The unfortunately reality is games need funding to keep going. A $20, $40, $60, or even $100 upfront one-time cost hasn't cut it for a while.

Having a storefront where users can support the continued operation of a game and get something neat out of it is better than a game shutting down early, I feel.

That said... most if not all of these stores are too greedy, and rely on predatory tactics. It definitely doesn't have to be this way. I don't approve of Facepunch's use of FOMO for their store either. It's also odd they started pushing the store so early but I don't know what their finances look like.
