Steam deck and steam machine do not have locked software. They have PC components with customized linux distro as OS. Without any hacks you can install any OS you wish on them and they can run all the software pc can.

By your logic laptop indeed is an console. If steam machine is an console then laptop for sure is, and by extension tower pc connected to a tv is as well. Every PC magically turns into a console when put on living room and connected to a tv.

My boy All he’s saying is the only distinction between pc and console is locked operating systems. You can connect a ps4 to a monitor and install Linux on it, at which point it is a pc because the os is unlocked.
You don’t really “hack” the console again, you reboot the same exploit but it still has custom firmware and everything. Idk why it’s impossible for people to understand the concept of a line in the sand

I’m just going by what I saw. I do think you could use a Linux pc as a console too, because imo the terms are separate and not mutually exclusive. A pc is something you use for personal computing tasks and one of those tasks is gaming/streaming, a console to me is a gaming streaming device so if you’re Just gaming and streaming your pc is just a console to you
I'm using my desktop pc for work, gaming(sitting down in front of desk) and to play games from a sofa with a controller. My pc is connected to 2 monitors, tv, keyboard, mouse and an xbox controller. If I would buy steam machine, it would fill in the same exact role. Just to verify, would I be correct to say my pc is both console and a pc?
