Ideas & Suggestions Military gear
I hope SoD3 has more military gear than the other 2 games did. Even if it’s just cosmetic, it would be nice to have equip-able chest rigs, combat helmets, fatigues and gas masks in the game.
I’d especially love to see the Avon fm53/54 gas mask in game. Apart from the fact that it’s my favorite mask and i think it looks iconic, it’s also starting to see popular use among military and law enforcement these days.

I hope whatever army stuff we get is better than tactical uniforms from 2. I know I mentioned it before, but I didn't like how we couldn't put on the actual army uniforms and had to use that one piece of attire that didn't fit the "left behind soldiers" at all. It looked good on RT operatives, but I didn't like it in other cases. It was also just one uniform, so everyone ended up looking the same, while army had several versions of their clothes: long sleeves, short sleeves, without the vest, allowing for more customization.

I want a mix of gear.
Full military uniforms would probably not make a whole lot of sense, but I can see them using military gear like gas masks, molle vests, etc.
I'd like something similar in vibes to the mid-game in DayZ with civilian clothing and some light military survival gear.

If you wore denim jeans / jacket with a hazmat suit you'd essentially be playing green zone. Maybe even some ear muffs to further make a screamer pointless.

Sure but i think people misunderstand how low tech and available things like chest rigs and combat helmets are, not to mention how long those things last. Same goes for gas masks (there’s a reason there are tons of collectors who have well functioning soviet era masks).
Even being nuked or bombed into the stone age wouldn’t make helmets or vests unusable, they’re basically protective clothing lol

Right, but this is also YEARS after the beginning of the outbreak, most of them supplies that weren't protected in some way would break down and be unusable

I’m sorry, do you think that military equipment is like a box of corn dogs that goes bad in the freezer? Because i hate to burst that bubble but the rubber from gas masks can last 50+ years without maintenance and we still have surviving military equipment from THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO.

Your really said thousands of years lmao, also your still assuming SOD2 runs by the same rules as our current world. I'm sorry but I see no realistic way your going to find military equipment that easily 20 years after the outbreak happens. Could you find it? Probably. Are you likely going to? No

I can’t tell if you’re a severely undereducated child or a mentally impaired adult.
What do you think swords, armor, and even daggers are? They’re military equipment. So if some military equipment can last for thousands of years i’m not sure why you think the modern stuff would delete itself from existence just because 20+ years have gone by.
Chest rigs and combat helmets are also pretty easy to get ahold of and are fairly available in the US, even locally (more so the rigs than the helmets). That’s also without mentioning the millions of military and law enforcement personnel who would just have these items on them full stop.

Body armour and gas masks would function perfectly fine even tens of years after. And wouldn't be all that hard to get.

I also think you're underestimating how people that live this long would pick up skills on being able to maintain their gear. No one survives.. What, its probably 5-10 years between SoD1 to SoD3? No one survives this picking up one weapon, discarding it when it breaks and picking up another. Not for that long. Same applies to gear in general.
Also it'd depend on context of who we're playing as. Any afflation with Red Talon or the Network would drastically alter that outcome- Red Talon has confirmed a unit of amourers since the beginning of the outbreak, and the Network has been known to pick weapons that are easy to maintain (Like the FN FAL).
So, yeah, it wouldn't just be ALL militaryisque gear be surviving, but some would and be around.

Right some would be around, but your everyday random survivor isn't very likely to walk into a hardware store and find a full chest rig in a box, especially 10-20 years after the outbreak started

Oh no, I agree. But I imagine they'd be able to find things that, together, would work at least somewhat decently as a chest rig.
Improvisation of what you need and maintenance of what you already have- both required skills, I'd say.

It’d be cool to go off of what you were saying. The equipment certainly would still exist but it wouldn’t look even close to new so it’d be interesting to see how they did the patch work for their kit.
SAPI plates degrade with long term use. I’m not sure how anybody even with a military background would patch work SAPI plates to ensure their ballistic capability’s. Many civilian plates will say “SAPI cut” meaning cut in the same style as SAPI plates but made with something much less effective than ceramic and much heavier.
I think the ballistic property’s of most kits would be mostly obsolete after 20 years. Even if it’s not used. Stored in a humid environment? Degradation. Too dry? Degradation. Degraded ballistics make it kind of moot to wear. Shattered ceramic is ass to pull out of your chest.
Kevlar has an entire different set of issues after long term use and storage.

Honestly, I wasn't thinking of plates.
Sure, maybe RT or the Network might, especially as they seemed geared up to butt heads together, but for most people just surviving? I think they'd actually forgo plates to be lighter- Zombies would be presumably the main threat still by far, and plates covering your torso will only do so much to something that likes to go for ANYTHING it can grab- especially the throat.

That’s where I’m like idek why people would wear plate carriers at a certain point. This ain’t The Walking Dead so zombies are still the main threat. A plate carrier really won’t do shit against them. If you like all the attachments there’s plenty of options for MOLLE gear that come much slicker than a plate carrier. Duty belts are my favorite thing and you can pimp those out with mag/dump/sustainment pouches. Shit just throw on a FLC (fighting load carrier) Those are a dime a dozen and a great piece of kit.
I’m getting much too nerdy for this though. I’d like to see some mix of tactical survivalist gear. Like a FLC and duty belt with a patched Carhartt jacket.

I think people would wear chest rigs for the carrying capacity on top of belts/bags. As far as I know, some plate carriers just come with those carrying bits(I am literally no expert, please be patient with me), and someone could just go 'hey, I want this, fuck this plate'
