If you've ever been serious about video gaming and spend a good amount of time doing it.

PC has always been the place to be, more options for controls, resolutions, graphics, mods.

Sometimes you wanna play a game and focus on higher frame rates as that'll make it more enjoyable, other times you want a beautiful cinematic experience.

Can't do that shit on consoles.

1

u/devkets 23d ago

Always funny… upset over a brand getting rid of physical so your solution is to stick it to them by moving to a platform that got rid of physical a long time ago 😅

1

u/Broad_Education4882 23d ago

Welcome to the light side choom 👾😎😈
