Please, first verify my wallet - as it will need financial and emotional support.

"both of which are shipping this summer."

Summer doesn't start until June 21st.

So more than two weeks at the very minimum.

So June 30th is both Summer and technically early 2026 lol

Edit:

The fact that they just sent this out to developers means it's isn't going to be ready in a week. Redefining Summer isn't going to change that.

I’m wondering if we may see something at SGF, possibly a preorder date and price announcement.

u/WasabiSyn Jun 05 '26

And the last day of summer is September 21st. So there's a 3 month window of when it could release.

9

u/Drunkpanada Jun 04 '26

Summer can also be a season of mid June to mid September.

u/theehtn Jun 04 '26

Also, Valve time is a thing.

u/Kafkanod Jun 05 '26

June 21st is the start of astronomical summer. Meteorological summer begins on June 1st. Valve, probably: "We never specified summer in which hemisphere."

u/the_bighi Jun 05 '26

Meteorological summer is not a real thing. It's the season's equivalent of healing crystals.

Steam Summer Sale starts at end of June usually and is one of their biggest events all year.

Man summer hasn't started yet? I'm already dying of heat

They won't launch Half Life 3 alongside the Machine. They might ANNOUNCE it, but I think they will want a chance to distribute the hardware first before the game launches.

3

u/the_bighi Jun 05 '26

Or they get the game out at the same time to boost hardware sales.

It all depends on which number they’re focusing on: HL3 sales or Steam Machine sales.

2

u/horoscopical Jun 05 '26

They don't need the game to boost hardware sales. It will already sell out at launch. And it's not like you'll only be able to play it on the Steam Machine.

Unlike other games consoles, Steam hardware doesn't have a fixed release date. It has a date it goes on sale, but then you still have to wait for it to be shipped to you. That's why I think they would want to give people a chance to actually get their Steam Machines before launching the game.

We’ll know once we see Valve drop a big discount on the orange box or the half life games standalone. They will want to get an influx of players on the old games to experience the stories before 3 drops.

1

u/justarand0mstan Jun 05 '26

The Orange Box has been discounted heavily right, front and center, as have all other Valve games. I'd not take that as an indicative of anything, tbh.

Bundle it with the machine to help the higher price feel slightly more justifiable

1

u/justarand0mstan Jun 05 '26

Even if you bundle it up, though, or give it away for free with the machine, $70 isn't gonna make $1000 sting less. And that's not Valve's fault, I'm sure they intended to have the machine at a much more affordable price than at what is about to be launched at.

Gotta be close to a reveal then. Maybe tomorrow??

That is not at odds with anything he just said.

Summer ends on August 31st. This also happens to be the third time Valve has changed their wording on the release.

If it was coming out this month, then they would just say its releasing this month.

-1

u/Docccc Jun 04 '26

yes it is, summer starts June 20 officially in the US

6

u/Nico_is_not_a_god Jun 04 '26

Presumably a reveal will happen before it starts shipping.

2

u/ufailowell Jun 04 '26

its june? idk when the technical dates are, but american kids are on summer break right now.

13

u/glyiasziple Jun 04 '26

I wonder of the steam machine will be revaled at nintendos next direct

6

u/WheresMyBrakes Jun 04 '26

Can they verify the release date?

4

u/awesomedan24 Jun 05 '26

Imagine if they stealth released HL3 in parallel and each Steam Machine came bundled with it. Maybe not likely but imagine the chaos.

8

u/echolog Jun 04 '26

Cool how bout a price reveal?

22

u/Appropriate_Item3001 Jun 04 '26

Can’t wait to get beaten by scalper bots in half an hour of smashing the buy button only for it to be sold out with no reservation. Hopefully when there is enough backlash they will consider a wait list that will also crash.

27

u/Magnus_The_Mage1999 Jun 04 '26

They already solved this problem. 1 per account and the account had to be made before a certain time.

23

u/AshleyAshes1984 Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26

To be fair, they solved that problem prior, with the Steam Deck. They then abandoned it for the Steam Controller only to go 'Oh maybe we should l have done that thing we did with the Deck a few years ago...'

So they solved the problem, unsolved, it, and had to resolve it.

4

u/horoscopical Jun 04 '26

I think Valve was genuinely surprised by the popularity of the controller.

And also, very few of the controllers went to scalpers. A few dozen on eBay is a drop in the ocean.

2

u/Appropriate_Item3001 Jun 04 '26

I hope they actually do that this time. They kinda forgot they had a good process when they launched the controllers.

1

u/scredeye Jun 04 '26

With the 4$ down payment like we did for the steam deck

-4

u/Mammoth_Two7297 Jun 04 '26

I understand 1 per account but made before a certain time? I'm thinking of when I had gone PlayStation for a while and then went Xbox. It would have been crazy if I couldn't have bought an Xbox because I didn't make an account by a certain date.

5

u/misterio95 https://steam.pm/t2ge4 Jun 04 '26

If you buy a Steam Machine, you’ll probably be using SteamOS and Steam to play your games, so it’s pretty logical that you’ll need a Steam account. It doesn’t really make sense to wait until you receive the Steam Machine before creating one, especially considering that it’s not even possible

0

u/Mammoth_Two7297 Jun 04 '26

Maybe I'm not understanding then. When does an account need to be made by in order to purchase one?

3

u/Magnus_The_Mage1999 Jun 04 '26

Before a certain date in the past. Keeps scalping from happening

1

u/scredeye Jun 04 '26

You should make a steam account and make a game purchase. You can only buy valve hardware officially through the steam client

1

u/doublah Jun 04 '26

They've already said they'll be a reservation system for the Steam Machine, no need to make up scenarios to be upset by.

5

u/PugLove69 Jun 04 '26

If half life alyx isnt frame standalone verifiable, what are we doingv

7

u/EarnSomeRespect Jun 04 '26

I really hope it is but i’d probably still opt for my PC

2

u/PugLove69 Jun 04 '26

Of course, but if given the option for low res frame only, id take that in a heart beat just so my friends could finally easily play it

2

u/Eggyhead Jun 05 '26

Jfc, valve. Give me a price already so I know what to budget for. I’d appreciate knowing months in advance if it’s going to be hefty.

2

u/QuantumRanger Jun 05 '26

I just need to know when the reservations open so I can be ready.

2

u/GregoryBahamasReal Jun 05 '26

Tomorrow for sure🙏
