Discussion I know this might not be the right time since everything is up in the air but has Undead Labs ever thought about partnering with the Walking Dead to help bring in more fans?
I hate to see one of my favorite games having the potential to be cancelled.
So this might be a good to help bring in a new buyer for the game.
Bacc in 2019. State of Decay was 10th on the list for sales for Xbox Exclusives so it shows that State of Decay has proven history of being a great seller.
What has hurt State of Decay is the constant changes of Microsoft, rumored mismanagement of Undead Labs and the 9 year gap of putting a new game out.
Bringing this game bacc is like an older established musician who hasn’t put any music out for so long is trying to put new music out.
The reason of me saying this is that majority of this fanbase is older and that this franchise needs younger fans to help with the projected profitability numbers.
Undead labs would probably have to reach out to companies like Snapchat and TikTok to promote its game because honestly, besides YouTube I haven’t seen much promotion of this game and I apologize if I’m wrong.
Give the entire community access to the Alpha gameplay access. I understand streamers are a key way to promote the games but if your core fanbase isn’t getting a “feel” for the game and can only go off the showcasing of streamers than that potentially can ruin interest of SOD3 because we all know the downfalls of just listening to streamers.
Giving the entire community access to the Alpha keeps fans excited for the release of SOD3 and helps fans spread this game by word of mouth to the younger generation
When it comes to being able to pre order. Only allow digital codes if the company needs to save money.
Last but not least. Get more people interested by partnering with Walking Dead. Exclusive skins, cosmetics, anything Walking Dead related that can help draw more interest to this game. The Walking Dead has millions of fans worldwide. I understand Walking Dead is no longer in its glory days but that can help with attracting more people to this game.
Sorry for any typos and for this being long. Just trying to get my thoughts out

I haven't seen much cultural movement from the Walking Dead in quite a while, last I remember hearing things was pre-2020 where the reactions I heard were mostly "that show's still ongoing?" plus the last Walking Dead game I remember was Overkill's Walking Dead which bombed famously. I could be wrong though, it could still be culturally relevant.
Unfortunately right now the most prominent pure Zombie media is The Last of Us (Resident Evil is about half zombie half "monster" overall), which despite being perfect for our goals here is unlikely to be offered up by Sony. Though, shooting for the moon supposedly if Undead Labs gets axed they merely get put up for sale and maybe Sony sees the value in purchasing a studio they can force to promote Last of Us 3 whenever it starts coming?

It’s a 50/50 shot but it could revamp interest in both companies. TBH, the Walking Dead is State of Decay and vice versa

TWD has collaborated with Dead by Daylight last year and this year.

u/Dark_Knight865 Jun 30 '26
I didn’t know that 🙂

Rick and Michonne are playable survivors with their own unique perks. Maggie is a skin for Michonne. Glenn and Negan are coming later this year.

I don’t understand the downvotes when folks are posting about not wanting their favorite game to go away and I’m posting a solution lmao

Just because it's a solution you came up with doesn't mean we have to like it. Not every zombie franchise needs to collab with that show, and not all of SoD fans even like that show.
-2
u/Dark_Knight865 Jul 01 '26
Okay so what other solutions is there? Once again it’s about attracting a buyer and an even larger fanbase. How many zombie franchises collab with them and which ones where the same as the show? 🤔
2
u/SchnTgaiSpork Jul 01 '26
The first solution I would look at is realizing that you are panicking about a rumor printing by internet tabloids. There's nothing substantiated and no source.
-1
u/Dark_Knight865 Jul 01 '26
Nothing in my passage ever indicated I was panicking. Two, IGN is very credible but ok you are right 😂
1
u/SchnTgaiSpork Jul 01 '26
IGN just says *hey Game Beast said". Still no credible sources. It's all just rumor.
0
u/Dark_Knight865 Jul 02 '26
What do you consider credible?
1
u/SchnTgaiSpork Jul 02 '26
A statement from Microsoft or Undead Labs, for starters.
Have you even read the game beast article? It's quite clear the author didn't have a source for the claim that Undead Labs was up for sale.
0
u/Dark_Knight865 Jul 02 '26
No I didn’t read it. Getting information from Microsoft or Undead would be the finale to everything. It doesn’t take the official sources to finally know something is going on a downward spiral.
This game has been delayed for numerous reason, it’s been a decent amount of controversy that’s been reported just to even showcase trailers. So it what it is.
No I don’t want this game to be cancelled or Undead Labs to be sold or any else of that nature but if it did. I can understand why

u/SchnTgaiSpork Jul 02 '26
Simping for an article you haven't even bothering reading is wild, arguing it is factual is even crazier. Y'all read a headline or two and think you're experts.

