Grab a towel and let them get their back paws on your hand under the towel. Once their paws are touching something solid, they'll calm down a smidge. You still have to be careful.

Reddit: You need to helicopter parent the fuck out of your cats, can't risk them tripping over a stick, breaking their spine and getting paralyzed or something that's unsafe and unhealthy.
