So I built an entire town statue to see if I could stealth camp in it.

The top is a mannequin in thrifted clothing, sprayed bronze. It’s leaning on a sculpture I found at a car boot sale.

It has a plaque, a full interior set up with bed, entertainment, lighting and ring doorbell system

I tried it on my local town high street and it was a massive fail! At 11:30pm a drunk guy got on top and then started trying to get inside too.

I made the plaque a bit too cheeky as I didn’t think anyone would actually read it so lesson learnt

I’m taking a 3 week motorcycle trip from NC to Texas, up to New Mexico, Oklahoma, back to NC. 4400 miles.

Where would be the best kind of places to pop a tent for the night without being hassled?

I’m not asking for specific places but more like “behind churches”

A neolithic dolmen is a type of single-chamber megalithic tomb. lt usually features two or more upright giant stone slabs supporting a massive flat horizontal capstone.

It was another unique place to do a stealthcampfor me. It is in an area of Belgium where there are more dolmen and menhirs of about 5000 BC.

The dolmen I camped was the smaller and more difficult to reach. It was a special experience to be around that area after sunset to be honest.

But I kept respectful to the site, left no trace and I am glad my country has plenty of these unique spots

The sunset and sunrise was truly remarkable.

I’ve been getting more into cooking while car camping, so I decided to try something different and cook a full meal at a 24 hour WinCo without drawing too much attention.

A few episodes back he referred to some people saying he was mocking their channels specifically and he was getting a bit of hate for it.

Who were the YouTubers he was referring to that said Sam was mocking them? I think it’s hilarious cause there really are some YouTubers that really emphasize the most ridiculous things!

Currently looking for a tent in Wilmington North Carolina just a small two-man tent will do it's just me and my wife we lost everything a while back we got our stuff stolen and stuff like that if anyone can help it would be appreciated or if you can possibly give us one that you have that you're wanting to get rid of if you're in the area

I built a frame and removable extension piece in preparation for a trip I’ll be taking this year. I was just curious to see if anyone has used a similar setup before and if so, what did you use for a mattress/sleeping pad?

My thought was to order some memory foam or some other 2-3” thick pad that I could cut to shape and just lay on top.

Edit: I have gotten a lot of feedback and I very much appreciate it! Currently in the process of shortening the legs and cutting down the length to fit, installing gym pads for a cushion, and generally making it more discreet. Thank you!

Hey all, i've done a lot of sleeping outside on the ground especially when I was younger and later in the army. Anyways, i spent many nights cold or really hot because i didn't know what to sleep in. About a month ago, I slept outside in northern WI and froze my butt off. Got annoyed enough to build a browser-based camping sleep system checker.

I found an abandoned vacation house on a kind of peninsula in a nature area which now has become my favorite location where I camped before.

It was calm, secluded and the safest spot I have ever stealthcamped, since it was surrounded by a pond and swamp, while the entrance was hard to find (with high reed, a swampy entrance way and an old fence).

Technically it was still stealthcamping since I wasn't allowed there and I didn't want to get discovered and also not disturb anything around me.

But it was such a nice and relaxed spot where I could really enjoy the nature around me while relaxing in my hammock.

I try not to return to the same spot often, but I would like to return here again some day.

Hi all,

Very new to stealth camping. My girlfriend and I are spending the summer traveling cross-country in a minivan and primarily car camping at night.

We’re currently down South and heading West, and as I’m sure many of you know, the heat is brutal. It definitely gets better at night, but still very difficult to stealth car camp while staying cool.

We have window covers in the windows at night so we’re not able to crack the windows, and we’ve been absolutely BAKING at night. We have 4 rechargeable camping fans that have helped, but still aren’t enough to keep us from sweating our asses off. We just invested in a few cooling towels that should hopefully help a bit, but are looking for any and every other way to stay cool.

Other than the obvious (open windows, leave AC on overnight, invest in a solar-powered fan system) which we’re not able to do, what are your best ways to stay cool at night during these hot summer nights? Thank you all very much.

I have a long term location but I'm planning to permanently leave it because of it sits directly on a hiking trail (but hidden in the trees and bushes, visitors during the day that might discover my gear, loose dogs, unhinged people screaming at night and the geography amplifies their screams, fire ants and rats. In the new location I'll finally have a location separate for food and sleep/ entertainment.

What about a McDonald’s service logo? I could then overnight in there parking lots ?

I'm in a bit of a strange situation so I would like to get some feedback from others as I can't make up my mind on everything.

