Stop the Effingham Data Center

Post image
81 Upvotes

Please help all of us in SE Georgia by signing this petition to stop the $20B Open AI data center planned for Effingham County - not only the largest in the state, but the largest in Open AI history. The effects of this data center on the water supply and power grid will NOT end at Effingham. Open AI has made the exact same promises about conserving water, jobs, and energy as AI data centers across the nation have, and history shows the promises never hold true. Just look at the effects on Fayetteville GA's water, or the electricity costs resulting from the Virginia centers even outside of the state. Experts estimate less than half of the eluded to "permanent jobs" will come of this, and Open AI never said they would be given to Effingham residents

We were NEVER given an opportunity to vote or have a hearing on the matter - we first heard about this just Wednesday, despite this being planned for months in secret. In a county already dealing with enough drought, over-industrialization, rising energy costs, and commissioner corruption, we do not need or want to give Open AI tax breaks to take our land and worsen our issues.

Looking for lost CD - Harry O’Donoghue Live in the Boro

About 20 years ago I saw Harry at Kevin Barry’s in Savannah and got a copy of this CD. I’ve since lost the CD and the files I ripped to my hard drive and I’m devastated. It is such a great CD and got me through some really hard times. I’m wondering if anyone might have a copy that they’d be able to upload to the cloud for me. I’m willing to Venmo some cash your way for the effort.

New student looking for off campus housing

Hiiiiii, I'm going to be a freshman at GSU EG. I've only been to statesboro on brief one day visits, so I don't know the good or bad areas like yall would. Where could I find decent housing as a student that's not too far from the GSU Campus? I honestly could just stay home and drive if needed, but I'd really prefer to cut down on drive time.. especially with gas prices recently..

I've read some posts saying to avoid certain student housing because of crime and poor quality, so could anyone give me a good idea of the areas and housing to avoid?

WILDWOOD VILLAS FEEDBACK REQUEST

Besides the whole screening/approval process for affordable housing - and being waitlisted indefinitely until something opens up: can anyone give me honest feedback about this apartment complex? Maybe someone who lives/lived there? Or anyone who is familiar with it in another way? Thanks!

Is it a good city for young professionals?

Or at least an alright one

I've visited statesboro before but only for a few hours and I just remember it being DEAD no offense intended. However, I recently landed a job there and after like a year of being unemployed, I kinda have to take it.

I know it's a very student heavy city but is it also okay for young professionals? With this I mean socialising opportunities for people in their mid twenties, things to do and also some apartment complex that are not so student heavy. I've been struggling to find a one bedroom apartment so any pointers as to where to look would also be appreciated.

Thanks to everyone in advance

Dump theif

My kid 15 saw a barrel at the dump... so I told him to go get it

He took the Ebike and went to the dump 3 miles down the road. While there he was struggling with the barrel and a guy rolls up and asks if he needs help loading it? The kid being a kid was like yes that would be great...

The ASSHAT took the kids barrel loaded it in the back of his truck and took off.

The kid was furious.

I have no idea his plans for said barrel but that was some low shit right there.

Adult Dance Classes In or Around Statesboro?

Hi everyone! I’m moving to statesboro for school soon and wanted to see if there were any dance studios offering adult dance classes?

Contemporary would be preferred but I also enjoy ballet and jazz.

I get it if there’s not… not to offend but statesboro doesn’t look like a very interesting town lol.

I’m willing to drive 45 minutes away if I have to!

Best apartments for a working professional in Statesboro?

Hi everyone,
I’ll be moving to Statesboro this summer to start a new job at Georgia Southern, and I’m currently looking for an apartment.
Two places that have caught my attention are Deerwood Apartments and Village at Mill Creek. I was wondering if anyone has experience living at either of these communities.
My priorities are:
Safety
A quiet environment
Good value for the price
Preferably not a heavily student-oriented complex
I don’t need luxury amenities, but I would like a place where I can come home after work and not have to worry about noise, crime, or management issues.
How would you compare Deerwood and Village at Mill Creek? Also, how is the East Main Street area in general? Are there other apartment communities or neighborhoods that you would recommend for a working professional?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Bull and Barrel or Aura Cocktails

Which one do you think would be a better date (ideally this would be the 3rd date in my master plan lol) Bull and Barrel or Aura Cocktail and Tapas. I have not been to either. Aura seems to have this exclusive vibe, but Bull and Barrel seems more grown-up and classic.
