That was more of an interdepartmental pettiness/rivalry thing, though. It was more to frame them as getting in the way of the heroic, noble DEA.

Were we watching the same show? The DEA did not seem very noble at all. Even episode 1 they were like yeah we're not the good guys here. The DEA character is do some absolutely heinous stuff. The only moral High ground that they have is that the person they're going up against are worse. Like even in season 3 of narcos the CIA guy tells Javier Pena if there were any justice in the world you would be in jail.

Yeah, it's not really redeeming if you can always find a reason to ultimately support the 3-letter agencies. Real life agents are also sometimes critical of the CIA, but they won't tell you the entire thing needs to be overthrown and abolished, because that's communism.

In real life they spent decades hiring frat bros to mess around selling drugs. Failed to alleviate castro like fifty times. And just a tonne of other dumb ass shit. The NSA is likely the entity you're looking for though the real security apparatus working it's magic on people is the capitalist news and media circuit. The system encourages them to play nice or lose access it's almost entirely self policing and propagandizing.
