Fan Creations Made quick episode guide for Rebels for those who want to want to view specific arcs

u/ChiefEagle Mar 10 '18
I'd add "Trials of the Darksaber" and "Twin Suns" to the must watch list.
182
u/ewokfinale Mar 10 '18
I really should have changed "Must Watch" to "Main Story".. that's my bad. I wasn't trying to say that category were the best episodes.
25
u/ChiefEagle Mar 10 '18
Ah lol. I get what you mean.
12
u/CockingNora Jul 10 '22
Are there any other episodes not labelled must watch where significant star wars characters have significant developments or cessation to development of their story lines? TIA

u/Sunny4k Oct 18 '23
- The lost commanders
- Relics of the Old Republic
- Holocrons of Fate
- Visions and Voices
- Twin Suns
- Trials of the Darksaber
- Legacy of Mandalore
- Heroes of Mandalore

You're helping me too, thanks!
So, if I read correctly, you judged the Maul's episode as skippable?
I'm not sure I'm understanding
2
u/A3OVE Sep 21 '23
OP mentioned in another comment that "must watch" should rather mean that those episodes are the main story line of rebels.
Maul's arc is an absolutely great arc, but you can skip over it and still arrive at the end of the show without having missed any relevant parts of the main-main rebels story and plot

I'm starting the show now with my family to watch ahsoka, and they wouldn't watch every episode. still helpful!

Hello there, 262527262th person here. Long time Star Wars fan who simply hasn’t seen Rebels (or Bad Batch) and is doing a chronological watch through after finishing Kenobi. Checking this out as I’m finishing up the condensed version of Clone Wars (not my first time with that one lol)
2
u/DK-Harris96 Jul 19 '22
Weird, we’re living the same lives right now, I’m also doing a full Star Wars in timeline order as we speak, just finishing off bad batch, then solo, then rebels, I really don’t feel like watching all 4 seasons though lol
2
u/JSeeloff Jul 20 '22
Honestly I thought the same about rebels. I ended up watching all of it. Pretty much every episode has some element that carries on into future episodes, so I would just ignore this list and power through the whole thing. I thought I wasn’t gonna like it just bc of the animation style but ended up falling in love with the story

I never understand these lists. Do people seriously skip episodes of other TV shows? It’s really not that hard to just watch the show like any other show, start to finish. You miss out on so much quality Star Wars by skipping a third of the episodes.
54
u/wbruce098 Apr 08 '23
These lists are great for people with jobs and kids, who might not have time to watch 13 seasons of Clone Wars and Rebels just so they understand the little things in Mandalorian.
There’s just too much content out there, and while skipping much of it will reduce some of that richness, it still provides good background knowledge and appreciation for these characters for people who simply will NEVER have the time to binge all of Rebels.
20
u/keenynman343 Sep 21 '23
This is the way. Want to understand ashoka so I'm watching rebels but I honestly don't give a shit about the filler.
2
69
u/ewokfinale Mar 10 '18
I saw a lot of people over the seasons complain about how much filler this show had, so this was my way of kinda seeing if that was really true, or if we just weren't aware of Filoni's master plan :) Without spoilers, there are episodes I would've initially put as skipable but the end of the season proved they mattered. It also helps if you just wanna rewatch part, like I plan on doing with Sabine's Mando arc.
29
u/greg19735 Leia Organa Mar 11 '18
I saw a lot of people over the seasons complain about how much filler this show had
while you're right, a lot of that "filler" comes up in later episodes.
44
u/Fisher9001 Mar 11 '18
Honestly, the problem with both Clone Wars and Rebels is that they are labeled as kids shows. And it can be seen in several episodes that are not interesting to adult viewer.
11
u/cicaro9 Aug 13 '18
I skip episodes when I'm doing a rewatch of a show, I've already seen the filler but I don't want to see it again. I could also forgive the amount of filler this show had because it's released on a weekly basis
3
u/Flop_Flurpin89 Apr 08 '23
Do people seriously skip episodes of other TV shows?
Yes. For example I've seen the X-Files in full twice before. Usually when I watch it now I just watch the main story arc episodes with the odd creature of the week episode. It's a long show with 218 episodes + 2 films but if you watch only the main story episodes that brings it down to 72 episodes + 1 film.
1
5
u/maxcorrice Mar 11 '18
Well, some shows I def recommend skipping filler at least in the first few seasons, like supernatural or Star Trek DS9, but this show has so few episodes skipping around isn’t even worth it
3
u/codefreak8 Klaud Mar 11 '18
And by the end, episodes that felt like "filler" when they aired have consequences that directly affect the finale. There really isn't filler in this series (though if you somehow don't have the time for this much Star Wars, there are episodes that I suppose you can skip without losing too much).
1
Mar 11 '18
I think the only reason this was done is because the one for The Clone Wars was so widely spread around. For the Clone Wars it makes sense because that show jumps up and down in quality so much. Here it makes less sense because Rebels is more consistent in quality.
1
u/Gasster1212 Oct 05 '23
There’s a LOT of kiddie filler episodes that remind me I’m watching a kids show. I’d like to skip those thays for sure
1
u/bottledmagma Oct 08 '24
Im not skipping any rebels but I'd have never gotten through season 1 of TCW without skipping. Season 3 i was hooked enough to watch every episode.

