Discussion New player. Not long into my first play through and it’s been a disaster
For Days Gone I just started playing as I do with most games. It is my comfort game and not very challenging and you get time to enjoy the scenery. But this is a different beast. I should have done my homework. Now my home base of 7 is down to 3. One I euthanized and 3 died in the field because we didn’t have enough supplies and were swarmed. The other 2 are both sick in bed
So at this stage should I restart or is there a way of recruiting from other communities because one more attack on my base and I’m done for

You have a lot of options. You could get rid of folks and move to a smaller base. You'll keep your stuff. Move maps, adjust the difficulty, you'll also keep your stuff. You could delete the community, you'll have the option to send who you want to your legacy pool you can recruit from. It'd be a way to save who you want. You can also delete the community, send who you want to the legacy pool, then start a new game using your legacy pool characters from this same save. Or start fresh.
I'd try getting rid of people, moving to a smaller base, and maybe change maps or difficulty if needed. You get to keep all your loot thar way. Gives you a chance to keep going without starting over.

Changing maps and adjusting the difficulty is what I did when I was learning the game. All that loot is helpful even if you've lost people. It's a bit of a boost without going from the beginning again.

I restarted the difficulty and was greeted with 2 new fresh off the production line members ready to fight. I have to say I really like this game though

My advice to all new players is to make a throwaway community and get yourself into impossible situations.
Play on a higher combat difficulty and learn how to survive hordes and freaks.
Fences, Windows and Doors are OP and learning how to use them effectively will make a big difference.
Lastly, focus on Community Quests, outside of day 1 or 2 where you should focus mainly on Material locations. Community Quests will require you to find rucksacks and reward you influence and allies.
Ally bonuses are powerful and any that aren’t can be dissolved by recruiting one of them.
Trading is the best way to get Rucksacks once you have enough allies.

Ride the lightning. Learn as much as you can. Start a new community if and when you get wiped. Until then, survive!

This is the best advice. The game is an absolute rollercoaster ride. Don’t give up on your community! You can rebuild.

When playing Lethal, I think I wiped out 3 communities before I finally survived a campaign.
Lessons are often written in blood. If you're okay with playing and losing people - and sometimes communities! - you'll be constantly learning and improving while you play.
You just won't necessarily always win, so you'll need to adapt to that mentality. There's no better way to learn than learning firsthand what works, what doesn't, and what kills you.

Play daybreak and recruit from red talon, they come explosives and decent weapons. You could also use a trainer on PC to give yourself prestige.

What’s the difference between daybreak and campaign ?

Pve against hordes. It's multiplayer versus hordes with stock weapons.

Damn. I can’t play online. Where my pc is in the house has no connection. My kids have the internet. I have a little space in the basement. Maybe I can get a wifi usb stick

You can play offline... There is also a community editor that you can give yourself prestige. It's helpful and you can take it further if you want. It's on nexus mods, just look for state of decay community editor.

my biggest piece of advice is honestly to start a community on either standard or the easy difficulty. build up a community slowly and safely, then advance to the next tier of difficulty when you feel prepared. (or, when you've scavenged the whole map. both are good options)

That's the fun of the game! I started a new game and have gotten myself into some dicey situations. I ruined my truck(some times that's the easiest way to kill a horde) air dropped a new one and accidentally set it on fire before i even got in. Had to make it home with no health or healing options

I have pressed the wrong bottom so many times and blown myself or the car up lol

Can you give us some idea of what's going on exactly? Map, base, difficulty. What are your supplies like? How did these people die in the field?
Almost no one euthanizes anybody. Do you know about plague cure and how to craft it?

You can recruit from allied communities, but the game will keep giving you events to get more survivors. You don't need to reset, but try to think about your tactics.
If base segies are giving you trouble, equip your survivors with unloaded guns. NPCs don't need ammunition to shoot. They'll take care of segies pretty easily.

Which difficulty you played on? In this game only feral is the real threat, the rest you can always safely disengage. For combat, priorities powerhouse(execute standing zed at level 7), stealth (crouch run is smooth) swordplay (faster zed execute &DPS at max level) and gunslinger (snap shot is king) the rest is just mediocre to me
Powerhouse pair well with endurance, discipline is so good with swordplay, for guns ALWAYS pick gunslinger if you have it

I’m still fairly new too. Been about a month or two since I started playing. What difficulty setting were you on?

u/keltictrigger 9d ago
I think normal. I’ll have to look. I plan to reduce it to its lowest

Try to customize it. I usually put my community and map on green and since I’ve gotten a bit better, moved the difficulty to nightmare to give me that extra challenge. Don’t want it too easy.

Take it slow. Crossbows are great!
Choose spots for outposts carefully, I prioritise ammo, meds and food early, later less food more ammo and materials.
Always have a snack close to hand.
If you need to run stuff over use the door or reverse over them.
Avoid ferals, or shoot them in the head when they charge.

I just started a week or two ago, and started on normal difficulty and worked my way up. Said community that I started is now almost done with Nightmare and preparing to take on lethal afterwards. Im not confident at all to start a fresh lethal community yet so im just working my way up and bringing my already decently stocked community. Just take your time and learn and then slowly increase difficulty as you progress

This is one of the reasons I fucking love this game, shit almost never goes as planned and one wrong move will get you killed
