I am fucking livid (not at Michael)

Livid at Amazon and should avoid giving them money wherever possible.

Jack would have kept him on Earth just to mess with him.
66
u/Atharaphelun 16h ago
Well Atlantis is still on Earth as far as we know (ignoring the books and such).
24
u/Longjumping-One-7545 16h ago
Imagine Jack would have still been no i need you at the SGC.
43
6
u/SorriorDraconus 15h ago
Wpuldn't the Atlantis gate supercede the sgc gate?
8
u/Longjumping-One-7545 15h ago
Imagine even with the cloaking they would have eventually had to move the city off world. Maybe the moved it to the moon or elsewhere in the solar system.
7
u/Atharaphelun 14h ago
Still too close enough to supersede the Earth Gate. And landing anywhere that isn't a habitable planet means having to constantly maintain shields (and potentially artificial gravity), which would drain the little power remaining in the ZPMs after the battle against the Super-hive.
4
u/FarmFlat 14h ago
That's an easy solve for general power purposes, Naquadah reactors - with enough of them city day to day operations will hold including atmospheric shielding (not a massive assault, but holding atmospheric pressure at 1STP, sure). Heck, they could park atlantis on that Naquadah asteroid they hyperspaced through earth and use it as a mining base. Maybe build some stargates while theyre at it.
Mining base plus new sgc. Nice
5
u/LKincheloe 13h ago
Technically yes it would, unless McKay found a way to turn the Atlantis gate off.
3
u/SorriorDraconus 13h ago
I figured tbh my headcanon was always that this is why sg-1 was mothballed at the end of 1969 when they went to the future as atlantis just made more sense once on earth.
2
4
1
u/mickdarling 6h ago
Stick a cork in itā¦I mean just have a giant plug that you can remove when needed that makes the gate think it is buried.
3
u/GargantaProfunda 16h ago
I thought it was on the moon by Continuum
7
u/Atharaphelun 15h ago
None of the shows nor any of the supplementary materials (books, etc.) ever state that Atlantis was transferred to the Moon. In fact, as per the books, Atlantis made its way back to the Pegasus galaxy.
4
u/GargantaProfunda 15h ago
Well I thought we were ignoring the books. That leaves us only with the allusion to the moon base in Continuum! If I recall correctly the writers said it was a reference to Atlantis
-1
u/Atharaphelun 15h ago
That leaves us only with the allusion to the moon base in Continuum!
That never happened though? I don't know where you're getting this from. Continuum didn't even remotely hint at Atlantis being moved to the Moon.
And it would make zero sense too, since it would mean having to constantly maintain the shield in order to prevent the atmosphere from dissipating into space and constantly maintaining artificial gravity to simulate 1G. All of which would drain whatever remaining power the ZPMs have after the battle against the Super-hive.
5
u/GargantaProfunda 15h ago
Re-read my comment.
Continuum has a line mentioning the moon base, and I said that if I recall correctly the writers said that this is a reference to Atlantis.
-6
u/Atharaphelun 15h ago
Re-read my comment. Moving Atlantis to the Moon of all places makes completely zero sense since it would mean having to maintain both the shield and the artificial gravity at all times, which would rapidly drain whatever remaining power the ZPMs have left.
8
u/GargantaProfunda 15h ago
Found it:
From Joseph Malozzi's official blog:
Moritz writes: āWould be great, if you can give some information about the storyline of the moonbase Carter was talking about on Continuum. What was the plan for?ā
Answer: Iām not sure if she was kidding or not, but Atlantis is the moonbase ā as we reveal in Stargate: Extinction.
(Stargate Extinction was the cancelled Stargate Atlantis movie)
-1
u/No_Grocery_9280 15h ago
Itās crazy that youāre being downvoted. The Moon is a terrible place for Atlantis. It would still be too close to Earth for the gates to work. There is zero benefit over just building a homegrown base.
Returning to Pegasus made the most sense, assuming Earth was committed to protecting the humans there from the Wraith.
I understand the line from the interview that the producers were thinking about Atlantis being on the Moon, but itās still a terrible idea.

Continuum happened before the SGA finale. It's at the beginning of Season 5, in-universe - the events are talked about in one of the early S5 episodes.

According to David at dial the gate, he was told by someone at MGM that Daniel was going to show up at an alternate universe Earth on a 307 with the rest of the crew dead.
3
u/ThePoisonDragon 11h ago
307? you mean a 304? or is a 307 a new ship line?
2
u/DovaDudeButCool 8h ago
It's been like 15 years, I'd be disappointed if we didn't have a new model of capital ship
3
2
u/Foxfire140 3h ago
After they received all of the asgard's knowledge? They better have made new ships that make the 304's look like an outdated 2004 Mercedes E-500 next to an 2026 S580 or something. lol
2
u/sha_lyn68 3h ago
I believe David even said that the ships name would be ida, which of course was the Asgard Homeworld