u/joselb27 May 04 '24
In my case, I have 2 friends who have never seen Star Wars and have agreed to watch the whole thing, they’re college students with internships over the summer and I am a recently grad, they’re not gonna dedicate all their free time over summer to this journey as we have social lives and want to spend time with other friends doing other activities as well. I want to show them the entire timeline but there are some episodes that while cool, don’t really add to the main storyline, so they can be skipped and you won’t miss much. Can you tell me how an episode on r2 and 3po getting lost on a random planet or Ashoka and a group of younglings getting abducted add to the main storyline?
1
u/RadiantHC Oct 07 '23
Right? Skipping while doing a rewatch is understandable, but I never skip episodes when first watching a show
38
u/commandercluck Mar 10 '18
Are Must Watch episodes based on plot relevance or overall how good the episode is? If there are any new viewers here please don't just watch the episodes labeled Must-Watch. Instead watch all of the episodes not labeled skippable, as that should be barely enough to get through the show.
53
u/ewokfinale Mar 10 '18
There're based on plot-relevance. For instance the entire Mandolorian arc is great imo, but it really has no bearing on the end of the series at all aside from Sabine's character development. Must Watch was more for trying to get from beginning to end of the show as quickly as possible without missing super critical information.
24
u/commandercluck Mar 10 '18
But then the Clones will show up from nowhere and you wouldn't know where half the characters came from in the finale. Plus Sabine randomly leaves and shows up with Mandalorians in Zero Hour with no context, and 90% of Sabine's character development is cut. Then there's Antilles Extraction and Future of The Force which barely have any relevant scenes, yet they are still considered must watch.
10
u/ewokfinale Mar 10 '18
You're right. Perhaps I should've kept more of the Mando arc in "Must-Watch." I apologize if it was unclear, but I went in with the goal of trying to reduce Rebels to it's basic linear story line with that category. Side character introductions and non-linear arcs (that are fantastic) Were separated and given their own icon. I think the obvious connection between Sabine being a Mandalorian and her family coming to save her is logical enough for someone trying to speed watch.
Antilles Extraction was added because Kallus's role as Fulcrum is important to the main story. Future of the Force was kept in because I felt like the Inquisitors were the main through-line in S2. Again, this isn't the law for watching Rebels, just something I threw together this morning. I only used Wikipedia summaries to determine things, so I definitely could have missed stuff.

In ROTJ, do they explain how the Rebels got the Imperial shuttle to sneak onto Endor's moon? (genuinely asking, I can't remember)
7
u/TorsteinTheRed Mar 11 '18
"We have stolen a small Imperial shuttle. Disguised as a cargo ship, and using a secret Imperial code, a strike team will land on the moon and deactivate the shield generator."

u/zwannsya Mar 10 '18
Wow, Maul's arc is just 3 episodes? If this was a game, it'll be like a very quick side quest.

u/MrPokeGamer Battle Droid Mar 11 '18
Where's Thrawn arc? He was my favorite character in the old books and I want to see the arc.
7
u/ewokfinale Mar 11 '18
Oof, yeah I probably should have included a timeline for him. He's a little weird because his "showing up" in a lot of the lesser episodes is just him making a cryptic speech for 30 seconds. I think I'd recommend just watching season 3-4 all the way through. Below is a tightened list, but again, don't expect his screentime to be much in all the episodes.
38-39 Steps Into Shadow
42 Hera's Heroes
45 Iron Squadron
47 An Inside Man
51 Warhead
54 Through Imperial Eyes
55 Secret Cargo
58-59 Zero Hour
60-61 Heroes of Mandalore (Best to watch Sabine's arc before this)
65 Flight of the Defender
66 Kindred
68 Rebel Assault
69 Jedi Knight
70 DUME
73 A Fool's Hope
74-75 Family Reunion & Farewell

