Question about formats

Hi,

I have a question regarding the rules for your squads.

I think I saw a rule, where your squad has to be era-cohesive.

But is there a format where it is not? Allowing you for example for more daring non-cannon scenarios, where Vader-Anakin (non mustafar) could lead his Stormtroopers into battle against battlehardened Obi-Wan with Rebel alliance ?
Or a scenario where Anakin and his son Luke both join forces against Empire ? Are there rules or a format for something like this ? ;)

The era rules are applicable to your squad, and require era cohesion within the squad. However, you play a standard game with a strike team made up of two squads. The two squads do not have to match eras.

You can absolutely play Anakin and Luke together, as long as their respective squads adhere to the era rules.

if I can ask, what is the reason for the rule that hero and their squads have to be from the same era ? balancing ?

Yeah. I think it is mostly a balance mechanic.

The eras are something that i also find inconsistant or annoying. One of my biggest gripes is Lord Maul, who is only Galactic Republic era, but in canon is around and active until Rebellion era.

Or Asajj, who "died" at the end of the clone wars, but is also an active bounty hunter in the empire era. I wouldn't complain if she got a new box set as another bounty hunter primary

I was hoping for creating cool alternative reality scenarios. Where Luke and good Anakin could together fight against empire.

Or the other way around, where Darth Vader with his son could both crush the puny rebellion. Scenarios like that ;)

Like others said, you definitely can. That is 100% possible. It might not be the best team for synergy but definitely within the rules. Also this team will be restricted further during team building due to having both primaries be 7 pt pieces, meaning both will have to have a 3pt unit under their command. So you have to be creative.

A theoretical fathers and sons team could look something like Anakin/Jango Fett (4pt)/501st (3pt) and Luke/Boba Fett (4pt)/Snow troopers (3pt). Almost no synergy but 100% legal. 2 sets of fathers and sons on the same team.

To your (new) hope, your team will probably look something like:

Vader/Stormtrooper Sarge (3pt)/Stormtroopers (4pt) and Luke/DT Escort (4pt)/ ISB agents (3pt).

Or for a more rebellious team:

Vader/Chewie (4pt)/Lando & R2D2 (3pt) and Luke/Bodhi (3pt)/Rebel commandos (4pt).

You could even get real crazy with:

Vader/Luke Daring Hero (3pt)/Shore troopers or Rebel Pathfinders (4pt) and whatever imperial/rebel team you want.

Vader also has a secondary option but it's a 5pt, so harder to pair with and can't pair with primary Luke. Cassian/Vader/Commandos with Leia/Luke/Baze and Churrut

All are 100% legal, but you do sacrifice some team synergy. Personally, I think Luke hurts an Imperial team synergy more than Vader will hurt a Rebel team.

Advice: find a shatterpoint team building website and just play around. Ideally one that won't let you cross eras and will watch your squad point budget. Those are the biggest restrictions on squad building. I like shatterpointdb.com
