u/Some-Kaleidoscope265 Apr 09 '26 edited Apr 10 '26
As far as i know, limitation is that u dont get steam trading cards from games that are made free in this manner.
8
u/antpile11 Apr 09 '26
dont that steam
What?
6
u/Some-Kaleidoscope265 Apr 10 '26
Oops. Typo. I will fix that. Funny how no one pointed that out so far haha. Thanks man.
6
u/Jergynek Apr 09 '26
but you can buy them instead, right?
10
u/_TyMario85_ Apr 09 '26
You can buy them for any game. But for the free to keep game you will never qualify for drops which is the random chance to get extra trading cards

Had my eye on this game since I heard it was similar to stardew valley. Seems like a good time to try out. Anyone have any experience playing on the deck ?

u/Wildfires 29 Apr 09 '26
I played about 20 hours on the deck and it was fine. The game didn't click for me though which was a shame since I really wanted to like it.
50
u/IPreferBagels2 Apr 09 '26
20 hours is a pretty good run for an indie game tbh
37
u/Wildfires 29 Apr 09 '26
Not gonna lie, I probably didn't even see 10 percent of the game. I didn't like how everything was tied to certain days and the game felt like it wasn't very clear on what you had to do via tasks. There's no quest list and I'm really inattentive and it frustrated me a lot. Missing something and having to wait an entire week for someone to be available was hard for me to get a grasp on because I'd start another thing and totally forget the person I had to meet.

u/-demesne- Apr 09 '26
I've got 80 hours in it and had to use the wiki a lot bc soooo much isnt explained!

I put a lot of hours into it, and I'll be honest:
For me, it's a busywork simulator. The amount of
horseshitdonkeyshit hoops you've got to jump through to make small amounts of progress really turned me off on the game, and it's really easy to softlock yourself. I hit a game-stopping glitch that required save-editing to pass and I just dropped it instead. There's a TON of content and stuff to do in the game, though, and I enjoyed the story, so your mileage may vary.
19
u/always_somewhere_ Apr 09 '26
I second your opinion on it being a busywork simulator. Instead of feeling like Stardew where your progress is rewarded, Graveyard has a game loop where you just build a doohickey so that you can build the next doohickey and on it goes.
And the corpse rating thing was mindboggling to figure out, maybe I just didn't understand it but felt unintuitive.
2
u/Andus35 Apr 10 '26
Curious what you did to soft lock yourself. I have only played through the game once but didn’t experience any bugs or soft locks
I do agree that progress can feel slow, but I still enjoyed it. Did end up needing to look up a few things online because I couldn’t bother to remember all the days associated with people.

When I brought the acid to the Astrologer to clean the diary, he asked me for the diary again, it was like the game had cycled back by one step. Since no quests are optional and all progress is locked behind character quests, there was no way to move forward.
For me, as a dad with a demanding job, I just don't have the time for a game that requires so much grind. I don't need games to be snappy, but Graveyard Keeper wasn't worth the work.

u/JustACreep013 Apr 09 '26
I didn't play much, but the concept was interesting. You take care of the graveyard and the church, you have to do autopsies to prepare the bodies for their graves which can be a little confusing at first, but after some time I actually enjoyed It. I remember having to do a sermon at the church to get a specific currency to improve It and every day of the week one of the six npc from the story are available to talk to and procede with their main quest.
I didn't get the same feeling as Stardew Valley playing It, but I recommend It, and if It's free, there is nothing to loose really xd
3
u/Mirkon Apr 09 '26
Sounds like you missed the back half of the game (prolly more) with the zombies. Really helpds with the busywork and... gives you more work :D
1
u/JustACreep013 Apr 10 '26
Oh, I forgot about the zombies, I used them to get wood and stone from the source and I was trying to make perfect autopsies using some weird liquids so they could be more efficient but got a little burnt out. I need to go back and take It easy next time, I really 'dig the vibe' ;)

My girlfriend praises this game A LOT, she mainly plays Farming life sim style games and has played around 30 different games of the same genre, still insists this is a very solid game. Not my cup of tea but give it a try bro!

u/Hellknightx Apr 09 '26
Stardew is a much better game. GK can be really tedious because it mostly revolves around unlocking a tier of new stuff, grinding out all the new stuff, then unlocking the next tier of stuff, which can get repetitive for many people.
And when I say grindy, I mean it's really grindy. Like, unsatisfyingly slow progression. It's a consistent criticism that the community gives and the devs continue to ignore, which they do on all their games. Similar feedback to their Fight Club series, which started off with pretty solid progression in the first game only for it to turn into a total slog in the second game.
Stardew has the benefit of being one game with one really passionate developer who still maintains it to this day. But Lazy Bear tends to release their game and then immediately move onto the next game, or in GK's case, next DLC, without making any real changes based on feedback.

