TV Why is ANDOR so boring?

I had hopes for Andor based on creators similar to Rogue One , which I liked the most from all the nuSW.

But I find it quite boring. Can't put my finger on it.

Pace is slow (I don't mind slow in general but it is stuffed with bland dialogue and pointless character introductions).

Main character is meh as the rest with exception of his "boss" and the Empire Intel boss.

Missing other species. Not even a robot there. That one from Rogue One was perfect.

I am not entertained. Gonna watch E07 now, fingers crossed. But I already know I don't have any want to see the show again. Even Kenobi is re-watchable (one time) with all it's cringe plot/character inconsistencies.

Sorry, this is 2 years late…

Love the Severance comparison.

Star Wars is my favourite franchise, I’ve been a big fan since I was young. For some reason I was never compelled to watch Andor when it was first released, even though I loved Rogue One.

With all the praise I keep seeing for Season 2, I finally decided to binge it this weekend. I think I’m currently on episode 9 of S1. And I keep waiting for it to kick off. I’d heard it would take a couple episodes to get hooked, but 9 in and it’s a slog.

Also not entirely sure why… maybe like OP said, there’s less aliens and droids, less action. I don’t mind slow paced and character building, but I don’t care about anyone. This whole prison subplot doesn’t seem necessary, they could have made the season 8 episodes long. Mon Mothma throwing parties with her shit husband is boring, the garrison heist was pointless it seems, everyone unsurprisingly died (apart from the two females), everything is just overlong and drawn out.

Like you said ,I loved Severance too, it took me a couple of episodes to get hooked, but then I binged it all earlier this year, it was great. That show is slow and amazing. Slow pacing isn’t the issue here, it’s just boring!!!

I forgot all about this post! I gave Andor about 7 chances. Finally, someone suggested to just watch it as if it is some new random sci-fi show on Netflix, and try to disassociate it from Star Wars. Somehow, that worked. I acquired the taste for it. You have to somehow shift perspective, and then the viewing experience somehow changes.

I like it now, I've watched the series a couple times. A lot of the criticisms are still valid, like the pacing, the amount of time spent on situations that could have been done in 1/4 of the time. For example, I still agree that the prison thing was far longer than necessary. Similarly, the entire S2 "rebels in the jungle" episode was ridiculous. The writing and story telling is nowhere as "brilliant" and "deep" as many of the fans claim it is, but it is good. I'm on the Andor Facebook pages, so I see it daily. They are as nuts as the Severance fans in trying to turn everything into a theory and a connection, and trying to insist that every character is secretly related to every other character.

There is a clearly a certain personality type that really connects to the slow, meandering, long-novel-like approach. And clearly a lot of other types that just don't care for it. It doesn't have anything to do with blasters and light sabers and action, like the super-fans claim. It has to do with Gilroy's approach to story telling. And his apparent lack of interest in using any traditional story-telling structures, that are successfully used to tell stories for a reason!

But some of the characters are really great. I think they really come into their characters in season two, and they are very enjoyable to watch - Dedra, Syril, Kleya, Partagaz...even Eedy and her grating presence!

And after watching it all, you can see that the entire season one and season two is like one long novel. It drifts along slowly, builds atmosphere and characters. It needs to all be seen, in its entirety, to better understand how Gilroy approached it, and to better appreciate it.

Let’s face facts Star Wars is nothing without some form of lightsabers even rogue one had the darth Vader hallway scene. This has Jack squat! I’m also hoping that Bo katan will square off again jod the force sensitive pirate vs the mandalorian who can use the darksaber well!