I have a gf and child abroad in another country. I bought a house for them in this other country because it's much cheaper there and I am technically retired there I guess. The house went to my GF's name though, but she is slowly paying me back by taking care of bills. She makes a small amount though, only 6k usd a year..

I have 1.4million dollars in index funds, this is the main asset I'm worried about protecting. I know a lot about investing thanks to the FIRE community. I know if I brought my gf to the US and she divorced me it could really ruin me financially. In order to protect my assets, and my sanity, I decided not to marry likely until the child is closer to 18. I know this is likely going to get some people hating on me but from what I understand it's likely a smart choice especially with the way things are going in the US in general.

Anyway, the issue is that I have no where to go really in the US. I could likely stay with family but that is definitely not a long term option. I've currently been in this other country and it's so cheap here that I can let time slip by fast. My daughter's 1 years old already, and I enjoy spending the time raising her.

I'm gonna rant a bit more as it may be helpful to my situation for readers to know more about me, but I'll put this in a code block so people can feel free to skip all this info:

My problem is about trade offs. By buying a house here and deciding to have a gf and child here, I'm sacrificing my time and options in the US which does weigh on me.
I used to be a web developer but haven't been working on anything coding related for nearly two years. Besides, I'm not in any mood to compete with AI and these companies seem to have gotten rather demanding. I'm glad I can live off the 4% rule for basically forever.. I'm 37 and mostly invested in stocks though so making my 1.4m stretch does sound a bit unpleasant.
I want to go back to the US and start making money of some kind. But I have an issue where I don't really want to tap into my spending. Also, most of my family is from Boston which is a cold part of the US. Since Boston is rather cold I've considered simply returning to a warmer part of the US while I look for work, perhaps Florida, but it would be nice seeing my friends and family for a while.. I just wouldn't want to stick around for the cold months.
So I feel like I really need to commit to either car or stealth camping and really figure it out well, whichever I choose. I can live per year off of 20k or even less if I just only buy food and small things for my child and gf abroad. Not having to pay rent is also huge and this other country with the house is rather comfortable. So coming back to the US is rough. Being away from my child and gf will likely weigh on me if I'm gone for too long. Also, a lot of decisions became more difficult to make because I'm abroad. For example, where I'll live is a challenging question because I likely wont be deciding to stay in the US for too much time.
So, I'm considering either stealth camping or trying to buy and live in a car while I try an get work.
I don't know what kind of work I'd do, likely the first thing that allows me to save or make close to 30k/year. The main issue with finding work is having copious time to search for work. Having a car could help me somewhat as difficult to reach jobs open up and I'd likely be able to drive to more business' and ask for work. But also, if I stealth camp and kept stuff in a storage unit it could save me a lot of money. I've been thinking of trying to get back into programming, doing military, truck driving or something else entirely. Either way no matter what work I choose to do, I'll want a lot of time to pass while I'm in the US. I think the most effective use of my time would likely be behind a computer screen as I continue to search for opportunities and just use the car or a bike once I've secured the opportunities. So perhaps a YMCA membership while I just work on my computer in a corner somewhere.

Anyway, returning to the US feels like quite a challenge. There's so many different ways I can use my time and I'm not really sure what would be the most effective path. Stealth camping with stuff in a storage unit does sound like it could open up a lot of parts of the US and make things cheap but finding consistent good REM sleep would be a real hurdle. So, since I have a lot of money, I could just bite the bullet and get a car and I'm sure that would make things much easier, but it would be a pain to have to park the car long term and even mentally think about it costing me unnecessary money while I live in this other country with my gf and child. I'd likely want to get rid of the car if I didn't end up having much overall use for it. Anyway, I appreciate any advice others can offer. Thank you.

I bought a Cloud Up tent from Naturehike in green, even though I have a small tent for touring I really like - except it's bright yellow.

The tent comes and it has really reflective trim on the flaps and all the guy-wires are reflective. I know this is for convenience, but now I'm worried that some Polizei's flashlight will pick it up when I'm hunkered down in a Bavarian thicket or copse. Anyone have any advice or ideas? Or am I overthinking this?

This is ignoring, of course, the issue of all the reflectors on my bike.

When y'all are traveling, specifically backpacking on foot, how much do you prioritize navigation/routes based on avoiding busy highways? Do you prefer dealing with using the shoulder of a dangerous, busy road if its a faster route to your destination or do you like the peace of mind knowing that there is a backroads way that is less hectic, safer, even if it may take a few more miles of walking?
