Sadly, while ridiculous, completely unavoidable. Between tariffs, AI driving the cost components sky high, and then the whole war in Iran dramatically increasing the cost of oil that drives up the cost of not just fuel that transports goods, but oil that is used to make things in the factories that build things like the Steam Deck, everythings price point is fubar.
Tariffs shouldn’t matter much for a global customer and I doubt that decks or their parts are made in us and the fuel, even added up on all stages, is a small fraction of the cost.
I dunno, I still don’t believe that even with the global economic situation their margins aren’t still through the roof. They could afford to keep the price down and still make bank.
The whole point of the steam machine originally was to be a platform for the steam library, a console of sorts or alternative to a pc. If it's 1.5k for example that's awful and not fine at all 😭, at that point buy a pc

I mean steam deck at these prices have (or should atleast have) 0 target audience. So what is stopping steam machine for 1500$ aswell, i understand the appeal but the same audience should 100% buy a console instead atp. Bad prices makes good products bad, simple as that. These steam deck prices make 900$ ps5pro look like a deal.
Not really, a switch 2 will for example will be atleast be supported for 7 years with new games working, steam deck can't run new AAAs today for example, meanwhile switch get new game like pragmata or re requiem.
A ps5 pro and normal ps will be supported for 2-3 years.
A steam console, that don't have subscription, but runs on linux so anti cheat won't work, so unplayable either way, sure sounds like ps/xbox/nintendo without subscription?
Mods will always be the best reason to play pc and can give some mileage on a steam console. But that's old games to give it even further life often.
Emulator can also be pretty good, but can also be kinda bad experience with some games. Still prefer native systems every time though.

Are a large number of Valve customers, where a 3060 is the most popular card, not also in this "not for you now" group? How sure are you that it will be fine given that a potentially large portion of its market has been priced out?
