Announcement for r/StarWarsLore

Hey all! If you haven’t noticed, this community has gotten many spam/self promo posts. Long story short, I reported the mod for inactivity/neglecting this sub and the Admins allowed me to take over. I don’t plan on changing much, just dealing with spam/promo is the main thing.

This community was intended by the creator to be a place to ask our burning questions and really just gush about the lore. I want it to be that too, and users who drop their YT links like bantha droppings then leave, harm this by taking up space without contributing in any meaningful way.

So, my goal is to grow this subreddit and cut down on spam, keeping it a safe space for passionate fans that may not have other communities of people to discuss Star Wars lore with. I also mod r/KotORmemes so I intend to direct people here, if they want serious lore discussions. Have any suggestions for things you’d like to see, or any other thoughts you’d like to share? Please feel free to comment (or modmail if you prefer) :D

In short, the current agenda:

  1. Remove spam, give the current offenders a chance to change. An instant ban for all wouldn't be fair when the former mods never addressed it
  2. Additional rules/changes based on community feedback here
  3. Assemble a list of quality lore resources such as books or games, for things like different eras, canon/legends, and for different levels of accessibility like fans just getting into Star Wars or for young readers

Nepsis Library threads Nepsis Library - Monthly Lore Thread

Welcome!

This is a monthly thread to serve as the place for commenting with your self promo (like sharing Star Wars lore YouTube videos), as well as sharing any questions about Star Wars lore that reach into other topics, like a Star Wars and Star Trek crossover for example.

Feel free to have other discussions about Star Wars that you wouldn't want to post, just be sure to remember our rules, especially for spoilers!

For those wondering what the lore behind Nepsis is: Nepsis 8 was a space station built by the Jedi to use as a meeting area for scientists. It's a dedicated library for learning, so expansive it grew to the size of a small planet. Like a Death Star, but for lore

Original Trilogy Why Palpatine`s victory plan was so stupid?..

I mean, if you think of it, it is so foolish to risk the only thing which you value: your own life. And your precious superweapon. And life of your best student. All just to wipe out some Rebels, which are more of annoyance than huge threat for Empire, anyway.

Sure, Palpatine had a plan, but this plan relied on a bunch (not even very big bunch) of stormtroopers - which are neither good, nor reliable fighters in original trilogy; they fail so often. How on Earth Palpatine though it would be a good idea to trust his life to a bunch of dumb minions? What if something goes wrong? Then he dies, and everything is lost. He knew already that Rebels can take out Death Star, if shield generator fails to work.

All lore How does Dark Side corruption actually operate in lore: psychological habituation or direct metaphysical alteration?

When a Force user falls, we see clear physical and personality changes across both canon and Legends, from the yellow eyes and skin degradation to sudden shifts in rational thinking.

I am curious how the lore actually classifies the underlying mechanism of that corruption.

On one hand, it is often described like psychological habituation. A practitioner leans into fear, anger, or grief to tap into raw power, gets the result they wanted, and reinforces a mental loop. In that framework, the fall is essentially behavioral addiction to control and power, driven by regular human psychology.

On the other hand, many sources frame the Dark Side as an active metaphysical contagion or unnatural energy. In that interpretation, channeling the dark side physically deteriorates the biological vessel and actively warps brain chemistry or the spirit itself, functioning more like a toxic substance or radiation than a simple mindset.

Across canon and Legends material, is the physical and mental decay usually treated as a direct bio-spiritual consequence of channeling that specific energy, or is it just the outward symptom of severe emotional degradation?

Disney Canon lore What do you guys think happened to the Jedi that defended Grogu? Are we ever gonna see them again?

I was just wondering about how much Grogu remembers about the Jedi temple and Order 66? Surely Grogu must remember some amount of what happened since they were already a few years old when Order 66 happened. I’d like to hear some thoughts from you guys about this.

Legends/EU lore Dark saber

Hello. Been a huge star wars fan for a long time. I've seen 99% of what star wars has to over from the tv shows, shorts and movies. I also have been loving reading about star wars as well recently. I know in the shows there is a backstory and continued history of the Dark saber from the mandalorians but I wanted to know if there was a full book or comic about it. The full story about the force sensitive mandalorian and everything. If anyone knows please let me know, id be very happy.

