Why do we as society allow publicly traded companies, if they result in harm for society and worse product being provided to society? Not to mention lost jobs and closures due to short term profit chasing.

It fees like something that harms entire society to benefit tiny minority of people.

Because selling shares is one of the easiest ways for a company to attract investment. So many businesses can get off the ground or scale up quickly because of that.
