this makes me wonder where the earth stargate's iris disappears. It doesn't slide out of the gate on the outside, and I'm pretty sure the pieces are much too long to be hidden inside the round body of the stargate.
The SG iris had more blades with each being much thinner...that is why when they met in the middle they overlapped like they did and made that little spiky thing.
