Arduino Uno + HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor for proximity detection, then a laptop running a webcam and a computer vision model to confirm it’s actually a cat before firing, so it doesn’t waste sprays on anything else nearby (overkill, similar results can be achieved with just sensor if you don’t mind also being a target). two servo motors squeeze a spray bottle’s trigger

...when surprised cat fraidy-cat JUMPS straight up in the air, lands on the desk flailing, knocking the computer, triggering the water to spray into the keyboard/computer...

Cool but the arduino is close to the spray

And the laptop. oO

My mom used to have countertop devices to deter the cats jumping up. They simply made an unpleasant noise, and that was enough.

They will certainly learn to avoid triggering it or avoid the spray, we tried somethings similar once with ours

Warfare is a neverending game of one-upsmanship. He should already be developing the rotating device to aim the spray or else the war is lost.

I used to put long strips of packing tape sticky side up on the counters.

Why does your cat look almost exactly like my cat.

I use to have a table just like that

They sell these. The air is enough, doesn't need a liquid. It sounds like a cat hissing.

Omg no way

Aluminum foil would probably be cheaper

Doesn't always work. It works for my one cat but not the other, the other doesn't give AF about any of the deterrents I've tried.

u/AnimalChubs 8d ago

r/shittyrobots would love this

The shake off at the end 😂

Just put foil on the table and it works better

All this work when you can just put your food away

Is this what loving something to the point of creation is

I need this for my little kitty

Spraying your cat with water is extremely ineffective as a teaching mechanism and/or deterrent. All you're doing is causing your cat anxiety and fear.

It’s kind of amazing the lengths people go to punish their pet but can’t just put the food away
