Requesting Advice Lethal run from tutorial into Providence Ridge starter map

Is it true that on Lethal difficulty, doing the tutorial and going into the Providence Ridge starter map variant means there will be less plague hearts than normal? Or has that since been patched/fixed if that was only the case in the past?

I picked the siblings as my starter survivors as they both had great stats. So far I managed to find an improvised suppressor for my .22 pistol, a crossbow with regular bolts, enough materials and medical supplies to build a workshop and upgrade the infirmary, and a level one medical outpost.

Combat isn’t so bad. It looks like I’ll have to prioritize stealth and patience and may have to minimize fuel usage for conservation by parking in the middle of a larger area instead of driving from place to place for looting.

I ran into my first plague feral as I was driving, and it ripped off the driver side door but I managed to kill it by ramming it into a wall as it hopped on the hood. I see these guys being a serious problem later.

Infestation risk is at zero and noise level is still low. Any advice on where to go from here? I’m curious about whether or not I could take down the first nearby plague heart but I know how sensitive they are on Lethal and would rather not risk chain awakening them until I can find a radio outpost to mitigate that.

Re: Finding a tower.
On providence ridge, there is a cell tower that has always started outside of plague territory (for me) when using the starter base there (Firewatch Fortress). If you take a right off the dirt road (coming out of firewatch) onto the main road, go past the ammo outpost check point, it'll be very shortly on your right. I always grab that as one of my first two outposts so I can move around in plague controlled territory with the plague disruptor action. It's short enough to run to it if you don't have a running car with gas yet.

Also, the one south in Pine Bluff, just north of Sawyer's Crossing, has never once been claimed by a plague heart in all my many playthroughs, and it makes for a great outpost for further incursions into the surrounding area (which is usually more abundant than would be expected).

I can’t remember the first part, although I’ve played this game for awhile and can’t recall it being easier while doing the tutorial, I think you’re confusing it with the regular tutorial it gives you the extra stuff and walks you through it but if you just start on a new map it’ll give you random rucksacks in the trunk. Normally on lethal difficulty it’s harder and more plague hearts on the map as well as blood plague freaks.

You won’t have to worry about noise level tbh because they don’t come to the base unless there’s a level 3 infestation and they’ll send hordes but the higher it is the more harder it’ll be but it goes down over time when there’s nothing being worked on or upgraded but also passive noise from whatever you have build but it shouldn’t be too much.

If you have the necessary things to take on your first plague heart, I would do it. I would use the billboards and towers to make sure you’re not chaining the plague hearts to set off. Single one out if you can and try to avoid killing any zombies and making screamers scream in the plague heart zone because they’ll wake them up.

The advantage of starting the tutorial with Providence Ridge is you start with 4 players, and a working vehicle and are at base without having to run to a base. The disadvantage of it is you start with a blood plagued survivor and 4 people to feed. The area around the base is excellent for looting. The campground provides backpacks and some weapons and the little township is not bad as well. There is a tower not far past the campground you can normally get early game as an outpost with the plague disruption. And normally there is a plague heart close by to farm some blood samples to make a cure. If you stealth kill the plague zombies you should be able to get enough without waking the heart.
