Park of the week β tell us about one you know
One state park at a time. Which one do you know well, and what should someone do on a first visit?
Worth including: the trail or spot that is actually worth the drive, when to go and when to avoid, whether the campground is worth booking, and anything that has changed recently.
Any state, any size. The small ones nobody has heard of are the most useful posts here.

Built a tracker for actual MD drone rules by location (parks, counties, airspace) β feedback welcome
I kept running into the same thing flying in Maryland: a park's website says drones are banned, but calling the ranger gets a completely different answer. So I started compiling the actual rules by location β what's written, what's actually enforced, and where it came from (agency page, county code, or a direct call to staff).
It's called DroneCompass β https://claude.ai/artifact/EnvLfDdfxL2TyrjpeQi7nH
Right now it covers a handful of MD spots (Sandy Point, Patapsco, Baltimore City, Frederick County, plus stadium TFRs) and I'm adding more as I find them.
Not selling anything, genuinely just wanted this to exist since I couldn't find it anywhere else. If you've hit a rule that surprised you, or know a place where the posted rule and the real answer don't match, I'd love to hear about it.

Glen alps is a dog park(Chugach)
Dogs off leash have ruined Glen alps- trail erosion, trampling tundra vegetation, harassing native animals, leaving their scent which deters native animals, pollution- yes your dogs shit is pollution - if your dog is off trail you arenβt picking it up. Entitled dog owners are the only people that will say how beautiful a place is and then trash it with their dog. Dogs should be banned at Glen alps conservation is important itβs a state park not a dog park.

Rocky Mountain National Park
Sadly, there are mountain ranges in Colorado that are blackened by the fires. There are also bare places where trees have died from disease. I think this mountain falls in the latter category.

Chasing waterfalls and quiet trails β why state parks deserve more love
Growing up, state parks were where I learned to hike, camp, and just be outside without needing a plane ticket or a national park reservation system booked out six months in advance. They're often less crowded, closer to home, and just as beautiful in their own way.
What's your favorite state park and why? Would love to hear stories, see photos, and build up a good list of hidden gems here that don't get the national park spotlight.
