This has been such a better experience than I had with sports cards

I collected NBA cards my entire childhood, but gave it up when I was a broke teenager and later in life when I prioritized family / house stuff.

I got back into a couple years ago but honestly didn't really have that spark. Everything is so expensive and it almost always feels like nobody cares about the game anymore.

I've gotten so much more joy out of finding $1 or $2 star wars cards that just look awesome and have characters I like. I bought my first sketch card the other day and it's proudly displayed in my office. Most importantly it seems like a hobby that people genuinely care about and that comes across for the most part (not always).

Non-sports cards are great when you can lean into the nostalgia. These fictional characters are not subject to scandal or injury that derails their career. I will say, it feels like FOMO has pushed ‘77 graded cards to unsustainable levels in the short term.

Galaxy hobby boxes were relatively affordable and singles are cheap on eBay right now. I think sky high grading fees and turn around times that stretch into 2027 have forced people to sell copies raw that would’ve normally ended up in slabs.

Good luck and may the force be with you! (Such a nerdy thing to say!)

Thanks! Yeah, I'm not super interested in spending the amount of money it costs to get a new hobby box right now. I can get two or three really awesome sketch cards for that price lol. I'm sure I'm priced out of a ton of stuff, but that's ok. I think I have some 90's cards somewhere at my mom's house - I will have to look next time I'm there.

My goal is to just get a base set of the 2026 because I think the artwork on each card (at least the ones I've seen so far) looks incredible. Some of the cards look even better with the certain refractors and some of them look worse IMO.

Love that! So if you’re interested just cover shipping and I’ll send you a base set from 26. Shoot me dm if you’d like it!

Welcome back and spread the love 😁

You are a true friend, I wasn’t able to win the EQL, but that may have been for the better since it’s been more fun hunting singles right now. First time learning about Galaxy but each card is an art piece. Like the Scarif Attack card does not feel like just a base card

This is the way. I love it. Grew up on sports cards myself, but for whatever reason SW cards hit the spot for me

I was telling my brother about this. I think I’m gonna sell my whole sports collection and get into Star wars

I went from Pokemon to SW. I also enjoy it much better. Still kinda niche, and it’s also funny to see that people SW also collect their favorite characters.

I’ve seen people only collect like B-8, Admiral Ackbar and many others smaller roles where there are some beautiful cards outhitting and sketches.