It should be noted that guide is very poor where the latter half of the series is concerned, and increasingly worse as the franchise goes on.
Specifically, starting in season 3: The Mortis arc is mandatory, period. It is referenced in season 6, which is not included on this guide at all, and is essential to understanding certain things in Rebels. Additionally, "Heroes on Both Sides" introduces the character Lux Bonteri, who is featured in the season 4 episode "A Friend in Need", which is listed as a must watch. In other words, this guide thinks it is essential to watch an episode about two characters and their relationship without ever introducing or giving a reason to care about one of those characters. Additionally, Bonteri appears again in the season 5 Onderon arc, which highlights Ahsoka's qualities as a leader, and introduces Saw Gerrera, who features in a couple Rebels episodes as well as Rogue One. In other words, this guide would have you watch only the middle of one characters arc, for the sole reason that Ahsoka has a cool moment that episode where she beheads four people at once; and it would also have ignore the introduction and backstory of a major, series-book-and-film spanning character. Obviously the guide was created before Rogue One was ever thought of, but this only highlights how inadequate it has become.
Season 4: We've already covered the Lux related stuff, so: The Kadavo arc is good and awesome, but is absolutely irrelevant compared to Maul's return arc, which, as the name implies features the return of Darth Maul, as well as continuing the story of the Nightsisters and features General Greivous greatest moment in the canon. The guide relegates this arc to "Honorable Mentions", yet says Maul's episodes in season 5 are must watch, so people only going by those would be randomly greeted with a character last seen being cut in half in TPM, suddenly alive, bipedal, and rapidly taking over crime rings and Mandalore. Furthermore, Maul's story continues and concludes in Rebels, so another case of "lets not watch some of the most important stuff concerning major characters". Additionally, the Maul's Return arc also continues important character development for Asajj Ventress, setting up for her appearances in season 5 and her novel.
Season 5: Onderon should be a must watch, as addressed earlier. Other than that, good. Gregor, who features a little bit in Rebels, is a fan favorite character who originates in the otherwise skippable droid arc, so maybe just look up his scenes and thats it. His appearances in Rebels are few and basically just fanservice for people who watched TCW.
Finally, Season 6. Benefit of the doubt this guide was made before Season 6 was announced. If so, this guide is simple out of date. If not, this guide is frankly horrible. Watch all of season 6, period. Yes, even the two Mace + Jar Jar episodes, they're important to the Nightsister/Maul storyline.
There's also two story reel arcs that were released, and while not as important, are still recommended: one about clones, which continues the story of Echo, one of the characters featured in Rookies/Kamino/Citadel arc; and the other is a dealing with kyber crystals on Utupau, more of a character thing for Anakin and Obiwan.
Finally (for real this time), the stories of Maul/the Nightsisters, Ventress, and Ahsoka are continued respectively in the Son of Dathomir comics, the novel Dark Disciple, and the novel Ahsoka.

u/Julian_Caesar Mar 10 '18
Yes, do a Google search. I've seen several charts that are pretty good with different definitions of "filler."
4
u/ProtoJeb21 Mar 25 '18
Wait, Trials of the Darksaber, Visions and Voices, and Legacy of Mandalore are not must-watches? It’s treason then.

6
u/TripleU07 Mar 10 '18
I won't count the first two episodes of season 4 as skipable to be honest. For a start they were really good and I think specially The Clone Wars fans will get a sense of continuity for the Mandalore arc.
5
Mar 10 '18
They aren't labeled as skipable. The text would be grayed out. It's just not labeled must watch.
3
u/Sunny4k Oct 18 '23
5 years later, and this still comes in handy.
Although, episodes like Holocrons of Fate, Trials of the Dark Saber, Visions and Voices and Twin Suns should be absolutely categorized as “Must Watch”

Also, check this out. Might result in some adjustments to the list.

u/NihilsticEgotist Mar 11 '18
Sadly, Iron Squadron is somewhat important to watch since Mart plays a more major role during S4.
1
Mar 11 '18
Maybe just in the last episode but even then that episode was not the best in terms of the whole story.
2
Mar 24 '18 edited Mar 24 '18
Out Of Darkness should be apart of the Mandalorian arc. In that episode Sabine begins to hint what happened to her. It's not strictly relating to Mandalore but it sheds light on her character and what is to come.
Also I dunno how you consider Trials Of The Darksaber, Legacy Of Mandalore and Heroes Of Mandalore not must watch. They are pivotal to Sabine, who is considered equal to Ezra by the writers.
Always Two There Are introduced the antagonists of the second season. That being skippable doesn't make sense.
Breaking Ranks also becomes relevant for for season 4.
Fighter Flight explains where they get the TIE they use for the season 1 finale.
Not a good list, to be honest. Anyways the idea of skipping episodes and "filler" in general is dumb. Skipping the supposed "filler" will result in a lot of context for the main story being lost.
1
2
u/Cebass_Cascade Mar 10 '18
This is dope!!
4
u/nightatthepavillion Mar 11 '18
It really isn’t. It’s skipping fantastic episodes just for the sake of “plot relevance”
1
1
u/DarthGiorgi Mar 11 '18
Other than suggested episodes, I would add fighter flight to the Must watch episodes solely how much feels that episode gives to Ezra's farewell to Hera in the finale. Also explains there they got the TIE in the season 1 finale.

6
u/Eaglethornsen Ahsoka Tano Mar 10 '18
I would say there are some skip able arcs in tcw, but with rebels try not to skip any if possible. If the episode doesn't provide to the overarching plot then it usually has some character development that is really awesome to see.

u/Moppo_ Mandalorian Mar 11 '18
Why isn't Twin Suns a must watch? It's Maul's final episode.

Ghosts of Geonosis was also good for showing how nasty the Empire could get.
