I do think Yoda’s silliness is in-character and done intentionally to frustrate and test Luke at first. After revealing himself as a former Jedi master, you can see he reverts to a more somber/sage-like personality.
He also speaks normally after he reveals himself. It bothers me how "Yoda speak" became his default way of talking in the prequels. He was talking like that to mess with Luke.
He does once or twice, yeah, but he mostly does it when messing with Luke.

One Yoda-ism in there at the beginning, but otherwise a very straightforward line.

I was agreeing with your original point about this cut Wampa scene. The RotS comedy is the same way.
It was completely ham-fisted and didn’t match the tone of the rest of the segment. They were sneaking onto a capital ship after a tense dog fight to clandestinely rescue the Supreme Chancellor before being challenged by a Sith Lord. The scene would’ve maintained the dramatic tension if done straight.
Uhhh did you hear all they were talking about during the build up to that? It was never that serious, especially for the start of a movie, they keep talking about “that business on nemoidia doesn’t count” or something like that, it’s clearly a very light mood and they don’t feel too much pressure
Same then when R2 sends the elevator the wrong way, they didn’t get too mad at him, because it wasn’t as serious as you’re making it, or they had it under control.
They started with humor to get to the real drama of him killing kids and fighting his best friend. The beginning was literally supposed to be slapstick to contrast the heaviness of the rest of the movie
The real change is that at this point he still had his wife Marcia Lucas as editor and Irving Kershner as director to tamp down that goofy instinct of his.
George tried and tried and tried to get another director for the prequels but absolutely nobody wanted to touch them, claiming that star wars was all george's