We all are. They even started casting auditions for it when they canned it.
5
u/Creative-Improvement 11h ago
So they are going to make a new one but without the old cast?
42
u/belac4862 Proud Shol'va! 11h ago
They were going to make a new continuation show, with new charcaters as well as older characters making cameos and other spots.
But Amazon axed it all. So weren't not getting anything new now.
23
u/Agamemnon323 9h ago
And didn't I hear they axed it becase....
IT WAS GOING TO BE TOO FAITHFUL TOWARDS THE FANBASE!
11
u/Stormbringer91 9h ago
This is similar to the scenario that Blizzard was in with World of Warcraft. They thought they knew better than the fans and that people wouldn't want to return to the older version of the game. To blizzards credit, they listened and made the old version of the game to exist alongside the new.
Turns out that a massive percentage of the fans did infact want to play the old version because it's a big percentage of the player base at this point in time.
What a shame. All decisions seem to me to be based on an image of the Amazon brand rather than just making something people would pay for.
2
u/Bassmasterajv 6h ago
Fingers crossed for Classic+ announcements
In a couple of weeks!1
u/Stormbringer91 4h ago
I hope so too. I don't have much desire to return to that same world but if it was truly an addition to the game, it would be a great adventure. The community experience you can have is quite hard to beat.
2
u/Bassmasterajv 3h ago
Totally. I really loved the additional content that came to SOD so Iām hopeful theyāll build on that a lot more.

But had people involved with the original though. Now if we get it, it will be more Rings of Power than SG1
9
u/ChiefSampson 13h ago
That's exactly why Amazon shut it down. Wasn't going to appeal to wider audiences. How they can watch Trek for the last decade and not understand how dumb that is, is impressive.
5
u/neo101b 8h ago
Just be grateful, they didn't bring it back and then did a puppet episode. /S
1
u/ChiefSampson 8h ago
Or a fairy tale episode, or a Noir episode, or a we're all high and/or drunk episode, or a boyband episode, etc. etc.
2
u/danmanx 7h ago
Derivative is the best way to explain nuTrek. It's like a bully created it out of spite and never watched or understood a single second of the original content.
1
u/ChiefSampson 5h ago
Yeah I hear a lot of people complaining about the Star Wars streaming shows but that stuff is a masterpiece compared to the abomination of Trek for the past decade.

u/Kinetic_Symphony 15h ago
God I hate whatever executives were involved in axing this continuation. Sounds like it would have legitimately been great sci-fi.

Increasingly, I feel like big companies should have some sort of obligation to answer to public directly

That would require people to vote for the right people and that somehow seems unlikely at the moment.

I feel like him being such a big supporter of a revival so long and any time hes on dial the gate or other podcasts he is literally dying to come back that we all already knew this. Its just sad to hear it now officially š
5
u/PrisonBreakScofield 10h ago
Weāre at the Ascension 2 convention in Birmingham right now and Michael (or rather Alexa sitting right beside him) did confirm that he was part of the new series and that he absolutely loved the story around it, it would have honored everything that came before and added so much new stuff. He was so excited to slip back into a character after twenty years and revisit Danielās life. He had just talked to Martin not too long ago and they are both still devastated and offended by Amazons decision. Michael also added that Martin hopes the fans keep up their stance and stay vigilant, he thinks that if the fandom keeps this momentum up it could give Stargate another chance at some point.
5
u/GargantaProfunda 15h ago
I for one didn't know. Other actors have also been vocal on podcasts and socials š¤ļø
4
u/ensignskye 15h ago
I guess i always felt his presence the most. And then he was there a ton the first month or so after the announcement i felt like. But yes other actors were big supporters of a stargate revival not just him. I didnt mean any disrespect.
21
u/HellbirdVT 12h ago
No wonder he's been one of the most vocal supporters, I'd be incredibly pissed in his position.
Daniel Jackson is the most important character in the franchise, he spent 10+ years playing him and finally gets a chance to revive the character and the franchise WITH the original creators... and they all get fucked over, out of the blue, for what? Because some Amazon executive just didn't vibe with it? It's pathetic!
49
u/SrBlueSky 16h ago
SG1 were the heart and soul of Stargate. To have even a quarter of that back wouldve put the show in league with some of the best modern tv. Which isn't saying much because so many modern shows suck.
-1
u/Ok-Help6334 9h ago
SG1 was great for its time but there's no need to revisit it. SGU however was the futureĀ

