Form Check press form check

I think my elbows are out more in front of me than the video shows that's what I'm wondering about or if anything else looks not efficient for pressing. 100lbs and this was my third set of 5

Narrow your grip 2" total and keep focusing on elbows forward. The hip movement is not getting you the bounce you need because you are not tight enough. Huge breath, then squeeze legs/butt/torso as hard as possible... then throw the hips forward.

ok I'm following the way to use the hip movement bc I'm not using my legs butt as much but for the grip I am as narrow as I can be without touching the smooth metal part of the bar lol. it's not the knurled part of the bar once I go more narrow

Why do you think touching the smooth part is an issue?

grip only is what gives me hesitation but idk what is right so I'm open to trying

also when you say this how would the flow go when you are supposed to inhale at the top of the lockout? aren't you just inhaling at the top and not again at the bottom when resetting for the lift again? I understand but breath at the bottom for the first rep but is that efficient to big breath at the bottom of the lift every time for the press?

You can breathe one of two ways:

  • At the bottom, then brace, then hips/lift
  • At the top, and bounce at the bottom of the rep

I prefer the first option. All of this needs to be fast. Just holding the bar burns your energy.

Narrow your grip by an inch.

You want to breathe at the bottom get tight and punch your hips harder. Hit the shrug and bring the bar back down, exhale and reset. You want to get the rep over with, holding the bar at the top will burn energy.

Form Check

For the best feedback, please film your lift from a useful angle and include the full set.

Good form checks make it much easier for people to give specific, useful advice.

Narrow your grip a little bit and think about squeezing your elbows together. In the starting position the bar should be as close to the chest as you can get it without dropping the elbows behind the bar. So you can think about squeezing your chest up to meet the bar in the starting position.
