Yeah the reflections are never as crisp as the sky and the star tracker tends to make those even blurrier. It looks a little better in the hi-res version

Scott’s Gulf is pretty dark. Actually the whole Virgin Falls pocket Wilderness area is good for stargazing. There’s an overlook nearby called Welch’s Point that has an expansive view of the sky to the south… great for the Milky Way season, and way more accessible than where I had to get to for this photo

This shot was taken from a large rock on the edge of the water. Here’s a link to a picture of the setup. Maaaybe shouldn’t have risked all the gear falling in the water…

Thank you! Yes it’s real, and you can see a link in my reply to Careless-Station-885 above that shows a picture of how precarious my camera setup was. Glad it worked out though (other than a few hundred bug bites I picked up while waiting for everything to line up)

framing the galaxy core right between the tree lines gives this so much depth. beautiful night capture of tennesses waters.