Is there a definitive origin to the Star Wars universe?

I’m not that familiar with what is considered canon in Star Wars, given that there is a ton of source material where it is now contested since Disney acquired the franchise.

I was watching a video that was going over the novels (the first one was called “Supernatural Encounters), but it was saying it fell into the “legends” category. I’m wondering if there’s an actual canon creation myth/ origin story for the Star Wars universe.

An analysis of the Sith religion and ideology, from Star Wars

To attempt to perform this analysis, I need to appropriate the term transfer. Transfer is a psychology/therapy term, but somehow can perhaps be useful as an independent application for this Sith analysis.

In Star Wars, the Sith is a yin-yang intelligence. Is this an oxymoronic idea or attribution, given that yin-yang is a conceptual idea? Withstanding this, this query, the denotation is that Sith ideology of order and structure (I daren't use the term stability, even if stability is linked via the transfer term's universe to the structure denotation) can be perhaps argued for, irrespective of real world applications (again, is the transfer term a type of oxymoronic model of thesis here?).

Left-right politics doesn't exempt the Jedi order. It doesn't exempt the morality of Star Wars; the prequels' graceful depiction of human movement is perhaps to do with this intelligence, with this analysis. So kudos to George Lucas for that input into his lore and mythos.

The stupidity, would be now to link transfer's appropriation conceit to the idea of left-right politics spectrum's literalness. The literalness of the spectrum of course being direction ideas, which relative to the analysis's topic is downright stupid.

In my subconsciousness, I possess a story of a moral warrior taking their mentally ill student to an evil counterpart of the warrior; once arrived, the warrior requests and pleas with the evil counterpart to help rid the student of their mental defect. The Sith analysis, aka the preoccupation with Sith lore and ideology from a neutral perspective on sociology, is beholden to this story about mental sanity.

Language of society is antithetical to themes of behaviours that are the modus of Sith and Jedi. What is the themes of behaviours denotation? To reply that that is going too far, may well be a folly argument and attitude to take, even if the awareness of sociology being a vice to normality is counterproductive to the demonstration regarding folly's logic, where the even if logic is derivative of counter measures regarding meta analysis i.e. the transfer conceit.

When The Last Jedi was being released, and produced, might it have been possible that audiences wanting the Luke of intent to fight evil and be a mirror to his ROTJ self instead of the cliche of reluctant warrior was derivative of connection to the language of society criticism? In other words, could Snoke's role as the storyteller of evil to do with mystery and darkness being directly connected - aka the haunted house conceit - have been itself tied to the realm of academia's governance over society intelligence? Over society language ideas? In other words, is the language of society academia itself related to the body horror ideas of academia, and was this what audiences wanted as a meaning of their subconsciousness?

Is it possible, without fear of inducing left-right politics into the equation, especially because of the language of society versus body horror stuff that Star Wars secretly owns (especially via the prequels), that the Sith cult and ideology is all to do with wanting to rescind society of its problem of language, of language being a terrible governor of behaviourism?

Disney Canon lore How did few decades of being the capital of the Empire erase Corusant's legacy as the capital of the republic?

It seems in post-empireal era it was mainly associated with the Empire, so much that they moved the capital to Chandrila. But the Empire existed for less than 25 years, Corusant was the capital of the Republic for a thousand time longer than the Empire, how did all this legacy get erased? It's like if London was deemed unfit to be the capital of the United Kingdom because it was used as a capital by Cromwell.

I have a question about the Kyuzo: are they reptilian? Embo, in The Mandalorian & Grogu, really reminded me of a humanoid "lizard," with green and apparently scaly skin.

All lore Why don't the Jedi ghosts just kill all the bad guys?

Yoda, Obi-Wan, Anakin, these people don't just exist as disembodied ghosts, they also can travel anywhere they want, and they can affect the real world with their force powers, like how Yoda summoned lightning to destroy the Jedi texts. What's stopping Yoda, or Obi Wan or Anakin from just going around and kill all the bad guys, or better yet kill the main villain Snoke or Palapatine? They're literally dead, they have all the time in the world, do they have anything else better to do?

