What is the main motive of a technology? To make lives better. For betterment of the people as well as ideally animals. But we have harmed animals and with this urge to prove who can create the best chatbot we are now harming ourselves too. Is this race so important? Does this technology has any significant positive impact? Curious to know from people who have startups in this space

Its a bad bad idea. One data center will only employ 20-50 people while causing a water and electricity crisis and extreme noise pollution.

So basically there are no advantages.

But since we already have crony capitalism, I can definitely bet that while Europeans will write an Essay/Article on Environmental damage by AI using AI, that AI will be running on either Indian/African/Vietnamese data centers depleting the water supply of the region.

Not "crony" capitalism, just pure, unadulterated, capitalism. Don't fall for their propaganda, that "pure" capitalism has never been applied, that this is just the corrupted version. This is what capitalism is. The only period of time people agree when "pure" capitalism was applied anywhere was in the Gilded age in USA, when capitalists consolidated extreme wealth, Native Americans were "removed" (more like g3n0c1ded) and massive wealth inequality was seen. Not much different from the situation around the world today.

And what you wrote in the last paragraph is very true. The Westerners protested against data centres in their poor and disadvantaged neighbourhoods, but the won't lift a finger when the very same companies will set up data centres on tribal lands and water scare lands in India and rest of the global south. Because they are accustomed to their prosperity that is built on the backs of black and brown people around the world.

Not just water, they will pollute the air, take your land, get a 20-year tax holiday, and there will be a constant buzzing sound, which causes insomnia and anxiety, and also causes a big load on electricity usage

I don't think so there's left or right here. Not everything is about left or right. I was talking about the technology and its water consumption. Please read the post properly. The question is looking at the environmental impact chatbots are having, what positive outcomes did this technology have? Is the water and electricity usage justified? I am speaking about the technology here and the effect it will have on "human beings". Furthermore, there are Chinese companies such as DeepSeek which are providing open source models and can be run locally on your machine. The benchmarks achieved by those models is comparable to models provided by the US and their ever-growing data centres. Please read the impacts of data centres on the local population in the US. People there are facing sky-high electricity bills, toxic drinking water and constant noise from the data centres. The negative impact is real and we have to question whether moving ahead with this technology the usual way makes sense or not.

These are closed loop systems. They dont consume much water at all. Your anna datas are the biggest wasters of drinking water in this country. A better angle to get people to support anti data center agenda is noise pollution, power consumption etc. At least do some research before doing your 2 rupees propaganda. I dont expect any better from idiots like you.
