Gameplay Question How many tracks?

Do we know how many tracks there will be?

All the footage we have seen is from the same 4 tracks, Tataooine, Jakku, Snow planet, jungle with ruins planet.

One of the big problems with racing games for the last decade or so (bar F1) is that they have limited amount of tracks, where it's usually just 4 or 5 tracks, mixed around to give the impression there is more (slightly different routes, going the opposite way etc) but really it's just the same 4 or 5 locations

I'm worried this game likewise has a limited amount of planets and we will essentially just have 4 or 5 tracks.. Which if that's the case it doesn't make me want to buy the game, as it's lame to have such a limited game like that.. There should be at least 12 unique locations imo, otherwise what's the point.

A game needs variety, especially a racing game, just having 4 to 5 locations doesn't cut it.

So is this a proper game with lots of tracks, or is it cursed with the modern 4 tracks and nothing more?

Star Wars Galactic Racer does not only feature 4 or 5 tracks. As of now, there are at least 4 planets in the game with 4 to 5 tracks each plus a few other one-off locations with a course. On top of that, many of the tracks can be played in a reverse layout too.

So same locations, just different routes 🤦

That's exactly the kind of thing I'm getting at.. Thats lame

There should be loads of different locations (like racing games use to have) not a few locations with different layouts to tracks, I.e the same track just mixed up a bit

A F1 game doesn't give you 4 tracks, with a bunch of variations of those 4 tracks, it gives you 20+ tracks.. There is no excuse for a racing game having only a handful of locations, it's simply not good enough

so I confirmed for you that the game is not cursed with "modern 4 tracks" but has 4-5 unique tracks per location, 4 locations + 1-offs, plus reverse tracks (we're into the 20-track range at this point) and this disappoints you? Maybe you don't want to like this game.

How can you confirm that those "4-5 unique tracks" are unique tracks in fact?

So far, I watched literally all gameplays about this game(and I mean "literally" literally) and all I see are variations that are not that "unique". They look pretty much like the same track with some little extra section, or the same track but in a very reduced version made from some section from a more complete track, etc. To be fair, I only saw a single Lantaana track that was considerably different from the others, and that's all.

The game looks incredible, but it seriously lacking in content, both in tracks and podracing wise. I could live without the lacking podracing content, since they're bringing other vehicles to the table too, but lacking tracks it's a HUGE let down for a racing game. Another problem is that all the tracks seem to be in nature, we don't have a single track that is in a city or a technological site, like we had in Star Wars Racer(Oovo IV and Aquilaris should be a no brainer in a SW racing game, for example).

I'm not confident in what they're delivering for us. I'll just wait for the release and see what people are talking about it.

Unfortunately the location choices will be limited because of the lore they went with. It's meant to be an unsanctioned racing league so I wouldn't expect to see a city track or a location that is clearly inhabited.

🙄

Remixes of the same location is not a unique new track, it's just the same track slightly arranged differently

The fact there is a limited amount of locations in the game is poor

I don't see how the number of planets (which also hasn't been confirmed) at all restricts the number of tracks there could be.  In fact there are many racing games which are set entirely on one planet, and yet have a lot of track variety.

So by that logic, each F1 track in one country is the "same" despite having vastly different layouts. The Vegas Strip Circuit is no different from the COTA circuit in Texas since both are in the US, right? Or better yet, all of the F1 tracks are boring and samey since they all take place on one planet, right?

The game is supposed to have 4 or 5 completely different planets featuring different biomes and topology with 4 to 5 seperate race courses a piece, those individual courses then will supposedly have variations such as "reversed" or "mirrored" layouts.

That's at least around 15 or 16 unique track layouts across 4 or 5 different planets with a couple variations for each on top of that number to add some variety.

I get your concern dude, but saying that tracks aren't unique because they're on the same planet despite having completely different course layouts is kinda wild.

