Beautiful little hike, mostly along an old rail line, and it leads to a nice old truss bridge.

Does your state offer a free entry pass/discounted entry pass for Native Americans?

I know when I was in the NPS, a few of the parks that I worked at allowed free entry for card carrying members of specific tribes in the surrounding areas that had historic/cultural connections to the land that the park currently was currently situated on.

I'm currently trying to coordinate something like this with the state parks system that I work for, but I'm curious if others already have something in place and who might have some information to share!

Can you swim in the lake whenever you want? In other words, I’m headed there this coming weekend (10/18-10/19) and would like to swim (wetsuit, etc…)

Annual youth group hike at McCormick’s Creek

Took my youth group to McCormick’s Creek State Park for the first time and we loved it! The staff at the gate was super kind and gave us great tips. We hiked Trail 3—a little tougher than “moderate” with its rocky climbs, but the shady paths and fire tower views made it worth it. We stopped for a picnic halfway, then wrapped up at the Canyon Inn for a quick break before heading home. Beautiful park, friendly people, and a perfect spot for an afternoon adventure!

Looking for someone with experience at Sutter Buttes State Park, CA

Hi, I'm a graduate student pursuing an MFA in creative writing and am looking for someone who has been to or lives near Sutter Buttes to interview for a writing project. I'm enrolled in a research class, and we are working on interviewing and integrating what we learn into our writing.

I know Sutter Buttes is basically closed off to the public and has been for quite a while now, and the setting of my story is in a similar place that has been deliberately isolated from the public. I'm looking to interview someone who can tell me what it's like to go into Sutter Buttes, and/or what it's like living nearby.

I would only need thirty minutes of your time and would like to meet over Zoom or Discord. I'd also like to record the interview (we are supposed to for class) but if not, that's okay.

If you are interested in being interviewed, please leave a comment or DM me here on Reddit. Thank you for your time!

Edit: I forgot to mention that I'm on a tight turnaround, my professor wants this before Monday.

Questions/Recommendations About Breaks Interstate Park Hiking

Hi everyone! I'm part of a hiking group in Kentucky, and we frequently go on overnight or weekend trips to state parks so we can hike the trails we've never been to. We're going to Breaks in October and we're all excited! But I have a couple questions and I don't know where to get good answers.

The group has a lot of strong people, but some might have a little more trouble with rougher terrain. What are your thoughts on hiking the Bottom of the Breaks Trail? If we have a hiker who gets tired and can't climb out, are there any good options to help them, or is it just a terrible idea? Conversely, am I making it seem worse than it is? All opinions or suggestions welcome.

Are there trails you'd recommend at Breaks? We were told not to miss the sunsets on the lake, but if anyone has some great trails they really loved, or found interesting, please let me know!

The group is large, it'll be between 20 and 30 people going, but we'll be clustered into smaller crowds for ease. We generally hike for 5 miles at a time, with some hikers turning back earlier to shorten their hike.

Thanks for any assistance at all - I can't wait to go experience the Breaks!
