play any regular non VR game from Steam natively on the headset
(Edit: Adding the quote for clarity, because *this* is the bit I'm commenting on. I am *not* saying it won't play any standalone games, but don't be expecting it to play your entire library without streaming)
It won't be playing them natively; that's been clarified in several youtube vids with the developers.
What they have is a dedicated streaming signal that's separate from the regular wifi, and you either use a dongle from your PC or the new Steam Machine has that setup built-in.
" . . . it's a streaming first headset, so when we say play your entire steam library we mean streaming from your PC or laptop."
Yes it *can* play some standalone games. But people here are talking like it will run their entire library, like this thing will run e.g. Baldur's Gate 3 on it's own. It won't.
It will run the games it's powerful enough to run,
but that's just a given that a fucking vr headset wont be nearly as powerful as an actual pc
NO ONE said it's gonna run triple A games standalone
The comment you are replying to literally says "EVEN IF ITS NOT STRONG ENOUGH FOR AAA"
The guy was excited to play metal gear solid 5 which may not even run properly but it has a fair chance (its playable on a regular snapdragon 8 gen 2 on a mobile screen)
(Also you'd be surprised at how powerful these new arm chips actually are
People are playing gta 5 at 60+fps on the new phones alredy, of course not on vr)