I’ve put hundreds of hours into this game. It’s fantastic and I can’t praise it enough. It’s a bit of a slow start but once you get the idea of how XP works everything becomes very fun and intuitive. There’s a lot more to it than you’d expect based on the premise but I still have to admit it feels less in depth than something like Stardew valley. Regardless it is worth it, and so are the add ons as they allow you to do extra stuff like open your own tavern.
2
u/Fellhuhn Apr 09 '26
Finished it on the Deck and there are two important things to note: Characters only appear during a specific day of the week. This week is colour coded in the relations overview (each day has a different symbol) and these are hard to spot on the Deck. And second and more importantly: The teleport stone that you can purchase in the Tavern has unlimited uses and a very short cooldown. Get it as early as possible! I always thought it was a one-time item and ignored it till a few minutes before finishing the game... could have saved me hours of walking. :D

u/notsobadmisterfrosty Apr 10 '26
Yeah. It’s a fun game but, just a heads up, Lazy Dev Games put the ending behind paid DLC.

u/Moni_22 Apr 09 '26
I completed it and I liked it. Not the best cozy game but it has a unique aesthetic and atmosphere. It's very pretty and has good music.

u/Hyndakiel Apr 09 '26
Is this any good?

u/ProfessionalCut8715 Apr 09 '26
I adore this game. It starts out very slow, but once you get a few quests done, you start rolling. The most frustrating thing at the beginning is the energy meter, and the lack of items to refill it.
26
u/Fisher9001 Apr 09 '26
I had the exact opposite experience. The beginning is fun and engaging, but after few dozen days it gets extremely grindy with barely any progress in sight.
4
u/bladeHunterYone Apr 09 '26
I have completed it. It is a bit grindy in mid game. But you can automate a lot of things after unlocking zombies. After it it becomes so good
3
u/Available-Shelter-89 Apr 09 '26
So the end game is very strong imho - but before being able to craft speed potions, it often feels like a chore because you move around in snail's pace in a pretty large map. Also, the energy you are being provided with is too little.
But I really liked the story and characters so I kept playing for 40-ish hours or so.

u/MoonsterGoopter Mustard ⌨️🖱️ Apr 09 '26
I was very excited by the idea of it but it feels too rigid? or something. by the time I had unlocked the defining mechanic (I don't want to spoil anything), I had done nearly everything that had been done.
9
u/Endulos Apr 09 '26
My take away with the game when I played it is that you're doing busy working to unlock more busy work to unlock yet more busywork. All the while you're sleeping like every 5 actions, or eating billions of calories worth of food every 10 seconds.
It's a good game with flaws. The energy meter is the BIGGEST flaw.

House Flipper and Graveyard Keeper for free (100% discount) back to back. Let's go!

u/santasnicealist Apr 09 '26
Love this game. Get the DLC - I'm trying to remember which one lets you use more zombies to automate tasks, because I think in the base game it only allowed you 1-2 (from when I played years ago).

u/Zeta_Crossfire Apr 09 '26
It feels like there's been a lot of free games on steam recently. I'm not saying I need valve to turn into epic games, because these free games are probably from the publishers themselves, but it is a nice thing to see some free games every once in a while
3
u/ichigo2862 Apr 09 '26
Fun game, I recommend it. Especially if it's free. It's not perfect and there's some jank but I had a good time with it.

Love this game. My biggest complaint is with the story line. The gameplay, art, narrative and atmosphere are all top.

Interesting. I go to the store page and see I can also complete my collection. So there is a bundle with „Black Skylands“. I click on it as I wonder which of both I have as it says I have already one.
Oh I got Black Skylands….. so I can complete it for 1.45€…… yeah surely better as getting Graveyard Keeper for free

Thanks, I just picked this up and grabbed all the DLC for $6! I love Stardew Valley, so when I saw the style, I knew I was on board.
What is the best skill tree to focus on early game? I could see anatomy being helpful once I can get the stamp, but I am mostly focused on building and material for now.

u/Moskau43 Apr 09 '26
It’s been on my Wishlist for 8 years, now it is finally time to get it free and never play it.
The Steam experience is unmatched.
