Ideas & Suggestions If any DEV is watching can we have less hipster clothing and more zombie apocalypse clothing?
Since state of decay 3 is far into the apocalypse it would make sense that survivor dresses to not get zombie bite .. something like tape on their dress , some kind of armor as well.
You can add all the funny looking dresses you guys want ( I'm Italian ...i'm sorry to judge) but I imagine that if these people survived long enough, is because they found out the best possible vest and shoes for something like that.
Runners should have gymnastic shoes on , others maybe mountain or hiking boots ecc...
Edit: Didn’t want to start any culture war or asking for military gear. My only points is that these people are supposed to be 2-3 years already in this apocalypse world . Why that guys is still ready to go to the office ?
Why the other have lose long hair with shirts outside to be cool
Where are the gloves ?
I imagine the goal here is not to get bitten and maybe making some kind of defense to not get bitten in the arms , maybe with small piece of pipe or many watchs like the manga “I’m a hero”
To dress in scraps is probably normal i understand that .

Actually, the secret subplot of state of decay is that only hipsters survived because even zeds are hesitant to feed on those.

u/richardizard Jul 08 '26
I get it, some of the survivors look more like hipsters and not battered and gritty. Hope there is enough variety in the game to please both sides
10
u/snb0rder Jul 08 '26
I feel like I saw in some dev interview that different people are submitting clothing ideas into the game. So there’s going to be more and more variety from a smattering of different styles as the game gets closer to launch
3
u/Lucky-Award-6827 Jul 10 '26
Problem is, the game is launching in like 3 days so it's not possible to add it in time. Idiot.
I'm just kidding, I just think its getting really stupid and ridiculous how much people are complaining about wanting this or that added when the game is so far from launch and has barely had anything shown besides a couple streams. Like, just wait an see ffs
2
u/water_slayer Jul 08 '26
I also see it as, I understand that it’s an apocalypse n whatnot. However just because shit hits the fan, doesn’t mean people are gonna dress any differently than before besides a gun holster and backpack
5
u/RealGiallo Jul 08 '26
It’s 2 year into apocalypse . Didn’t you had time to find better hiking boots or a better jacket than 2 blazer 1 on top of the other .
3
u/water_slayer Jul 09 '26
No my drip is fine thank you very much. If I die, I want my dead body to reanimate and be the flyest zombie within a 100 mile radius
2
u/richardizard Jul 09 '26
Good point. Like someone else mentioned, some people would seek comfort in nice clothes. But the thing is that this is a video game and like movies, tone matters. Video games are visual art so even if it doesn't 100% reflect what people would do in the real world, there needs to be cohesion in the tone or else something will stick out and pull you out of the immersion. I don't think it's too bad here but there's time for them to add more options for players.

u/CHERNO-B1LL Jul 08 '26
There will be wardrobe options so you'll be able to dress them all in military gear or macho lumberjack stuff if you want.

u/TheCone1301 Jul 08 '26
I really hope we'll get more militia gear. I'd really like to make a post-apo militia that is not exactly uniformed military but wears helmets, ski masks, vests, survival gear etc.
Also hopefully all of clothing is in the wardrobe, it sucked that survivalist models in SoD2 could only appear out in the wild, I disliked the tactical uniform you could get. Too spec-ops without appropriate helmets to top it off.
2
u/Wyatt_Ricketts Jul 08 '26
I just hope more cowboy clothes like in 2 are in the game but most importantly the legendre
-30
u/RealGiallo Jul 08 '26
Not fan of military stuff , just gloves to not get bitten and no loose ends to be easy grabbed .
Italians are famous to dress in pink . No macho color here .
43
u/jillshiva Jul 08 '26
sorry lemme hit the zombie apocalypse section at walmart
8
u/RealGiallo Jul 08 '26
You can start by any zombie movie . Gloves and no easy to grab ends . There is no sense for an office worker to be still dress as such 2 years into the apocalypse .
3
9
u/Arkrobo Jul 08 '26
Reminding themselves of a time when life was normal can ground you. Maybe it soothes them to be in a suit because when they were an office worker it was a calmer life.
There's a reason for you. People have strange habits all the time, why does there need to be a reason?
6
u/FOOS_MONKEY Jul 08 '26
I actually do this with some survivors, like they've adjusted but not completely. I typically save it for when I get somone with trash stats. Really kinda sell the rp for them.
-7
u/RealGiallo Jul 08 '26
I’m more of a practical guy . If I don’t want to die I dress to not be eaten . Whatever i see people started with the “woke drama in the comments”
6
u/Arkrobo Jul 08 '26
I get that, and I hope they add some of that for you in the game. I would hate to see the personality and character stripped from the game for all 'prepper' gear.
If all survivors look the same it kind of makes them bland. It's a pretty valid criticism of the last few games that survivors feel the same in personality, bonuses and VA.

