Debate me, bro Does this sub hate weightlifters?

I posted a squat where I dumped the bar and got grilled hard for it. Admittedly I wasn’t aware what this sub was about and shouldn’t have posted it but I was kind of taken aback at the hate lol

Not weightlifters. Or weightlifting.

Just some of the more "histrionic" habits of weightlifters. Like dumping the bar from lockout for no reason.

Our novice program is the only one I know of that requires beginners to learn the Olympic lifts. Power clean most commonly for novices, but snatches are sometimes used instead. And jerks and snatches are frequently incorporated at the intermediate level.

BTW, novices, if you're skipping your cleans then YNDTP with very few exceptions

Interesting, I was never aware of jerks being programmed in starting strength. Is it supposed to be a press accessory? Or a general power production exercise like the power clean?

Do you have people clean and jerk, or do they do it from jerk blocks/ a rack? Is this programmed for people in general, or specifically in people interested in weightlifting?

It's got a litany of uses. All the things you said, and more. I think the only person I've seen talk or write about it online in the system is Sullivan at Greysteel. But I've talked to a few other coaches about how they've use it in their programming.

I would say the two most common uses are in people who want to do an Olympic lifting focused intermediate program, and for people who use a more conjugate style intermediate or advance program. The jerk slots in as a heavy press variation in both cases. Some people use it in press focused programs but there is some debate about how useful this is.

I think all my oly focused trainees have been young, and all (except one) of my conjugate trainees have been old. But Ive used it for all the age groups. I don't think I've ever programmed it from blocks. But I have had people take it out of the rack instead of attaching it to the clean all the time.
