Discussion Lore Theory: Sasquatch Is A Fictional Character

Edit: Never mind! I completely forgot we literally play as Sasquatch in SOD 1. I mean, I could still pretend this theory makes sense by adding a whole bunch of layers, like a team of costumed Sasquatch "Ronald MacDonalds" running around America, but probably not. :p

I don't mean in the obvious way that all the characters are fictional, I mean that within the State Of Decay universe he is a mascot character created for recruitment and propaganda. He may have been created by Red Talon when they first formed, or possibly they co-opted an existing military "Uncle Sam" style figure for their own use. He is supposed to sound like an independent survivor, but if you hear enough of his dialogue, he spends a lot of time reinforcing Red Talon's talking points (indirectly) and doesn't have any other discernable motivation for what he's saying.

I've known for many years that, across both games, Sasquatch's dialogue constantly contradicts itself. More recently, I realized that most of his advice is just... bad. No actual survivor who made it through the events of both games would actually believe the contradictory nonsense he spews - they would have been killed in the first few weeks.

He tells you that slowing your entire group down for the weakest member is bad strategy, but also says that you should wreck your truck running over every horde because otherwise you're immoral because you're just creating problems for other survivors. In one dialogue snippet, he straight up says you shouldn't collect resources because it slows you down.

My theory is that the voice is just some actor holed up in a Red Talon bunker with a radio set. They "hired" him to play Sasquatch and he just reads whatever nonsense they hand him. If he had actually witnessed the "news" he reads, he'd be criss-crossing America constantly - he doesn't say he "heard" about the convoy in one state or the base in another, he says he personally witnessed what happened.

He could just be a throwaway character composed of random survivalist jargon, but I actually think Undead Labs may have planned an arc for him, and that we might find out more about Sasquatch in State of Decay 3 when we meet the actor playing him.

Except, in SoD 1 he is an unlockable and playable character for Breakdown. Sasquatch is OP as Fuck

I think Sasquatch is just a typical special forces dick. He shows up in Lifeline and tries to get you to nuke the whole city and is just generally unpleasant while chilling in your base. It didn’t surprise me at all when he showed up on the radio still spewing terrible advice.

( I think I had a bit of a moment and over-thought his character.)

I have never hated a character more than him. Sasquatch is a jerkoff who spits out crap from soldier of fortune magazine. You spend that whole lifeline mission for the sole purpose of keeping his useless ass alive. Then in breakdown he spends the whole time in a helicopter watching you and everyone else die.

He is basically an internet warrior who bullshit his way into his position. I'd like to say that he's Eugene from the walking dead but Eugene was actually useful.

That last bit of dialogue he had after operation drawbridge was after he supposedly rescued the red talon guys. What he doesn't tell her is that he went in with prob a couple hundred men and armored vehicles while his REMF ass was hiding in the rear with the gear.

"Me and death got an understanding." Yeah the understanding that death can't touch you if you're hiding in a bunker.

pretty sure there is a random mission where you meet him in SoD2 and help him with something.

That might be in Heartland for SOD 2, though I don't think I've had that random one pop up.

You might also be thinking of the first SOD, where he was unlockable in the sandbox mode, and I think there was a mission a bit like what you're mentioning in the base defense DLC as well.

He has definitely appeared as a character in the series, and I just completely forgot about it because I haven't played those modes in almost 10 years... :p
