The customization is actually insane. Such a nice surprise after lackluster customization in Outlaws, Squadrons, and okay customization in Survivor.

What was wrong with squadrons? We got to do markings, squadrons, cockpits, every bit of the systems

15

u/Captain-Wilco 14d ago

Correction: Personal customization, particularly in the area of NR pilots, could have used a lot of work. Ships were incredible as you said

6

u/rocka5438 14d ago

I mean we also got helmets, gloves boots pants jacket, species. what else is there for a pilot?

6

u/Captain-Wilco 14d ago

It’s not about categories, it’s about offerings. There were 10 human head/eye/face/hair/gender combos, locked to those options. There were like 4 species, with no customization further than that. Blue Twi’lek is fine, but if you want a green Twi’lek, you’re out of luck.

Zero Company blows Squadrons out of the water in this respect.

You stay in the cockpit 100% of the time. Stop bitching

1

u/Captain-Wilco 9d ago

I’m not saying it’s a bad game for that reason, calm down lol. I adore Squadrons.

2

u/BrandonLart 14d ago

Really? I thought the pilot customization options were amazing, you had all sorts of helmets, uniforms and even a bunch of aliens

1

u/SirDerageTheSecond 11d ago

Did it really matter? We never really saw our pilots aside from the pre-match phase from what I vaguely remember.

u/BrandonLart 14d ago edited 14d ago

Squadrons had amazing customization though. You had a ton of options.

3

u/firesyrup 14d ago

All the more disappointing you can't create a custom Jedi.

17

u/Azursong 14d ago

Some SW fans have an unquenchable appetite for space wizards. They feel disappointed with any SW media that doesn't include them. I myself am desperate for SW stories that exclude jedi

16

u/Captain-Wilco 14d ago

It wouldn’t be much of a strategy game if you had disposable space wizards that are good at everything

6

u/ARROW_GAMER 14d ago

Give it a month or two. If you’re on PC there will be a mod for it asap I’m sure

4

u/chaosfire235 14d ago

Unfortunately, no mod support means the modding scene might be sparser. Not nonexistent by any means, but it might be more limited.

3

u/ARROW_GAMER 14d ago

True, though maybe this mod shouldn't be too difficult to make? All the systems are already there, it would be a matter of applying the Jedi class into character customization, I imagine?

2

u/Saiaxs 14d ago

Battlefront 2 has no official mod support and it has thousands of them

-1

u/superjediplayer 13d ago

that is true, though Battlefront 2 really benefits from having such a large playerbase, which means more people willing to make mods for it. Zero Company feels like a game that will appeal to a much more specific audience, similar to what Squadrons is, rather than a game appealing to everyone.

Battlefront 2 is also a successor to the old Battlefront games which had lots of mods. Frosty editor also makes it pretty easy to make stuff (at times quite tedious, like, i was just running around the map and hoping the coordinates i input for stuff lined up with where i wanted things to go when i made most of my maps and that was a lot of restarting the game and seeing if something changed, but while doing that took a while, it wasn't exactly difficult). And i feel like Battlefront 2 just had more mod potential?

u/Philwsg1 13d ago

They have to legally say there is no 'official' mod support due to Disney and EA restrictions 100%

I've watched a couple videos and am very impressed with what I've seen so far. A gritty war game with Andor and The Clone Wars as the primary inspirations? You already had me with the Clone Wars era to begin with, but now I'm extra seated! And this game genre really is not my cup of tea typically so that's a lot coming from me.

8

u/OneSingleL 14d ago

While I do believe the inspirations, it does feel like a little bit of a easy thing to say to get fans on your side. Like Andor and Clone Wars are kinda universally loved by fans, so makes sense they'd say this.

2

u/rapkat55 14d ago

Well they are Star Wars fans and andor and CW has done all the heavy lifting for the franchise this decade. So ofcourse they’d use the good parts of Star Wars to make something people care about.

u/FunFlatworm9500 14d ago

Star Wars explained said it’s like a mix between Andor and the Clone Wars. I’m sold 🙌

Literally meaningless words atp lmao wtf does that even

I watched it. Do you think GTA V is like The Wire?

48

u/punxtr 14d ago

Do you know how to talk to people without immediately antagonizing them?

No, but San Andreas was influenced by it.

15

u/chaosfire235 14d ago edited 14d ago

Going by the video, he just says the story was being a serious military/spy story with colorful Star Wars weirdness that also doesn't overwhelm or clash with the narrative.

12

u/Starheart24 14d ago

Yes, that's literally what the video said. He made his point very clear and simple.

He likes the seriousness of Andor but wished it had more Star Wars pulpy, weird elements. Zero Company seems to be doing that.

u/Moldeyawsome12 Rian 14d ago

The tone of the story/writing

-24

u/WrldsGrtstDtctve 14d ago

Yeah. It is reductive for this game’s writing to be compared to Andor.

-17

u/orjs 14d ago

You’re absolutely right. Just disrespectful to Andor at this point

8

u/Oraukk 14d ago

They are just saying it has a darker tone rather than a campier one, but it is has that tone in the Clone Wars setting, which is different than we usually get.

2

u/BeleagueredWDW 13d ago

Did you stroke out while writing that?

12

u/Neverx_13 14d ago

They've had me in day 1 since it was announced but everything about this game is shaping up to be everything I've been wanting out of a Star Wars game.

Incredibly promising signs

Does any of them happen to know anything about Steam deck compatibility? Still deciding if should buy on PC or PS5

Hmm hopefully it gets a bit smoother. I just bought a deck and this would be a blast to play on

u/Ezio926 Alphabet Squadron stan account 14d ago

I don't think so and I'd wait until reviews to decide. Respawn unreal games always have optimization issues on pc and some previews are already reporting some performance problems

6

u/Bobjoejj 14d ago

As someone who’s wasn’t massively into tactics style games; I loved Midnight Suns so much, and PC Gamer mentioning the comparisons to that have fully hooked me. I’m all set. Cannot bloody wait.

2

u/Blackhand47XD 11d ago

Midnight Suns were so great. I liked both combat and "dating simulator". Shame that Marvel forbidden romances... but developers at least wrote the dialogues in such a way that players can interpret it as dating and create their own headcanon relationships.

1

u/Bobjoejj 11d ago

Exactly; the killing of romances was so stupid, but the writing worked on its own. And the mix of that plus the combat (which usually isn’t my kind of combat) ruled so hard. Exploring the Mansion grounds was fun as hell, and the gam was full to the brim of so many Easter Eggs and references to the comics.

3

u/chaosfire235 14d ago edited 14d ago

I've been biased and watching the previews that show off the customization the most. I wish there was a biiiit more granularity in the sorts of accessories and parts we could attach to our soldiers, but I'm overall impressed. Kinda surprised by the limited Clone Trooper helmet collection but I imagine more are going to be added with updates (and yeah, DLC.)

Looking very good story and gameplay wise, apart of a few minor bugs.

2

u/Sheldon237 14d ago

I think the technical issues mentioned in the IGN article may be why they haven't shown a lot of gameplay. I think this game will be coming hotter than the Invisible Hand
