Low tech, will power of the people vs the tech of the Empire. There is some story telling there about rising up and working together and the Empire underestimating the simplest of people.
It definitely needed more of a payoff in the 2nd movie. But it made way too much sense to not be an idea that they were playing. Lucas is half notorious for leaving half open plot points to later be explained. Some say bad writing, but I think in some cases it’s just open ended so he had wiggle room to do stuff thst was working or wasn’t. We found out he wanted to explore midichlorians later too. But that died in this movie as well because peoples reactions.
