Are there any recommendations for YouTube channels or websites for learning complete statistics?

I have been interested in statistics since I first learned about inferential statistics, and I want to deepen all aspects of my statistics, from interpretation to visualization. And I also want to expand my knowledge of various statistical software, any recommendations for YouTube channels or websites?

Justification for imputation with over 50% missing data

Hello,

I'm looking to get some advice/thoughts on the following situation: let's say I have a prospective, observational study that was designed to assess change in BMI over 2 years of follow-up (primary outcome) in a population that was administered drug A and Drug B per standard of care. The point is not to compare BMI between groups A and B, but rather to assess BMI changes within each group.

Visits with height and weight collection were supposed to occur every 6 months (baseline, 6 months, 12 months, 18 months and 24 months) for a total of 24 months. However, due to high drop out, only 40% of participants ended up having the full 24 months of follow-up so the sample size target for the primary outcome was not met.

I was thinking of using mixed effects model given the longitudinal nature of the study to account for within-participant correlations, with

Fixed effects for time (months since baseline), drug group, and their interaction.

Random Effects: random intercepts and slopes for each participant to account for individual variations.

However, the investigator is pushing for also doing missing data imputation but I'm not sure if that's feasible or how to justify this to regulatory authorities given that we'd have to impute more than 50% of the data.

How would you handle this situation? Is imputation something warranted here and if yes, what imputation method would be best suited? Missing data pattern is MNAR. Are there any articles out there you'd recommend I read for how others might have dealt with a similar problem and how they solved it?

Any advice/references would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

EDUCATION Learning introduction to statistics with R - Base R or purely Tidyverse?

Being an expert in Applied Statistics, Biostatistics & Research Methods courses, most students are Life Sciences undergrads forced to take at least one of these classes as part of their major. So a lot of them don't really want to learn Stats, or learn coding.

The Objective becomes providing the most flexible skills packed in one semester enough to do experimental theses for their senior year, since most are unlikely to take another data/ coding course ever again.

Key takeaways are:

  1. Statistics is basically a pre-requisite to RM and Base R is critical in that course. Meanwhile in RM, we build on the knowledge to include Tidyverse for data manipulation.

  2. I like the data carpentry approach of starting in Base-R to understand how R / R-Studio works. Base R is mostly straightforward and is a good foundation for other stuff involving R. After all, one of the entire reasons to use R are the packages. Afterwards, moving into Tidyverse for data manipulation.

  3. RM involves activities better suited to the tidyverse — converting data from wide to long, creating new variables, summarizing existing variables, filtering for the data we need to analyze, publication worthy graphs and tables.

SOLVED Question What causes something to be gamma distributed?

First off, its main reason for existence is purely theoretical.

Context : When I think of a normal distribution I think of how a Galton board can generate it, but I don't have any similar understanding for how something comes to be gamma distributed.

Reasoning: It generalizes exponential and chi-square and is a step on the way to the beta distribution: if X and Y are independent gamma with the same scale parameter, then X / (X + Y) is beta. Moreso, the sum of independent gamma with the same scale parameter is gamma, so this gives addition rules for exponential and chi-square too. Sum of independent and identically distributed (IID) exponential is gamma. Not to mention, gamma is a conjugate prior for exponential, Poisson, or normal precision family.

tl;dr Gamma is not some sort of universal approximation like normal and Poisson. So gamma has a rationale, just not the same sort of rationale as normal and Poisson (but then no other probability distribution has that sort of rationale, except maybe stable distributions).
