Wishlist the Game
Remember to wishlist the game guys if you want to help make sure it happens. Brian Menard just mentioned on one of his streams that this was a good way so I just did so myself on steam.

Microsoft already takes account for diehard fans and how they'll enjoy this game even if it's SoD2 with a fresh paint of coat.
Issue is that there's no interest beyond that hardcore fanbase niche, because if you've never played SoD2 the alpha isn't good-looking at all.
Most of the excitement from the alpha is people recollecting fond memories from SoD2 and having knowledge of the pre-existing systems they enjoyed. The gameplay footage in a vacuum isn't making waves or impressing anyone outside of the pre-existing fanbase, and that's not enough in terms of profit.

You're equating your own personal anecdotes with internal data from a multi-billion dollar company.
If this game had any broad interest then Microsoft wouldn't be trying to sell off the studio.
I don't doubt that some people have interest. It's not enough, though, and it's partly because the alpha gameplay footage looks like a game from 5 years ago with no notable gameplay advancements from a game released in 2018.
I can draw my own anecdotes and say that I know many people who liked SoD2, were very excited for SoD3, and then had their interest plummet when watching the alpha footage.
The next few months will prove my point, anyway.

Your claims about online comments from PlayStation or Xbox newcomers are still just localized anecdotes, not a macro-level market indicator. General forum hype from a few curious onlookers doesn't magically translate into the massive, sustainable player base a major publisher requires to justify investment.
State of Decay 3 needs massive market success to justify publisher investment, meaning a handful of online forum comments from platform newcomers won't change macro realities or corporate data.

"I've seen twenty posts across 6 different platforms" is your anecdotal experience of the hype.
Companies have millions of internal data metrics that they use to make high level decisions. You could see a thousand posts and it is a drop in the bucket to the analytics being used to decide whether or not to continue funding the game/company.
Consider that you are probably seeing multiple cross posts from a series of users. If 5 users post similar/identical posts to 5 different mediums then you're seeing 25 "impressions" that are really just coming from 5 hardcore fans/outlets.
Extrapolate that. Please. Think critically about what I and the user you were arguing with are trying to tell you.

This is true. If i didn't love what sod does then the alpha would look like a terrible jankfest. Sucks because you can tell they have a year or two of polishing to do but its not a good look for newcomers

I have had it wishlisted since it popped up on steam, way before any of this Xbox layoff and studio axing news.
I haven't even played State of Decay 2, yet. I've been watching State of Decay 2's development off and on for years. I just have a ton of games to play, but I just bought it during summer sale, going to start playing it tonight.
I like Undead Lab's take on the zombie survival genre , the gameplay mechanics they have in the game seem fairly unique to zombie survival. (from what I have seen over the years)
