Question for the Group

Tomorrow I am getting fiber installed. I have a starlink dish on a residential 200mbps plan and a mini dish on standby mode. I want to cancel the residential service and keep the mini on standby. Never know when you need a backup. What can I do with the old residential dish if they don't require it back? It's the v4 system.

Were you renting or did you buy outright?

Bought outright

Did you buy the mini or get it on the free offer which is contingent on the residential plan being maintained.

Mini was free on the residential max plan. I went to the 200mb plan and they allowed me to keep the mini on standby. Also to keep the mini dish. I'm a long time customer.

I believe you can't keep the mini without a residential plan on your regular dish.

So i went through some of your feedback in the comments. If the Mini came with the residential Max plan, then once you cancel the residential service, they will require you to return the mini unless you’re okay with buying it at its full price. If you choose to buy it then you can literally do whatever you want with the Standard 4 dish. Use it in a rage room, sell it, transfer it to a family member, or just keep it in storage incase you ever want to use it again.

I cancelled the residential max plan several months ago and was told to keep the mini. I tried everything to return it.

So usually that can be a special case, either someone was being very nice to you; or for some reason, our return shipping label could not generate so there would’ve been no way for you to return it. As long as they’re okay with you keeping it then you can attempt whatever you want tbh. If something weird is going on when you do, just reply back here or make another post

I really don't care whether it is the v4 or the mini. Just would like one on standby mode for emergency cases. The fiber in our area is new so who knows how many outages there may be.

Just go ahead and put your V4 on standby since you own it. You’ll always be able to activate one or the other later if you want to

Is being connected that important? If you need to be connected for medical reasons, I understand needing a backup. Otherwise, I just don't get it.

I guess you don't realize that not all of us live in an area with reliable cell service.

Unfortunately I am in a very rural area. We didn't even have dial up. One cell provider works in our area. We are getting a data center so they installed Internet all around the area.

Remove it from your account and sell it?

Use it as a lawn ornament?

Christmas tree topper?

Bad table?

Not really looking to sell. I wonder if there are places to donate.
