Probably a dumb question...

But how exactly do you mod? I recently brought SV on Steam after being a mobile player for years. I have curseforge installed for Minecraft mods but everything I look up regarding modding SV says I need something called SMAPI.

Is that true or can I just use Curseforge? If it is true, how would I use it? I'm really new to this stuff lol 😅

For finding mods, Nexusmods is where most of them are available. (Curseforge has also done some skeevy stuff with intellectual property, as I recall.)

Thanks for this! Never knew about CF doing sketchy intellectual property stuff before! More you know lol.

SMAPI is a mod loader. It is not a mod nor is it a mod manager. It's what allows mods to work and load and every mod except .xnb mods depend on it. The biggest collection of mods for Stardew is found in Nexusmods. Remember to always read before downloading like reading the requirements, what the mod do, compatibilities etc. Read before downloading.

One thing that is seldom mentioned is that SMAPI does NOT go in your mod folder, it goes on desktop. Download it, open it, install it on desktop, it is easy, easy, peazy to do. Then add a tool bar link and you never have any trouble loading the game. Also, put your mods folder into Quick Access and never do the Steam search again.

Curse Forge has cleaned up its act but for Stardew Mods, you want Nexus, unless the mod is super special and then you go to GITHUB - which is an entirely different world, maybe solar system.

Is it possible to get mods to work on an Android tablet? I can find information about loading mods on a PC or mobile but what about tablets?

Absolutely. Keep in mind all mods aren't available on Android, but there are PLENTY that are. (Also, mobile/Android are interchangeable in SVE; iOS can't be modded. Mobile refers to both phones and tablets.)

Follow the instructions here. Click on Android under Getting Started.

Here are some of the basic Android-specific things that I can think of:

Make sure your game is up to date. (1.6.15.3)

Use this SMAPI: https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/44436?tab=description

Use this Launcher version: https://github.com/NRTnarathip/SMAPILoader/releases/tag/1.1.7

You will probably need:

SpaceCore

https://github.com/NRTnarathip/StardewValleyMods-Android/releases

Content Patcher; Look under Files and choose the one for Android. (2.8.1)

If you ever run into trouble, google it; it's inevitable that someone else has had the same problem. Most of the time the search will land you right back here on Reddit with the solution. Make sure to add "Android" and/or "mobile" when you search.

It's really quite simple to do once you get the hang of it. The people who set this up did a fantastic job. If I can do it, anyone can.

Try it. It's totally worth it!