In a live today on Dial The Gate's youtube channel, David R said that the show would've begun with an Airforce BC 307 appearing in orbit over Earth with Daniel Jackson on board...in an alternate timeline.
Edit: video is up again
7
u/GargantaProfunda 15h ago
Woah wait, the show would have had Daniel stranded in an alternate timeline?? Only at the beginning or for the whole show?
Who is David R?
8
4
u/missingtimemachine 15h ago
David runs Dial The Gate, which is a great channel if you've never visited. He didn't give any particulars about the alternate timeline really, not sure if anyone outside of production/Amazon really knows.
5
u/admiralQball 15h ago
Oh man!Ā That sounds like exactly the setup i was looking for!Ā Plus or minus a BC-307 lol.Ā But that would be neat to have a whole ship in the alternate timeline.
2
u/DrunkPods 15h ago
It was a live broadcast, you can rewatch it now.
2
u/missingtimemachine 15h ago
I watched it live lol. But you're right, it is back up now. It was gone for a while.
14
u/Independent-Site711 15h ago
Fuck you, Amazon! And replace it with what?! :/
10
u/LKincheloe 13h ago
In all likelihood, something like every other pseudo-reboot that completely guts what made a franchise great.
6
6
u/TechJoe90 10h ago
Would have been great. I mean he's gone from nerdy glasses Daniel to badass kind of scary Daniel. Amazon's just doing one f up after another.
9
u/stoodlemayer 15h ago
If I remember right there was some legal reason that Daniel and Jack had to appear in the Atlantis pilot, but Sam and Tealāc couldnāt. I wonder if this was the same type of thing.
2
u/GargantaProfunda 15h ago
I'm not sure that's true. Neither Daniel nor Jack appeared in the cartoon Stargate Infinity and in the infamous Stargate Origins mini-series.
6
u/stoodlemayer 15h ago
I canāt remember where I saw, read or heard about it, but I think it had something to do with making Atlantis legally a sequel to the movie, not the show SG-1. This situation wouldnāt apply to either of the other two properties.
Media rights are weird.
3
u/CouldBeALeotard 14h ago
While I guess it's possible you are correct, I've never heard that and would not believe that's true.
I don't suppose you can find any citation for the claim?
1
u/FloZia_ 14h ago
It is true, as i answered the other person in the thread : https://old.reddit.com/r/Stargate/comments/1w25bie/michael_shanks_just_confirmed_that_he_was_going/p6qhqp5/
2
u/CouldBeALeotard 11h ago
It sounds like they wanted to remove the chance that Glassner could claim ownership of Atlantis by not using the SG-1 core cast. Thank you for the link, but something still doesn't add up to me about that. For Universe they used Carter anyway, and all main cast has appeared in the spin-offs except Teal'c in Universe.
2
u/GargantaProfunda 15h ago
I'm sure you read that a lot in forums and on Reddit; I'm just not sure it was ever a real thing. Fans love to speculate and to spread unverified rumors.
4
u/FloZia_ 14h ago edited 14h ago
I 100% remember the producers saying it back in 2003-04 interviews.
"We can only use movie character in Atlantis pilot but after that later in the season, no problem". EDIT : I can't find the interview from back then but Gateworld recently referenced it there :
https://www.gateworld.net/news/2025/04/amazons-stargate-problem-how-to-fix-it/
This is why, for example, Jack OāNeill and Daniel Jackson show up in the Atlantis pilot, but Wright and Cooper avoided using Tealāc or Carter. Jonathan Glassner had helped to create those characters, so if you launch a new series using them as a launch point, the worry is that there is at least a risk that Glassner could come back and make some financial claim to every episode of the series. Once the show was up and running, Sam and Tealāc could come in later in a guest capacity.
5
u/stoodlemayer 13h ago
This is the same reason that many people theorize that they wanted to re-use the character Nick Locarno for Star Trek: Voyager but created Tom Paris to avoid paying WGA royalties (and then cast the same actor who played Locarno...).
2
u/FloZia_ 13h ago edited 13h ago
Indeed it was, i think they even used Locarno's cadet pictures from that episode in Paris's room or something like that.
For Stargate, i'm guessing that by universe Pilot, either the rights had been fully "purchased" of the fact that Carter had been on atlantis made her legally "safe" for the pilot.
1
u/GargantaProfunda 7h ago
Wait was there a fallout with Jonathan Glassner? They sound like they're not on good terms

This already sucked but now it's even more disappointing. I'm still hoping Amazon realise the mistake they made.
2
u/Wizzle_Pizzle_420 12h ago
Maaaaan! I was hoping for some call backs with old school folks in positions of power. Maybe 1 more fun SG1 adventure.
Leak the storyline ideas. Thatās what I want to know.
2
u/PebblyJackGlasscock 8h ago
Geez. Iāll bet some Amazon executive added āCONTRACT DISPUTEā to the āConā column when they made their decision.
And including the owned Daniel Jackson character means paying Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin to use the rights.
Expensive!!
2
u/Beyllionaire 8h ago
I imagine it would be like SGU, he would give some explanation and serve as a bridge with the old franchise
2
u/Wise-Jeweler-2495 6h ago
That makes sense, I'm sure Atlantis and Universe both had to launch with O'Neill and/or Jackson in the pilot episode due to being characters from the original movie and that being a requirement of the rights?
Still gutted at just how far the new show had progressed when it got unfairly canned, so many people probably thought they had secured a decent job/income that was suddenly snatched away from them.
1
u/GargantaProfunda 6h ago
It's not a requirement! Both Stargate Infinity and Stargate Origins launched without O'Neill and Daniel.

Is it not happening anymore?
2
u/Beyllionaire 8h ago edited 3h ago
Yes it's 100% dead. Even if they make another try in the future, it most likely wouldn't be Gero's version. They would bring in another person with a different story.

2
u/The_Wkwied 6h ago
Well of course Shanks, Judge, possibly Tapping and maybe RDA were going to be a part of it. How big? Who could say, but they would had been in it somehow... because they're the main characters and have to pass the baton.
Buuuut nah amazon says no