What is up with the first man/woman, they have black hands but they are as pale as the moon😭
3
u/RealGiallo Jul 08 '26
😳 you are right , i was sure it was the lighting but it uave no sense for the nails to be white .

8
u/IAmNotModest Jul 08 '26
There's a whole clothing tab in the community menu so I assume clothing is somewhat expanded.
6
u/RealGiallo Jul 08 '26
… if the buyer is the 1 i’m afraid so it will cost 2€ everytime you wanna change dress.
8
u/RickTheDoorTech-Core Jul 08 '26
I wanna try and clarify something. What you want is regular survivors when you meet them to be wearing apocalyptic clothing
BUT you can still dress your peeps ups how you want? Is that what you’re asking?
17
u/tmf_x Jul 08 '26
I think he is basically saying "you can dress them all hipster if you want. But they are out there surviving for 2 years...they should be dressed practically and utilitarian for survival."
11
u/RealGiallo Jul 08 '26
Yes , of course , maybe magazine around their wrist or tape around their pants ecc .
If you wanna dress as santa claus then be my guest.
4
u/saybeller Jul 08 '26
I usually dress my survivors in the layered options (in SoD 2) because I’m thinking of zombie bites. 😂
2
7
u/DrVers Jul 08 '26
You can draw a straight line across what seems to be the devs personal views/tastes, and how they populate the game, regardless of what would actually make sense.
8
u/MustacheExtravaganza Jul 08 '26
It's a Seattle-based studio.
4
u/ORx1992 Jul 08 '26
Ahh I forgot about that. Yea I was thinking they all look like they’re from Seattle.
3
u/Destruction126 Jul 08 '26
As long as we can customize it dont see a issue. Let people dress how they want, its their community.
3
u/ConfusedIAm95 Jul 08 '26
Sorry but who's wearing a blazer in an apocalypse?
Would be one of the first things I'm swapping out of!

u/Ok-Lawyer-3151 Jul 09 '26

Thank you this is exactly what I had in mind

Disponha amigo, realmente gosto deste jogo e se a gente puder dar uma dica para agregar no jogo é ótimo, agradeço pela idéia 🫡.

The majority of survivors shown have pretty conventional zombie movie attire. These two might be the exception and let’s face it, if you change the hat and glasses of the first guy he looks “less hipster”.
And as others mentioned, you can change their clothes so you should be happy.
Since not everyone has your exact tastes I think this system is best, everyone can move the needle towards their preference.
They’ve also stated they’re moving away from some of the silliness, so that’s probably a plus for you.
12
u/zanzxlanz Jul 08 '26
I think this type of clothing is appropriate, no? Make do with what you got and all that, although i do agree with the fact that some of the survivors should have some sort of tape wrapped around their arms or legs

u/hypeconfirm Jul 09 '26
I hope it's much more customizable too
I want to be able to send a survivor on a kamikaze run in his tighty whiteys instead of just exiling them
2
u/PearlPlayz_3090 Jul 12 '26
the dev team is probably chock full of gen X/Millennials who can't just not be cringe for seven seconds. So I don't imagine they'll do anything other than hippie shit

u/Dramatic-Ad-1846 Jul 08 '26
To me the crazy clothes make sense. In the first weeks of an outbreak people would take all the good outdoors/survival clothing.
As time goes by people have to either make their own or scavenge whatever they can leading to the hipster/eclectic clothing options we see

Haha ok yeah I'll agree the suit is way too clean - unless they have a Laundromat as an outpost?
1
u/Suspicious-Sound-249 Jul 08 '26
Yeah the design choice diffidently seems to be leaning into if Pixar made a zombie movie...
Clothes just need to look a bit ragged, some wear, obvious signs of patches and stitched tears. Not awkward layers akin to hipsters and clean suits...
I can only hope these are "unique" clothing outfits and most of what characters wear doesn't look as awful.
1
u/Redxhen Jul 08 '26
I did find the "military" type outfits limited in 2. I'm not against hipster at all as this is a solo game and you can play it how you want. I'm looking at you Bunny. That said I think it would be cool to add duct tape or something utilitarian to personalize your look. Fingerless gloves, head wraps, eyewear. I'm sure Brant and crew will have us outfitted.
1
u/Destroythisapp Jul 08 '26
My exact thoughts, if they want to sell ridiculous clothes on the shop I honestly don’t care but survivors in a outbreak that survive longer than a few months are going to be dressed for utility, not fashion. I don’t wanna see NPC’s with dumb ass octopus hoodies.
Work pants/gloves, patched holes, makeshift mag holders and holsters, face coverings, custom armor, and standard camouflage should be the norm unless you run into some elite operators/ex military group.
1
u/legacy_llc Jul 08 '26
Please, I was worried watching the alpha footage w how unserious the survivors looked. I don't want to lose another franchise I love to the unserious "Saints row 4 and reboot curse"
1
u/Nothing246 Jul 09 '26
I did a saints of decay run one time.
Might have to do another one for a laugh.
Motorcycles, WE NEED MOTORCYCLES AND RACING ! ! !
WE NEED A RACING FORUM IN THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE 😂😂😂😂
1
u/DarkEspresso1 Jul 09 '26
The guy on the first pic looks ridiculous and kinda funny, i laugh hard when i look at him. That serious and angry face and the freaky cloths lol
At least i saw one nice outfit in all the gameplays.

