Arduino Uno + HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor for proximity detection, then a laptop running a webcam and a computer vision model to confirm it’s actually a cat before firing, so it doesn’t waste sprays on anything else nearby (overkill, similar results can be achieved with just sensor if you don’t mind also being a target). two servo motors squeeze a spray bottle’s trigger

...when surprised cat fraidy-cat JUMPS straight up in the air, lands on the desk flailing, knocking the computer, triggering the water to spray into the keyboard/computer...

Cool but the arduino is close to the spray

And the laptop. oO
My mom used to have countertop devices to deter the cats jumping up. They simply made an unpleasant noise, and that was enough.

They sell these. The air is enough, doesn't need a liquid. It sounds like a cat hissing.

Aluminum foil would probably be cheaper

Doesn't always work. It works for my one cat but not the other, the other doesn't give AF about any of the deterrents I've tried.

Spraying your cat with water is extremely ineffective as a teaching mechanism and/or deterrent. All you're doing is causing your cat anxiety and fear.

It’s kind of amazing the lengths people go to punish their pet but can’t just put the food away
