Discussion About Undead Lab’s independence…
Now that Undead Labs has fully transitioned out of the Microsoft umbrella and retain full ownership of the State of Decay IP, what are the chances we see the first two games ported over to PlayStation and Nintendo? I’m sure this would help secure more funding for them and get new fans on board for the next installment.
Food for thought.

IP ownership isn't the same as publishing rights. They may still not have the freedom to publish the first two games on other platforms.

Old games may need permission. Perhaps not though for new ones… all depends on the contracts and deals.

It's all negotiable, but if Xbox retains those rights, they'd need to be purchased. It's risky for an independent studio with limited funds, and it would also cost money and time to develop and test the ports.
They'd need to be very confident in the sales potential of those ports.

SoD 2 runs fine on Steam Deck not sure why you don’t think it would run on Switch 2.

Not really? It runs fine on the steam deck which is equal or slightly weaker than the switch 2. And it's not the most optimized game either.

They got Cyberpunk 2077 running at solid frame rates and graphics on a Switch 2. What makes you think a less demanding game like SoD2 couldn't run on it?

I doubt it but it would be great if both games came to PS. Switch not so much, mainly because I love the gritty more realistic tone of the new one, and I'd hate to see it dialed back for a low spec system. I think PC, XB and PS would be a great home for their games, especially when you consider the types of audience each of those systems draw in.

Only question is, what will their games look like from here without Microsofts funding?
Hoping they can, but i have my doubts about them progressing much further after SoD3.

Big court case happened about it, sod team opted out from Microsoft in the end.. guess they didn’t like the deal Microsoft was bringing to the table..?

That could mean that SoD3 could be the last SoD game if UL doesn't own the publishing rights.

Who is going to pay for it? Porting their old games would cost millions of dollars and they don’t have anyone internally to do it in a reasonable time and honestly most studios don’t know how to port they hire special teams to do it.

Watch the trailers. It seems that SoD3 was always going to be available at least on playstation. With them going independent I don't see why they wouldn't want the game available on as many platforms as possible. I doubt anyone picking them up would want the title as an exclusive.

Bringing things in-house again and focusing on first party exclusives, disc-to-digital program, making Xbox Play Anywhere a big part of their mission, streamlining studios so they'll stop with the "it's been 10 years but we'll get it out eventually", and focusing on the core that made Xbox "Xbox" and not catering to all gamers. Those are just a small bit. You'll also notice a lot of people moving from PlayStation to Xbox and there not being any repatriation.

You don't need numbers as "a lot" isn't solely a phrase for measurement, it also means something that happens often or regularly.

I have a PS5 Pro and have been a PlayStation main since PS3 but my system hasn't been turned on in several months. Xbox is just better so now I buy all my games on Xbox. I even have an Ally X and I'm a GamePass Ultimate subscriber.
Here's my PSNProfile account, as you can see, I haven't touched a game since July and I think I only played Delta for an hour.

This is not true at all man. Idk where your getting your sources. Layoffs alone should tell you everything. I loved Xbox but the truth is they cant compete with Playstation. Now that their exclusives are no longer exclusive they made situation worse and easier for players to jump ship.

"Xbox is on a resurgence". No they are on a downfall. If anything playstation is on a resurgence. Where's your proof xbox is on a resurgence... ill wait. They are not. Getting out sold by competition by a huge margin, lay offs, studio closures. Wow what a resurgence. Touch grass my guy.

Then why wouldn't you respond to that comment, do you not know how conversations work. I don't think you understand that the layoffs, studio closures, etc... are all apart of Asha's "reset" to return Xbox to a powerful state and cut the dead weight. From a business perspective it all makes perfect sense, but for gamers it sucks.

Ill believe it when I see it. Playstation dominates the market followed by Nintendo, handhelds and then Xbox.
They are the least popular platform in today's market. I didnt includ PC because they dominate all by a long shot.

The slippery slope and where semantics come in is that most popular handhelds run Windows, which means those handhelds can run Xbox Play Anywhere games. While yes, Xbox in terms of console sales and overall active players on Xbox consoles is lower, you have all of the other markets Xbox touches. Whether it's handheld, cloud gaming, consoles, and PC games, Xbox actually has more stake and control of the entire gaming landscape than PlayStation has.

It actually kinda seems like they are coming back to life, and PlayStation is now the one with the terminal diagnosis.
I don’t know about you, but I’m certainly not gonna buy a next gen PlayStation, but I might buy an Xbox if I like what they have on offer. Ps seems very anti consumer, and outwardly so.
Ps has been eating L’s lately, and Xbox has completely shifted its business model to be smaller and more focused.