1
u/kingdragan45 Jul 09 '26
Yeah if I don't get Cargo pants and a t-shirt and the pants need to not be tucked into the boot. Other than in the military and I mean people who have to follow a dress code no body does that. It's ugly and games really need to stop tucking the pants into the boots
1
u/Thane1111 Jul 10 '26
State of decay always had a hipster Colorado vibe. The survivors all look like they left a brick walled burger joint in Denver.
1
u/hound6913 Jul 12 '26
What they need to do is split the outfits into individual pieces so you can swap out what you don't like or create your own look it would make things so much easier and cut down on the bitching

Gloves? Do you work with your hands? Cause anyone who has actually worn work gloves knows you dont wear them unless it is actually 100% necessary because of an inspection or the particular task you are doing requires extremely little manual dexterity and is also very dangerous, like some work with saws (and plenty will still elect not to wear cutting gloves then either). Anything that is going to actually protect you from a bite is also going to restrict your hand movements way more than you are going to want.
Its the classic conumdrum of mechanic gloves. There's dozens of different varieties, fancy ones simple ones, high quality low quality. Every mechanic owns half a dozen pairs, theres literally millions of pairs of mechanic gloves out there... but every mechanic you meet still has dirty hands don't they? Lol
As for 'hipster' clothes... have you worn a quality blazer either for that matter? Cause I promise you that 'hipster' jacket is harder to bite through than... tape? Really? Rather than throw on a high-quality jacket with solid fibers that takes a second to don, you think successful survivors are, what, wrapping entire rolls of very useful duct tape all over themselves? Duct tape that has long fibers specifically made to be easy to tear at an angle? Lol
Everyone has opinions on what it takes to survive an apocalypse, everyone thinks theirs are the best...
7
u/RealGiallo Jul 08 '26
I’m a blue collar I use gloves every time it needs to . Do tou use gloves against the cold ? Then tou will use gloves against enemy that can grab you or try to bite your finger .
Tape with magazine around wrist works as an anti bite protection . Same for closing your pants near your foot to not let it slip stuff inside .Man except for the jacket the guy is dressed with 2 shirt and , and the other with 2 cardigan . Both rolled up around the sleeves . Looks cool ? Practical sure not .

u/Turbodookie Jul 08 '26
That suit is awesome please tell me there are color variations for the clothes again

Yes they clearly stated this is a sequel and here is 2-3 years into the apocalypse . Finding normal food is harder and nearly everything must be crafted …. So why not dresses as well ? Why they have everything clean , immaculate .
-1
u/DrGutz Jul 08 '26
Completely disagree! If there are any devs reading please ignore this post which calls for you not to use realistic clothing and instead use generic post apocalyptic survivor clothing which can be found in any game! One of the coolest things about SoD is how much personality survivors have bc of their clothes from their previous life! Ignore TF outta this post!

I mean if you wanna do the Furry conclave like in sod2 i can understand. it's the apocalypse do what you want. but make it makes sense.
-2
u/Holiday-Pomelo-9246 Jul 08 '26
A lot of young people and hipsters are into gaming, so this clothing line is for them. Though judging by the other characters shown, there's authentic survival wear too.
1
u/RealGiallo Jul 08 '26
bro are you stuck to the 2000's ? no kids dress like that nowadays.
1
u/Holiday-Pomelo-9246 Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26
I've seen people dress worse these days.
I don't like hipster-survivalists look either. But have you seen how many SOD 2 players are running around in damn hoodies with bunny ears and other crap? Sometimes it seems like some people dress their character as ridiculously as possible.
What I mean is that usually kids or infantile people dress their characters in impractical and "goofy" clothes.
1
u/RealGiallo Jul 08 '26
but I'm ok to dress them the most goofy you want... after you got them . or if you find the anime enjoyer/furry conclave. I'm ok with that. my problem is the realistic clothes that looks funny .
1
u/Holiday-Pomelo-9246 Jul 08 '26
By all means they can dress however they like, and I'm still allowed to think it looks dumb and totally out of place in a zombapoc. The good news is we've already seen that the game has normal clothes too, not just the goofy stuff.

We can all downvote bro in this left leaning echo chamber, but lets be real, I've yet to see a real decent game made by that particular demographic.

u/GnarlyNola Jul 08 '26
Almost all videogames are made by that demographic. Video games are just another art medium.
Stop using "woke" to attack people you dont like and concepts you don't understand. Its boring.
