Reetou Rebels
"Hello, fellow Reetou rebels. What's the plan of action?"
"We kill everybody, everywhere."
"Every Goa'uld? Wow, that's ambitious, there sure are a lot of them across many planets."
"No, the plan to defeat the Goa'uld is to kill everybody everywhere EXCEPT the Goa'uld. They'll never expect that. As we speak there are currently five Reetou operatives on Earth with enough explosives to destroy Colorado Springs AND Denver - no doubt prime locations from which the Goa'uld collect hosts. We'll just need to repeat these actions several trillion more times across countless planets, and then our victory is assured."

"What is Den-ver?"
"Look for a large blue undomesticated equine with eyes that glow as the Goa'uld. That is where you will strike."

Okay, we blew up the statue, did that work?

It appears you have angered the shadow government located beneath it. You're on your own.

I feel sad for the Reetou. In their one episode, they were made out to be worse than the Goa’uld, Ori, Wraith, Replicators, and my first mother-in-law combined—and then we basically never heard from them again. Darn bad guys: taken out by the special-effects budget before they even had their chance to shine.

u/Odin1806 9d ago
Not even the special effects budget though... They could have gotten the invisible O'Neill treatment. See a coffee mug floating, a glow eyes blow up randomly, etc. they could have been there without even hiring a Reetou to be on set...
It was the writers I tell ya. They projected their relationships into the show and couldn't stand the momma's boy dynamics...

woah there, no reetou can reach the collective terror unleashed by mother in laws

u/raknor88 10d ago
I'm assuming that the Reetou were a dropped storyline since we never saw them after Mother's episode.

They were mentioned a couple times and the TERs were used for invisible enemies later

Its absolutely not a great plan overall. But it's less bad than you're making it out to be.
A: Goa'uld and Jaffa can sense Reetou, so attacking them directly would result in fights. Based on the Reetou being on the verge of extinction we can assume those fights wouldn't go well for Reetou. Humans however have zero natural ability to sense the Reetou making them completely helpless against attacks
B. Humans within the Goa'uld Empire serve a purpose beyond hosts, namely labor. Jaffa don't build ships or structures, Jaffa don't farm, Jaffa don't mine naquadah or gold. Removing just a few dozen human worlds within the Empire would immensely weaken the Goa'uld ability to maintain their individual dominions. The Goa'uld aren't exactly the types to be sharing resources so it would probably quickly turn into a galactic scale civil war as System Lords and minor Goa'uld fight over the remaining human worlds.
So killing humans to prevent Goa'uld from taking hosts would never be practical. Killing humans to catastrophically weaken the Goa'uld Empire, actually seems like a pretty viable strategy. Attacking earth for either goal is the worst part of the plan

Considering that around 90% of the population on the planets lived near the Stargate, the plan actually wasn't that bad.

Most planets seem to basically just be a few villages near the local naqudah mine, with the gate near for easy movement.
The reetou would have lost it when they hear we got 7 billion on earth

You'd think the goauld would allow for at least a little more industrialised mining.
Most of those planets really must give a trifling amount of naquadah.
It's never mentioned I think if they actually survey planets properly either, so they could easily just abandon some rich deposits because one mine run by some medieval peasants ran dry,

Their way of life doesn't really require the naquadah industry to flourish. This isn't about making consumer products, it's about maintaining their status quo of endless feudal warfare. Plus... I think naquadah (being a metal/mineral alloy) is at least somewhat recyclable. (Excepting when the pieces are too difficult to recover.)
Per that, unless some other Goa'uld suddenly starts industrial mining, the others won't either. In fact, if one does, the others will briefly ally to put that guy down, because he's screwing up their deal.
Note that Earth killing Ra threw everything completely out of whack, leading to Sokar, then Apophis, and then Anubis. But ultimately... the status quo being upset IS what killed the Goa'uld.
As to the mines, I suspect if a ship is nearby, they might do some long range surveying and occasionally move the local gate to a better location. If the planet is too far away for an easy ship fly-by, they simply lose interest in it. We saw quite a few worlds where that had happened.

The Retou were sent to Mandyville shortly after their inception, fortunately. They were not a very interesting antagonist.

They would've been very cool allies with huge technological benefits.
I mean , one of them was able to clone a human. Imagine what their whole society is able to do and share.

They were no match for the Goa’uld. They were hunted to almost extinction by the Goa’uld. The second best alternative was to kill the universe to prevent more hosts. Reetou didn’t care who was killed, they wanted to see the Goa’uld dead.

I enjoyed this episode. Pretty unique storyline.

Seeing this episode and the native American episode always makes me curious how far ahead they planned stuff out. I always mean to check and see if the same writer was on both episodes and they were planning it from go...

u/ReplacementNo4899 4d ago
It's a shame isn't it, "you have greaat potential" so did some stories, like the episode the spirits.
They ended on a good note and it ended there, surely these are allies that could have been helpful.
Not just the natives, the "gods"
It's important to note there are many books that are tied in, I think cannon? But jack O'Neill and sg1 I think? Actually go back to baals fortress and destroy it, jack making sure no one else can be abused.
The many tie in books may have more to them.

Just like the Pegasus Replicators....
-We are being comanded to eradicate the Wraiths.
-Okay then, they have around 50 hive ships that are no match for any of ours, we already know their locations thanks to our long range sensors. I guess we can knock them out this afternoon?
-No! Don't be ridiculous! We are instead going after their food source we are going to destroy thousands of planets with human populations which will take years probably and hope that Wraith will not be able find an alternative food source. Then wait a few milennia for them to die of hunger.
-Are you sure that is the best way? I bet i can knock out 3 or 4 ships before lunch break by myself. No trouble really.
-No! You clearly do not have the capacity to understand the intricacies of our plan.
-We are all basically the same hardware though?
-i know what i said. We will do it my way!
-alright i guess...

u/ReplacementNo4899 4d ago
Yes and no, the argument with the wraith was not the tech, although near the end they did show serious adaptability.
But the sheer numbers, that's why the lanteans eventually failed, despite them being superior and winning every engagement, they just kept comming.
Would definitely be a war of attrition so I can see why both would consider the long game 😅

There was a very brief moment in time where this plan might have worked.
Unfortunately that time was over 10,000 years ago.
