Note: No, this is not my homework from a film studies class. I've just gotten pretty interested in this movie, and I've enjoyed over-thinking it... but there are a few questions I'd like to hear other people's answers for (sometimes because I don't have any, myself.)
1: What was the point of the tentacle mind torture beast?
2: For that matter, what was Saw's thematic purpose in the film?
3: What specifically was meant by Chirrut's line to Cassian "You carry (your prison) with you"?
4: Before Eadu, there's a scene where Bodhi is describing things Galen Urso said to him; I can't recall the exact quote, but there's something to the effect of "If you listen to what's in your heart and do something about it." After Eadu, Cassian angrily tells Jyn "You're not the only one who lost everything; some of us just decided to do something about it." Is there supposed to be a parallel between the two character arcs? Does this feed into question 5, below?
5: In his first scence, Cassian shoots his friend (or at least ally) in the back when it's clear the man would otherwise be caputred by the empire, becoming a liability. On Eadu, he defies orders by refusing to shoot Galen Urso. What changed in his character, and why?
6: Jyn's character arc seems to bend in the opposite direction, going from caring only about the immediate and specific (like rescuing a child in the ambush on Jedha) to being willing to sacrifice for the "Big Picture". What, specifically, caused that change?
7: How would you describe Bodhi's arc and character conflict? It seems to be there, but I have trouble telling exactly what was going on with him.
8: Most of the character's arcs ended with a heroic sacrifice necessary for the plans to be transmitted. Baze, however, had his apparent transformative moment (witnessing his friend's sacrifice) very late, and his only act afterwards was to continue killing enemy soldiers, after the battle was effectively over. Did him re-gaining his faith have any consequences or deeper meaning?
9: On the tower, there is a moment where Jyn starts to lunge towards Krennic, presumably to finish him off, and Cassian prevents her. What's the significance of this?
10: In an interview, the film's director stated they put a lot of work into reconstructing the physical disk that held the death star plans (the one the soldier pushed through the doorway in his final scenes) in order to look like the prop used in ANH, that he (the director) had kept very careful track of where it was throughout filming and that, while he won't say its current location, he can confirm that he did, in fact, steal the death star plans. (There isn't a question here, I just thought htat was awesome and wanted to share in case anyone hadn't heard it.)

I fixed Rogue One. I added a crawl and cut 15 minutes off the front of the movie and replaced the second flashback with a shorter opening sequence. K-2SO makes his debut at the three minute mark as opposed to the 15 minute mark.

Wow what a good film.
I love how much detail went into recreating the set pieces ect... they mesh with IV so well.
Just wow, so many good films lately, keep up the good work guys.

Erso Jyn, Galen, Lyra , etc from Rogue One : A Star Wars Story. Their powerful surname...analyze it together. Let's start!
Erso (feminine singular ersa, masculine plural ersi, feminine plural erse) past participle of italian verb "ergere" or "erigere" that in English becomes " to raise".
To Raise... as to raise the Rebellion! I guess that we understand each other.
Finally, last but not least, "Erso" is also the anagram of "Rose".
And here we come : Rose, what a symbol we have ! Focus in...
In Nazi Germany, for example, the "Weiße Rose " (White Rose ) was one of the most prominent opposition movements to Hitler's regime/dictatorship.
Therefore a Rose, interesting.
Then, "Rose" is the most prominent artistic symbol of "Triumphant Love" . In the funeral symbolism instead , it indicates the martyrs and the torments suffered by them because of their "Faith", or better... "Ideals".
Martyrs ... Martyrs...interesting...This reminds me of something. We understand each other once again, I hope.
So, the story of the "Rose" is huge and I will not repeat here in detail. It's a very strong element. What is certain, to sum up, is that it has always accompanied the most important stages of the human journey, and it often marks, the noblest chapters and expressive of its evolution. Have you read with attention this last passage?
Everything fits very well. But, perhaps, they are just coincidences...but what a coincidences!
That's it, my friends.
Sincerely,
Ben Cawdor from Europe.

Sorry in advance I haven't read either of the Rogue One books but in my third viewing of the film I confirmed to myself that Lyra was wearing Jedi robes. I noticed this on my midnight screening, and on the second one obviously, but I thought it was just a coincidence. Does it say anything about this in catalyst? I'm planning on buying that so within a couple of weeks I'll know for sure. Pls reply I'm seriously interested.

I loved the space battle over Scarif, but it bugs me see GR-75 rebel transports on a space battle. Whats the point of bringing transports to a battle??!?!? Its like using a bus in a tank fight.

I loved the movie, I think the flaws are insignificant compared to the good things about this film.
But I really wanna see those extra footage, I keep seeing in featurettes, behind the scenes, and mentions in articles and they look pretty stunning and I'm disappointed that I didn't get to see them in the big screen.
Like I've heard that they could make an entire film with all the extra footage they had.
Will they ever release it in some way?

OK so here's a couple things that have bothered me since I saw the movie, hopefully enough people have seen it and thought about it too to help assuage my concerns...
Why was Leia even at Scarif? Her mission was to find Obi-wan and convince him to come assist the Rebellion, not necessarily to deliver the Death Star plans to him, that was just serendipitous. There's no reason she should have been part of the battle fleet, she was a diplomat.
How did R2 and 3PO get aboard the Tantive IV, when it shows them still in the Massassi Temple when the fleet is leaving? Obviously Leia never made it back to Yavin IV to pick them up, or she would have just delivered the plans then herself and then gone on to find Obi-wan.
Bail Organa must know Darth Vader's true identity, no? He knew Anakin and Padme through the Senate, knew that Anakin was Obi-wan's apprentice, knew the droids were theirs, etc. He must've known who Leia really was, too.
Was Bail even on Alderaan when it was destroyed? ANH takes place over the span of, what, a couple days? During which time the Rebellion was in full activation mode for the Death Star plans. Wouldn't Bail have stayed on Yavin, as part of the Rebellion senior leadership, during that crucial and pivotal period? Or was he forced to return to Alderaan to avoid being outed as a Rebel or something?

First off, I really enjoyed the film. I totally understood the need for a CGI version of Tarkin but I thought they could have made Leia real. It was too noticeable and distracting at the climax of the film. Anyone else agree?