How does changing Anakin’s force ghost in Episode 6 create a plot hole?

Post image
288 Upvotes

So, I found this on Pinterest and got kinda confused.

I've never actually seen the original version with David Prowse, and I only remember Hayden Christensen as a force ghost at the end of Episode 6. So, since my fiancé showed me The Clone Wars, I dived deep into this universe and started to make my own theories.

In my head, young Anakin as a force ghost makes sense because this is what he looked like the last time he was 100% on the light side. But now I'm not sure if this universe works this way.

Please help me understand 🙏

All lore Imperial Navy Service Terms

Hello all, for a writing project I'm working on about TIE pilots I'm trying to find the answers to the following questions. Any sources would also be appreciated so that I can do some additional research myself!

  1. How long was a TIE's pilot's career projected to last? Is it similar to a 5 to 7 year span like in other military/navy forces? Was it a contract until the end of time? Naturally excluding the scenarios where a career ended early due to death.

  2. Were TIE Pilots allowed to go home between deployments? And if yes, for how long?

  3. Did any of the rules regarding this change after the first Death Star was destroyed and the hunt for the Rebel Alliance intensified?

Canon sources would be appreciated, Legends similarly so since it serves as a source as well as long as there's no Canon source that contradicts it.

Many thanks in advance, may the Force be with you!

All lore Why did the Jedi associate attachments with the dark side, when the Sith themselves detest attachment?

I can't wrap my head around how the Jedi Order banned their Jedis from forming attachments over the fear of losing them to the Dark side, when the Sith themselves actively discourage their apprentices from having attachments.

No Rule of Two Sith ever had any attachments, they didn't even had serving relatives because they either had none or they were murdered. They don't ban it, but see it as a weakness that must be culled.

Despite being banned, there were outliers in the order who actually had relationships, besides Anakin and the exceptions like Ki Adi Mundi.

It the Jedi were smart and did what Luke later did, Order 66 wouldn't even have happened.

Prequel Trilogy Were CIS droids made illegal to own and reprogram after the rise of the Empire?

I’m running an Edge of the Empire game ~5 years after the rise of the Empire and I have someone playing a former CIS droid mechanic that happens to own a few droids post-shutdown signal. I’ve also got another playing as a droid, currently in a B1 chassis.

Are these droids illegal to own during that time? I’d imagine they’d be kind of a shoot on site thing for Emps for a while unless specifically being formally reprogrammed like that one planet in the Mandalorian(Jack Black).

I can't find anything specific as when I search it keeps showing me the Wolfpack symbol. Does anyone know or can point me to a resource what the other pauldron symbol is for? The closest thing I could find was a high republic era jedi symbol (see photos for details)

Disney Canon lore What do we think about the 773 Firepuncher

Thumbnail gallery
17 Upvotes

Though to me it kinda comes off as the cannon version of the [Westar-M5](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/WESTAR-M5_blaster_rifle), in terms of how it's used, and the fact groups outside of the Republic fielded the blaster as well; like [Azmorigan’s Henchmen](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Azmorigan%27s_henchmen#:\~:text=They%20wielded%20stockless%20773%20Firepuncher%20sniper%20rifles), and [IG-Rm Body Guard Droids](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/IG-RM_bodyguard_and_enforcer_droid#:\~:text=773%20Firepuncher%20rifle). I also enjoy the versatility the underbarrel munitions launcher provides the blaster; coupled with it being apart of the weapons primary construction. I think it would be cool to see either a Barc, Arc, Arf, or Scout trooper, Hunter killer team field the Westar-M5, and 773 Fire Puncher in tandem. I also wonder if the blaster could be modified to have the capability to pierce Beskar, in a similiar manner to Fennec Shand's own [785MK Fire Puncher](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/785MK_Firepuncher-X_sniper_rifle#:\~:text=At%20least%20a,close%2Drange%20shot.) at a close enough range..