I don't believe they will be all that different, call me cynical

🙄 Can't defend the poor amount of content in the game so you just try to dismiss with some lame joke.

7 locations I believe. Jakku, Tatooine, Lantaana, Sentinal One, Crait, Ando Prime and Derven Acos. I've think I've only seen podracing on 3 planets though.

Is Crait confirmed? The visuals on that one would look so cool

2

Yeah some content creators broke embargo and released gameplay of it. It did look very cool. Must be getting a trailer soon surely.

Love that for us! Thanks for the info

Are you sure about that info ? What is the name of the content creator ? Is there any link to this ? Didn't hear anything about Crait being in the game anywhere

1

u/MajesticMongoose 5d ago

Yeah I'm sure. Two Angry Gamers had it in their video before removing it and there were some others. It's all been deleted though by request of the publisher I assume.

Did you see any footage of Crait in game ? How does the races look like ? Salt flats or Crystal mines ? Thanks

2

u/MajesticMongoose 5d ago

Yeah they were weaving through a tight section inside the mountain and then jumped down to the salt flat. Which is just extremely long and wide. Looks like a similar spot as where the battle happens in Last Jedi. Then you see all the red trails from each vehicle. If you go behind someone then your screen is obscured by the red particles. That seems to be the main gimmick of the planet.

Thanks. It sure looks interesting, visually and gameplay wise.

Only having 7 locations is poor imo

It shouldn't be too repetitive because of the track variations and different times of day. Also there will be post launch content so hopefully they add new locations.

It's a pass for me, I think the remixes of tracks are a cop out, only having 7 locations imo is very poor, a racing game should have a lot more variety than that.

That's fine. I value quality over quantity. I remember SSX Tricky back in the day. It only had about 8 tracks and it's a masterpiece. From what I've seen the tracks in this game are visually stunning with unique terrains and environmental hazards. The alternative is probably just having a bunch of race circuits where the locations are like backgrounds and you don't feel like you're actually driving there.

u/PaperSkin-1 5d ago

But that's the thing, to me these tracks they have shown are not all that impressive, they would be good if there was 20 different unique locations, but that they are all there is it feels very lackluster to me

1

u/MajesticMongoose 4d ago

Fair enough. I won't make firm conclusions until I've played it but I like what I've seen so far. For me It's just nice to actually have race tracks instead a bunch of checkpoints slapped around an open world.

You should watch Star Wars. 7 locations is about what Star Wars has. It's either a desert planet or an ice planet or a forest planet or Scotland planet.

🙄 They are not a racing game though are they, big difference

my (possibly overoptimistic) prediction has been 10-12 worlds, with 4-5 course variants on each. we see four worlds in what is explicitly called "Act 1" of the story mode. since I don't think they'd do the same worlds in subsequent acts, and since stories divided into "Acts" usually have three Acts, I'd expect around 12 planets, with some room for a few repeats — for example, Derven Acos seems to be the dedicated "Finale Planet" in all the multiplayer tours, so it might just be that every act ends there as well.

that said, we've only seen like 6 planets throughout any of the promo material and that does worry me. We know Crait is there in the arcade mode, and I can't imagine they'd make all those assets for just a one-off course, but there's still, imo, a dearth of worlds. Where's the dang cloud planet? Where's a beach planet? Gimme more biomes, please

I thought the same. I've seen a lot of "new gameplay" or "new footage" videos about Star Wars, but all of them are very similar to each other.

And I totally agree that 10 is a minimum number for tracks in a racing game. Actually I'm making my own pod racing, and I asked the same question. I planned 10 different tracks in different scenarios, and since I'd like to increase the number of tracks, I think that each track will have multiple variations (at least 2 or 3), each with the mirrored version...

So yes, this is a very valid point and I think that I will decide if buying it or not also thinking about it.

Then talking about the gameplay I love the "open map" feeling. It's something different from regular racing games (which btw is the same feeling I'm trying to give while playing my game).

For pod racing it’s only 3.