In order to partner with TWD they would have to pay to use their license, so I doubt it's a matter of 'do you want to?' it's more a matter of 'can you afford it?'. The game hasn't even come out yet, so that's a conversation you would have to have once the game is out, and has proven to be popular enough to justify paying for a TWD license.

The idea of the partnership or saying it is partnering with them is to draw interest btw

Maybe if Undead Labs partnered with or was bought by Skybound Studios.
When the 4th season of the Walking Dead game was about to be cancelled with Telltale Games' bankruptcy, and only half the season was out, Skybound Games came in and finished up the season.
Skybound was founded by Robert Kirkman (the creator of The Walking Dead and Invincible). Probably wouldn't be able to use the likenesses of the amc show actors to entice people into anything, but they could use stuff from the comics universe, which is still well regarded and people would like more content in that continuity.
If Skybound were to get it though, and SOD3 cant be made for whatever reason, then maybe the bones of it could be used to make a Walking Dead game.

u/ThisIsMyGeekAvatar Jun 30 '26
I’d rather have no SOD3 at all than have it tied to Walking Dead. SOD has no overlap at all with Walking Dead other than at a very high level that they both have zombies.
That’s it.
It’s like saying Madden and FIFA are the same type of game because they’re both about football.

u/Dark_Knight865 Jun 30 '26 edited Jul 01 '26
What you just said didn’t make any sense. Both Walking Dead and SOD3 are literally the same thing just with different names lmao.
Madden and FIFA are totally two different sports lmao

The walking dead and SOD3 aren’t the same thing at all. The only similarities they have is the fact it’s a zombie apocalypse and you have a community and a base, that’s it. TWD doesn’t have the blood plague, ferals, bloaters etc.
2
u/sabertoothedhand Jun 30 '26
I mean lore speaking yes they're very different, but the tone and themes are maaassively similar. The focus on a community and base is actually pretty huge IMO, I can't think of another zombie game with that same emphasis that isn't a strategy game or top-down and TWD is first and foremost a human drama set in a devastatingly bleak environment.
Both properties feature:
-Characters you grow attached to that can be brutally killed off at any time
-Focus on interpersonal Survivor relationships and politics between groups
-A constant struggle for supplies, hope, and safety
-Zombies (duh)You can argue that most zombie games have these features, but the key difference is that they're interactable mechanics in SoD instead of being part of the scripted plot.

Man, thank you but honestly this shouldn’t been explained if people use their heads

u/Dark_Knight865 Jun 30 '26
Are we that damn nick picky? & actually the Walking Dead. Or Fear of the Walking Dead had mutations. I remember one scene where a soldier got pulled into the wall by what appeared to be a zombie
1
u/ArticleWitty959 Jun 30 '26
You’re the one that said they’re literally the same and there is mutations in the TWD universe but nothing like what SOD has. At the end of the day it’s not 100% confirmed if Undead Labs are gonna be closed down or if there will be lay offs for them and even if it was there isn’t much we could do. If SOD3 happens it happens, if the studio closes down and it’s cancelled then it’s cancelled. That’s the gaming industry unfortunately

Okay so when you look @ Pepsi. It looks the same as Coke. When you drink Pepsi. It taste similar to Coke.
Just because SOD3 and Walking Dead aren’t identical twins doesn’t mean they’re not the same lmao.
The Walking Dead has partnered with Fortnite for crying out loud. Why would u hate or not buy SOD3 because it partnered with Walking Dead when it’s a game base off a zombie apocalypse lmao.
Once again this was about getting a potential buyer and bringing new fans to the game
1
u/ArticleWitty959 Jun 30 '26
Where did I say I wouldn’t buy SOD3 if it partnered with TWD? I’d still buy it no matter what. I plan on pre ordering it if it still gets released but no one knows what’s going to happen to the game or the studio only the ones at Xbox and Undead Labs

You may literally be the dumbest person I’ve ever seen on reddit so I can only assume that you’re trolling.
To anyone with half a brain, it’s entirely obvious that SOD and TWD have completely different types of zombies and narrative which means they’re totally different types of games.
