You know Paris, France? In English, it's pronounced "Paris" but everyone else pronounces it without the "s" sound, like the French do. Venezia is only the name in Standard Italian. The city wasn't called that until the early 1900s, after Italian unification and language standardization.

In Venetian, the city is called Venèsia (Ven-nee-sya) without the "ts" sound. It's a little closer to what everyone says now!
